      • Sean O'Casey 작품에 나타난 여성의 이미지 : Dublin Trilogy를 중심으로 Dublin Trilogy

        This paper is to analyse how Sean O'Casey depicts the image of women in his works, especially in Dublin Trilogy. He conceives that reality is distorted and corrupted because of men's stupid ideas and acts, contrary to women's ability to perceive reality per se. O'Casey tried to seek effective ways to effect social correction and proffer a new vision by satirizing and exposing the reality in his works. Accordingly, the consistent theme of his works is poignant criticism of men's stupidty. The aim of his criticism of men's stupidity is by exposing various froms of their foolishness which results in physical and spiritual destruction of the Irish society as well as innocent women and children, to present his vision of a better society. He tells us that the construction of a better society requires positive and active attitudes women characters have shown us in Dublin Trilogy. O'Casey greatly enhances the image of women by delineating women's sense of reality and brave acts while criticizing men's unrealistic behavior based on absurd ideas such as patriotism and nationalism. He also makes women characters assert their own moral views and dismantle the ideology of women that they should be dependent, obedient, domestic and weak to some degree. By portraying women's realistic behavior and moral views in Dublin Trilogy, O'Casey suggests that man's nature and women's nature are not two separate opposing things. Therefore, only when they are integrated dialectically, organically and harmoniously, he propounds, new meaningful order of society can be established.

      • 演劇을 통한 英語學習 : Intonation을 中心으로 Focused on Intonation

        English intonation has been studied mainly from the linguistic viewpoint so far. Since the beginning of the 20th century, three basic approaches have been developed, of which one was led by an English phoneticist, Daniel Jones. He has described intonation with the term of "Tune". Tune is acoustically very similar to breath group, which can be classified into "unmarked breath group" (Tune 1) and "marked breath group" (Tune 2). These two contours, they claimed, consist of English phonemic units. The second approach is an attempt to describe pitch contours with tones which occur on a certain vowel. In other words, these phoneticists held that the rising or the falling of a tone determines the pitch pattern of utterance. It is an attempt to describe the intonation of a sentence in terms of tune and tone. The third approach has been developed by modern American linguistists who have focused their study on individual pitch level. They have employed "taxonomic phonemics" to analyze intonation. After classifying intonation into pitch, stress and juncture levels, they regrouped them into phonemic phrase, phonemic clause and suprasegmental morpheme. They attempted to describe them as part of the structural components of a sentence. Besides these kinds of the linguistically-focused studies on intonation, other viewpoints have been seldom adopted to explore intonation and these viewpoints have failed to attract a wide attention. Ivan Fonagy and Klara Magdics, however, have studied intonation by relating it to melody. They have classified the melody of a sentence into ten emotional patterns, namely, joy, tenderness, longing, coquetry, surprise, fear, complaint, scorn, anger and sarcasm and they have explained them by using tempo, voice and stress. Of course these patterns can be further divided. Joy increases the pitch range and it is reflected in a higher pitch and in an ascending melody. The stresses are approximately of equal force and are independent of the semantic importance of the words. The tempo is lively. In tenderness, the pitch range is narrow and the off-glide is audible in the long-stressed syllables. The tempo is restrained, loudness sustained and the articulation is soft. The melody of longing slightly ascends and descends and at the end of a sentence it gently rises. The pitch range is narrow and the tempo is restrained. In coquetry, the melody rises three times in contrast to the neutral intonation, twice without portamento and finally with portamento. The force of the sentences are similar and the articulation of the stressed syllables is relatively tense but the loudness is restrained so that it turns into a whisper. At the end of the sentence, head tone can be heard. Surprise increases the pitch range and the voice falls a fifth or a sixth interval from a high level. In yes-or-no questions the interval rises. The characteric of this sentence is an increase and decrease of tense and force. In fear, the pitch range is narrower than that of surprise and loudness and tempo are restrained. In the case of surprise, the melody sustains on a high level and in the last syllable it falls to a lower one but in case of fear, the melody does not stay long on the high level. It just, in the greater part of the phrase, remains on a straight melodic line. The melody of complaint is rhythmically interrupted by semitonic rises. The tempo is restrained and the melody ascends at rhythmic intervals, following the periodic contractions of expiratory organs. The characterics of scorn are a narrow pitch range, a compressed voice and a chest tone. In case of anger, the molody ascends in fourth, fifth or sixth intervals and frequently interrupts the straight melodic line. In the lengthened-stressed syllables a rapid off-glide can be heard. In extreme anger, the chest tone changes into a head tone. In the feeling of sarcasm, the voice is checked into stressed offglide. As a result, the voice sounds creaky and nasal. The stressed syllables form a wide arc. The main goal of a drama performed in English by Korean students is learning a foreign language effectively, but the speech more often than not is thrown over the audience's head because of their poor knowledge of intonation, which results in the learning of English only on the part of students who participate in the performance, but even then insufficiently. To solve this problem and to transmit the right emotion to the audience, acquiring correct knowledge of intonation should be emphasized.

