        Effects of Online Peer Feedback Using CMC Instrument

        The present study examines whether the use of CMC tools in peer feedback can be effective in the writing improvement of EFL learners. 52 university students have been selected to participate in this current study. The participants were divided into two classes, and each class was assigned to peer feedback groups. Instructions on the writing task and the peer feedback training were thoroughly explained. The participants in both classes wrote their first draft and provided feedback to their group members using the bulletin board. Then, one class revised the final version after getting the feedback through only bulletin board (BBO); another class received feedback through chatting (BBC) after the bulletin board feedback, and then, revised the final version. The first drafts and the final versions of the essays were analyzed holistically and analytically. The statistical results indicated that there were significant differences in the writing improvement in each class, BBO and BBC class. However, no statistical difference was found between the BBO class and the BBC class although the mean score of the BBC class was slightly higher than that of the BBO class. Additionally, the participants’ questionnaire revealed that the use of chatting after the bulletin board peer feedback was extremely helpful in understanding the peer feedback.

        지역인을 고려한 『자갈치 아지매』의 언어 사용 양상

        『자갈치 아지매』는 45년의 역사를 지닌 최장수 라디오 프로그램 중의 하나다. 『자갈치 아지매』가 이렇게 오랜 역사를 지닐 수 있었던 이유는 높은 청취율 때문이다. 본 연구의 목적은 『자갈치 아지매』가 지역인들의 정서에 부합함으로써 청취율을 높이기 위해, 지역어적 특성을 어떻게 드러내고 있는지 그 언어 사용 양상을 분석해 보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 음운론적, 어법적, 어휘적 특성을 중심으로 『자갈치 아지매』의 언어 사용 양상을 살폈다. 『자갈치 아지매』에서는 음운론적으로는 경음화, 구개음화, 단모음화, 음운탈락 같은 부산․경남방언에서 많이 나타나는 음운현상을 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 어법적으로는 부산․경남방언의 대표적인 연결어미와 종결어미의 사용, ‘ㅂ’ 규칙 활용, 문법화한 ‘-가’, 인용표지 ‘-카다’ 등을 사용함으로써 부산․경남방언의 효과를 내고 있었다. 어휘 사용에 있어서는 개념을 전달해야 하는 명사의 경우, ‘기’를 제외하고는 거의 방언형을 사용하지 않는 데 비해, 상대적으로 동사와 부사에서는 방언형을 많이 사용하여 방언의 효과를 내고 있었다. 이처럼 『자갈치 아지매』에서는 의미 전달에 영향을 끼치지 않는 한에서 방언의 특성들을 이용하여 청취자들에게 지역어로 방송된다는 인식을 줌으로써 청취율을 높이는 방법을 사용하고 있음을 알 수 있다. The purpose of this study is to clarify which language use pattern the radio program Jagalchi Ajimae show to satisfy the emotion of local people. According to the phonological analysis, the phonological rules of Busan and Kyeongnam region such as glottalization, palatalization, monophthongization, phonological delection are largely discovered in this program. Grammatically the dialect effect of Busan and Kyongnam region is taken by using the regional dialect characteristics like conjunctive ending, final ending, ‘ㅂ’ regular conjugation, grammaticalized ‘-가’, quotation marker ‘-카다’ and so on. According to the use of words, the dialect form hardly appears except ‘기’ in the case of the noun conveying a concept but comparatively in the verb and the adverb usage, the dialect form is frequently seen, so it is more effective. In this way, the radio program Jagalchi Ajimae employs the strategy to increase the listening rates by using the dialect characteristics so far as it does not disturb the meaning transmission and by making listeners know to broadcast in the local language.

        Using a Student Response System (Socrative) as a Pre-Reading Method in an EFL Reading Environment

        The purpose of this study is to explore whether a student response system (SRS), Socrative, can be effective in supporting students’ reading comprehension when applied at the pre-reading phase. The purpose of utilizing Socrative was to enhance participation and promote collaboration among learners when they interact with one another in order to discuss their background knowledge of the reading passage. The 81 participants were comprised of undergraduate students from Gyeonggi province. They were assigned to two different groups, an experimental group using Socrative, and a control group without Socrative. The participants took the pre-test prior to performing the pre-reading activities. Then, both groups went through identical pre-reading activities with the exception being that one group used Socrative. After the pre-reading activities, a post-test was conducted in order to examine the learning gains. There was a significant difference found within the group using Socrative from the pre- to the post-tests; however, no significant difference was found between the two groups (Socrative versus non-Socrative). Participants’ perspectives on using Socrative were reported using both questionnaires and interviews. Participants showed a positive attitude toward using Socrative for reading classes. Pedagogical implications and futures studies were suggested based on the findings of this study.

        A study of peer feedback patterns in CMC modes on Korean EFL students

        This study explores the differences between EFL students' peer feedback patterns using two different CMC modes, synchronous mode (chatting) and asynchronous mode (bulletin board) in Korean EFL writing classes. After writing the first draft of an argumentative essay, 20 participants received their feedback by bulletin board and 18 received theirs through chatting. Participants' attitudes towards peer feedback using either chatting or bulletin board were investigated through the questionnaire. Peer feedback editing texts of chatting and bulletin board were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. The results show that the participants who were grouped in the bulletin board class provided larger amount of peer feedback than the chatting class in terms of frequency. Various peer feedback patterns were identified to indicate the clear distinction from the chatting and the bulletin board. As for the questionnaire, most participants found peer feedback useful regardless of using either chatting or bulletin boards. The findings of this study support that both CMC tools helped the need and effectiveness of peer feedback in EFL writing environment.

        Analysis of Research Trends Related to Child Counseling

        The study analyzed research trends related to child counseling mainly based on doctoral dissertations in Korea. The study analyzed collected research data by year, media type, and address factors focusing on domestic doctoral dissertations. The research year surveyed was from 2000 to 2020 with a total of 709 publications. The research issues were examined according to the trends of child counseling-related degrees, year, media type, and residential address factors. First, in terms of research trends by year, it was the highest with 67 articles (9.4%) in 2019. The results of research analysis by media type were 281 articles (35.2%) on art media (using natural objects, cognitive-behavioral approach, solution-centered and reality therapy approach, etc.) The research trend of each home appeal factor related to child counseling was found on 279 articles (33.7%) on emotional factors (ADHD, behavioral disorder, depressive lethargy, autism and autism spectrum, anxiety, etc.). This can be said to be a part that emphasizes the specificity and expertise of counseling for children in the developmental process. In addition, since verbal self-expression is in the process of development, one can state that counseling using more diverse media is emphasized. Lastly, as in the analysis of research trends by home appeal factor, it suggests that the area of child counseling should be more specialized in emotional factors (ADHD, behavioral disorder, depressive lethargy, autism and autism spectrum, anxiety, etc.).
