동양문학의 가장 오래된 유산인 『시경』(詩經)의 서문에 “시언지”(詩言志)라는 문구가 있다. 이 말은 마음속에 움직이는 바가 곧 뜻이 되고 그것이 마침내 그대로 머물러 있지 못히고 절실한 언어로 다듬어져 밖으로 나올 때 그것이 바로 시가 된다(이기석 · 한백우, 1984, p.14)는 설명이다. Brenner가 밝힌 역동정신의학의 개념에 따르면 동적이면서도 역동적인 마음의 양상을 보여주는 것이라 하는데( 1973, p.31), 그 개념을 여기에 적용해 보면, 시란 역동적인 마음의 흐름이 언어로 다듬어져 시가 된다고 말할 수도 있다. Spender라는 시인의 시작과정을 살펴 봐도 이런 설명을 충분히 이해할 수 있다. 그는 “아직 의미를 지니고 있지는 않지만 어떤 격정의 소리가 마음에 흐르는 것을 느낄 수 있는데 이러한 최초의 상념 이 달음박질과 땀과 고통을 지나 최후의 상념이라고 부를 수 있는 시가 형성된다”고 말한다(1977, p.158). 이때 ‘격정의 소리’를 무의식에 흐르는 소리로 볼 수 있다. 시가 우리의 마음을 정화시켜 주리라는 막연한 기대를 학문적으로 정립한 사람은 미국 예일대학 정신과의 Rothenberg(1972) 교수다. 수년간에 걸쳐 미국의 저명한 시인들을 직접 만나 그들의 시작과정을 살펴본 결과 그 과정이 정신치료와 비슷하더라는 것이다.

중학교 학생들의 과학탐구 수행과정에서 제시된 변인에 대한 이해

The purposes of this study were to investigate students'understanding of the experiment variables in secondary-school science inquiry activities. The results showed that the students understood the dependent variables well, but the operational variables less, and the controlling variables the least. It showed also that the type of dependent variable affected the students'understanding of how to find the operational variables. Students'recognition of the controlling variables was influenced by experimental apparatuses, experimental conditions, etc. Especially,when they were confronted with various controlling variables, they usually understood only a small number of controlling variables. These result show that students' recognition of the variables is content-dependent. Comparing the answers with the results of spell out the poor performance of the students in finding the controlling variable showed the content-dependency in finding the operational variables. The intermediately-performing students usually recognized the dependent variables well, but they showed a lower ratio than the poorly-performing students in recognizing the operational variables. The well-performing students usually recognized the operational variables and the dependent variables very well, but they also experienced a content-dependent recognition of the controlling variables. 이 연구는 중학교 과학탐구 수업에서 제시된 변인에 대한 학생들의이해를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 중학교 1학년 20명에게 교과서에 제시된탐구활동을 수행하게 하면서 학생들에게 활동에 주어진 변인을 판별하게한 결과, 학생들은 종속변인을 잘 판별하지만, 조작 변인은 잘 판별하지못하며, 통제변인은 거의 판별하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히종속변인의 형태가 조작변인의 판별에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있다. 통제변인의 인식은 실험도구나 조건에 영향을 받으며, 학생들의변인판별은 내용의존적인 것으로 나타났다. GALT 검사와 비교한 결과,미형성단계의 학생들은 조작변인의 판별에 내용의존성을 보이고, 과도기단계의 학생들은 종속변인만을 판별하는 반면, 형성단계의 학생들은 두변인을 잘 판별하지만 여전히 내용의존적임을 보여준다.

This study provides some interesting data on the dynamic and symptomatic changes of psychotic patients who were treated with the poetry therapy at the Neuro-psychiatric Hospital of Won Kwang University from April through October, 1986. In the study one patient’s psychodynamics is analysed and explained through his six poems in the order written during this period. In his first poem, symptomatically loquacity is shown, which is a characteristic feature of the manic state, and dynamically frustration of the dependent need is transformed into aggressive desire. The state of the increased psychomotor activity is presented in the second poem. Regression to the oral stage and repression of being regressed are also appeared here. In the third poem, he starts to show the superficial balance in the style and the wish to be healthy again. Even though he shows anxiety about the failure of the dependent interrelationship, he is able to restrict the use of pathological mental mechanisms in this poem. He particularly describes his feelings about the two pathologic states, mania and depression which both occur in himself periodically. In the fourth poem, he describes his future life, and shows the possibility to be mature from being in the narcissistic and dependent state. In the fifth poem, he shows the ability “to give”. This indicates that he has realized the object ‘to give’, but not remained in the narcissistic state. He also shows universalization and the strong desire to pursue the active relationship with the real object. In the sixth poem, he finally explains his own psychodynamics and gets emotional insight. Besides, his object has been confirmed in the concrete reality. The functions of repression and suppression are also seen dynamically in this last poem which is considered as a successful case of the poetry therapy.

Impact of postharvest exposure to freezing temperature (FT) on fruit physiology of ‘Fuji’ apples was investigated as related to quality changes and the development of flesh browning disorder during storage. Fruit were harvested near commercial maturity, exposed to -3.0 ± 0.5℃ for 15 days, and then stored at 0℃ for three additional months. Exposure to FT for over 10 days enhanced abnormal respiratory metabolism resulting in significant increases in internal ethanol and acetaldehyde. The metabolism appeared to recover from the FT impact when fruit were transferred to room temperature or gradually during the subsequent storage period at 0℃. Immediately after FT exposure, neither visible internal disorder nor significant quality deterioration was observed. Starting from the 15th day of storage, however, internal browning disorder developed in FT-subjected apples. The results suggest that visible freezing damage and severe quality deterioration do not occur incidentally by freezing phenomena itself. Interruption of respiratory metabolism and resultant fermentative compounds may be a potential factor, eventually inducing internal disorder after a certain lag period, regardless of recovery from the FT exposure impact.

사실 우울증이나 우울신경증은 옛날 용어가 되어버렸다. 요즘은 감정부장애(dysthymic disorder)라는 묘한 이름으로 불리고 있지만 역시 우울증이란 용어가 친숙감을 주고 있다. 그러나 우울증을 한마디로 간추려 표현하기란 여간 어려운 일이 아니다. "저조한 기분이 있는 상태"라고 하면 그리 쉽게 느껴지질 않는다. 오히려 진찰실에서 흔히 만나는 많은 환자들처럼 우울한 기분을 느끼기보다도 몸으로 말하는 우울 즉 우울증의 신체증상을 예를 들어 보는 방법이 더 쉽게 이해될 수 있으리라 생각된다.