        Comparison of Characteristics of P-Wave Detection in ECG with Wireless Patch Electrodes

        P-wave characteristic in the human electrocardiogram (ECG) is important in the diagnosis of atrial conduction pathology. In this paper, we measured an ECG signal from patient with cardiovascular disease using one lead ECG electrode system which is based on the wireless cardiac monitoring system. And we detected a P-wave in ECG signal using the complex-valued continuous wavelet transforms (CWT) according to two kinds of patch type electrodes such as an existing narrow patch type electrode and the improved wide patch type electrode presented in this paper. Also, we compared the characteristics in detecting the P-wave in terms of the magnitude and the width of P-waves. From the results of comparison we found that the width and the magnitude of P-wave detected using the wide patch type electrode is improved to be interpreted easier compared to those using the narrow patch type electrode. Furthermore, we have also proven that the complex-valued CWT can be used as a robust detector for P-wave in ECG signal analysis.

        Enhanced IL-12p40 Production in LPS-stimulated Macrophages by Inhibiting JNK Activation by Artemisinin

        Artemisinin can be isolated from Artemisia annua L. In addition to its well-known anti-malarial activity, artemisinin has antitumor and anti-microbial effects. In this study, we investigated the effect of artemisinin on the production of IL-12p40, which is important in the generation of T helper 1 responses. Artemisinin significantly induced IL-12p40 production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells. To elucidate the signaling molecules regulated by artemisinin in induced IL-12p40 production, the DNA-binding activity of several transcription factors and activation of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)s were investigated. The band intensities of NF-κB, AP-1, and SP1, and the activation of p38 MAPK and ERK were not changed by artemisinin. However, the induced phosphorylation of JNK was significantly decreased by artemisinin, and inhibition of the JNK signaling pathway further increased IL-12p40 production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Taken together, these data suggest that artemisinin induces the production of IL-12p40 in LPS-stimulated macrophage cells by inhibiting JNK activity.

        PyStudy : Python 학습 도우미 소프트웨어 개발

        The Korea Internet of Things Society. In this paper, we developed 'PyStudy' system as a python based self-study helper software. Proposed PyStudy system is consisted with several components such as PyStudy console, self-study window, helper and self-coding window. User can refer helper function to find questionable python libraries at on-line connection quickly. And self-progress checking on python study also provided on integrated PyStudy IDE software. The PyStudy software provides the information necessary to learn the Python language efficiently. Proposed software can be applicable to an advanced Python language education course. 논문에서는 python 언어를 학습하고자 하는 학생을 위한 학습 도우미 'PyStudy'를 개발하였다. 'PyStudy'는 콘솔창, 학습창, 학습 진도창, 파이썬 도움말, 학습콘텐츠로 구성되어 있다. 학생은 통상적인 통합개발환경(IDE) 기능과 학습콘텐츠들을 학습창을 통해 이용할 수 있다. 학습도중 모르는 것이 있을 경우 파이썬 도움말을 이용해 빠르게 찾을 수 있다. 학생의 학습관리는 학습 진도창을 통해 이루어진다. PyStudy는 파이썬 언어에 대한 효율적 학습환경을 제공하며, 이를 통해 파이썬 기반 고급 프로그래밍 교육에 적용할 수 있다.

