The poly(vinylimidazole-co-trifluoroethylmethacrylate-co-divinylbenzene)( QPVTD) copolymers were synthesized by solution polymerization. The quaternization of PVTD copolymers were carried with functionalizing reagents such as 1-bromo-2-methylpropane, 1-bromobutane, 1-bromo-3-methylbutane, 1-bromopentane. The QPVTD anion exchange membranes were prepared by the casting method. The chemical structure of the membranes were confirmed by FT-IR, <sup>1</sup>H-NMR spectrometer. The membrane properties such as water content, ion exchange capacity, electrical resistance and ion permselectivity for nitrate were measured. The maximum water uptake, electrical resistance and ion exchange capacity were 60.85%, 8.0 Ω/cm<sup>2</sup> and 1.25 meq/g, respectively.

This is a study on the Korean traditional buildings and visual composition. In the creation of art and culture, the west and the east is different. In the west, the concept of the creation is based on the Pluralism and in the east, on the Monism. In this aspect, the creation of traditional buildings must be interpreted by the visual space. The variation of traditional building form is influenced mainly by the visual deployment based on Inyan-ohaeng than the variation of measurement of length. That is the quality of space. Then the quality of space is determined by the sequence of visual point.

Background: The Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS) was developed as a means of providing rapid, accurate assessment of an injured child in a manner that would insure a comprehensive initial evaluation. Methods: A total of 69 cases of injured children 0 to 15 years of age who had undergone a laparotomy in the Department of Surgery, Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, from January 1994 through December 1998 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The most common injury mechanism was pedestrian auto accident (n=48, 69.7%), followed by fights (n=10, 14.5%), falls (n=7, 10.1%), and penetrating injuries (n=2, 2.9%). Children whose ISS (injury severity score) was greater than 40, below 20, and greater than 21 had a 100% mortality, a 0% mortality, and 66.7% morbidity, respectively. Children whose PTS was greater than 6, below 2, and below 8 had, a 0% mortality, a 100%mortality, and a 65.5% morbidity, respectively. A decreasing PTS and an increasing ISS were associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This study documents the inverse linear relationship between the PTS and the ISS (Y = -2.514X + 36.338). The overall mortality was 13% (9/69). A comparision between survivors and nonsurvivors showed significant differences in PTS (9.6±1.9 vs. 2.8±2.5, p<0.05), ISS ( 11.7±6.0 vs. 33.0±9.0, p<0.05), and morbidity (77.8% vs. 13.3%, p<0.05). Conclusions: These results suggest that the PTS is a valid predictor of morbidity and mortality in a multiple-trauma child with hemoperitonem or peritonitis and may be useful in conjunction with other indices to assess an injured child.

Recently, we have experienced 2 cases of abdominal aortic aneur ysm with periphera l arterial occlusive disease and performed successfully abdominal aortic aneurysmectomy with peripheral arterial reconstructive procedure simultaneously at Department of Surgery, Kang Nam St. Marys Hospital, Catholic Medical College. In the first case who v:as 65-year-old male with intermittent claudication, numbness and pain in the Rt. Leg, abdominal aortic aneurysm was noted unexpectedly during the evaluation of the peripheral arterial occlusive disease. In second case who vas 73-year-old male with interrnittent claudication in the Lt. Leg, abdominal aortic aneurysm vas noted unexpectedlv at the operation of peripheral arterial occlusive disease. According to the literatures, the reported incidence of abdominal aortic aneurysm in patients with peripheral arteria1 occulusive disease range from 1.5 per cent to 10 per cent. Hence all patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease are preferred to complete aortoperipheral angiographic study and ultrasonographic examination of abdominal aorta because an unsuspected abdominal aortic aneurysm could be a attributable cause of peripheral arterial occlusion. And when an unsuspected abdominal aortic aneurysm is detected under these circumstances, it should be resected and peripheral arterial reconstructive procedure performed simultaneously.

Besides, the advancement of science gave infinite impetus to human intellect, which in turn manifested the impulse to reach the mysteries of the universe and the very source of the creation by God. The age, which was naive in intelligence, came to have magier, magician, and Doctor Faust is one of the magicians. (2) The Legend of Faust and Goethe Goethe leas attracted to the gigantic character of Faust, and through it he attempted to create the representative character by employing Faust as chosen out of all humanity. The idea is that a man who strives to make infinite efforts and improve himself will never be ruined and will be eventually saved. (3) Lessing's Faust and Goethe's Faust The discovery was alreday made by Lessing that Faust should be saved. Yet, the stage Lessing was capable to reach was mere quantitative increase in intellect, whereas the starting point of Goethe's Faust is the moment when he rushes out of the world of intellect into that of behavior. In other words, the former, was the world of intellect; the latter was the world of experiement. II. The idea of salvation as appeares in Prolog im Himmel Attempts were made to analyze the idea of salvation. I find the conclusion that a real man blindly worship God, let God will finally save the man who makes continuous efforts toward Him. Mephisto is created as a stimulus to a man who is apt to neglect God out of his desire for comfort. III. The Tragedy of Gretchen The researcher made a study of social material and Goethe's material out of his own experience, and tried to compare the tragedy of Gretchen and that of the heroin. Further studies were made by analysing each scene in order to determine the essence of love, faith appearing both in Faust and Gretchen.