        움직임 영역간 움직임 보상오차의 최소편차를 이용한 최적 블록정합 움직임 추정

        일반적으로 블록기반 움직임 추정에서 움직임 경계에 위치한 블록 내에서 서로 다른 움직임을 갖는 여러 움직임 영역이 공존한다. 이 때 블록 내의 움직임 보상오차는 각 움직임 영역에 따라 다르게 나타난다. 이는 기존의 평균절대오차와 같이 블록 전체에 대해 누적된 정합오차를 사용할 경우, 그릇된 움직임을 추정하고, 블록 전체의 움직임 보상에서 시각적으로 화질을 저하시키는 결과를 초래할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 시공간적으로 인접한 블록들의 움직임 정보를 이용하여 블록을 움직임에 따라 영역별로 나누고, 각 영역별 평균 움직임 보상오차를 구한 후, 영역간 보상오차의 최소편차를 고려하는 새로운 정합함수를 정의함으로써 최적의 움직임 벡터를 추정하기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 모의실험을 실시하여 기존의 평균절대오차를 사용한 전역 탐색법(full search : FS)과 윤곽기반 블룩 정합(edge oriented block matching algorithm)에 대한 추정결과를 서로 비교하여 제안한 방법의 우수성을 보였으며, 특히 움직임 보상결과 움직임 경계에서의 화질향상을 얻을 수 있었다. In general, several moving regions with different motions coexist in a block located on motion boundaries in the block-based motion estimation. In this case the motion compensation error(MCEs) are different with the moving regions. This is inclined to deteriorate the quality of motion compensated images because of the inaccurate motions estimated from the conventional mean absolute error(MAE) based matching function in which the matching error per pixel is accumulate throughout the block. In this paper, we divided a block into the regions according to their motions using the motion information of the spatio-temporally neighboring blocks and calculate the average MCF for each moving mentioned. From the simulation results, we showed the improved performance of the proposed method by comparing the results from other methods such as the full search method and the edge oriented block matching algorithm. Especially, we improved the quality of the motion compensated images of blocks on motion boundaries.

        실시간 위험환경 관리를 위한 센서 모듈시스템 연구

        본 연구에서는 산업현장, 지하시설물의 밀폐공간에서 유해가스 및 생체신호를 동시에 검출이 가능한 휴대형 검출시스템을개발하였다. 개발된 시스템은 가스검출용 센서모듈, 패치형 1채널 소형 ECG 센서, 3축가속도 검출센서용 모듈 및 통계분석용 시스템이다. 시스템모듈의 성능을 검증하기 위해 디지털해상도, 생체신호증폭도, 출력전압 및 초소형모듈의 크기로 평가하였다. 개발된 시스템의 성능결과 디지털해상도는 300(rps), 신호증폭이득은 500dB이상 성능을 가졌고, 심전도 모듈은50mm×10mm×10mm로 제작되어 패치형으로 활용도를 높일 수 있다. 본 연구의 휴대용 가스검출기 및 패치용 심전도, 가속도검출기는 산업현장작업자의 실시간 감시용 IoT 기반 관리시스템으로 활용한다면 가치가 높을 것으로 생각된다. In this study, a portable detection system was developed that can detect harmful gas and signals simultaneously in anenclosed space of industrial sites and underground facilities. The developed system is a sensor module for gas detection,a patch type 1 channel small ECG sensor, a module for three-axial acceleration detection sensor, and a system forstatistics. In order to verify the performance of the system modules, the digital resolution, signal frequency, outputvoltage, and ultra-small modules were evaluated. As a result of the performance of the developed system, the digitalresolution was 300 (rps) and the signal amplification gain was 500 dB or more, and the ECG module was manufacturedwith 50mm×10mm×10mm to increase patch utilization. It is believed that the product of this research will be valuable ifit is used as an IoT-based management system for real-time monitoring of industrial workers.

      • Callicarpa rubella for. angustata C. P’ei shows anti-inflammatory effects by blocking p38 activation in murine macrophages

        Many attempts have been made to develop anti-inflammatory drugs by using natural products because natural productshave been traditionally used to cure severe inflammatory diseases. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatoryeffects and the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects in murine macrophages by using an ethanol extract ofCallicarpa rubella for. angustata C. P`ei (ECR). We found that ECR treatment significantly inhibited lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated nitric oxide (NO) production in macrophages and downregulated mRNA and protein expression levelsof inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). However, ECR did not modulate cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression at bothmRNA and protein levels. Among the inflammatory cytokines, interleukin (IL)-1β production was reduced by ECR treatmentwhereas the level of IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α was independent of ECR treatment. Western blot analysisrevealed that ECR notably reduced the phosphorylation of p38 but had no effect on the activation of nuclear factor kappaB (NF-κB) and other mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), including extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) andc-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK). These results imply that ECR exerts anti-inflammatory effects via selective inhibition of theproduction of inflammatory mediators including iNOS and IL-1β by inactivating p38.
