        Effects of flood disturbance on the cohort structure of the riverine mayfly Ephemera orientalis (Ephemeroptera: Ephemeridae) in the Han River in Seoul, Korea

        The aim of the present study was to investigate the adaptation of coexisting Ephemera orientalis (Ephemeroptera: Ephemeridae) cohorts to flood timing. Larvae were collected from the Han River (Seoul, Korea) from 2012 to 2014, and their life history was assessed by measuring head capsule width and by comparing the emergence period of the insects in relation with the flood season. Two slowgrowing cohorts (S1 and S2) and one fast-growing cohort (F) were identified. The S1 cohort was found to hatch in June or July and to emerge the following summer. Whereas, the S2 cohort was found to hatch in August or September and emerge the following August. Early-hatching larvae from the S1 cohort became the F cohort through the process of cohort splitting and subsequently merged with the S2 cohort. The F cohort, however, was not observed when huge floods occurred or under low temperature conditions. Furthermore, floods that resulted from>80mmprecipitation significantly reduced larval abundance; therefore, flooding affects cohorts both directly and indirectly. Most cohorts emerged before and after the flood season (July 10 to August 10). The results of the present study indicate that the emergence period of E. orientalis has evolved to avoid the flood season.

      • 라인 레이저 시스템을 이용한 물체형상 측정 및 분석 시스템 개발

        In this research, we have developed a new range finding scheme using line laser scanning technologies. A vertically aligned line laser is scanned horizontally, and the projected striped on a target is captured by a CCD camera, then the depth information to the object can be determined by the triangle law. To enhance the accuracy and the speed, we employed efficient noise filtering techniques as well as a fast binalizing and thinning algorithm. The developed range finding system is compact, cheap and reliable so that it can be used variety of application fields including automatic defect detection, navigation, virtual reality, 3D object recognition, and so on. The performance of the developed system has been demonstrated using variety of real objects.

      • 마이크로 로봇을 위한 비젼 시스템 개발

        In this research, we have developed a new navigation scheme using computer vision technology. A line feature tacking-based scheme is developed in which the orientation of the line features on the ceiling are detected in the input image, and used for guiding the direction of motion of a robot. In order to detect line information robustly, preprocessing steps such as lens calibration, noise cancelling, feature enhancement are employed. An also, to enhance the accuracy and the speed, we employed Intel IPL(Image Processing Library) for the implementation. The developed vision-based navigation system is quite reliable so that it can be used in a variety of natural circumstances, for example, home, office, factory, and so on. The performance of the developed system has been tested in many real environments, and shows excellent results in both accuracy and speed.

        Limited retromuscular fibrofatty tissue resection in upper blepharoplasty for senile patients

        Background Studies of eyelid anatomy suggest an absence of supratarsal folds and a redundancy of retromuscular tissue in many Asians. Aggressive retromuscular tissue resection during senile blepharoplasty can lead to complications such as hematoma and extra fold formation. A thin fold is considered aesthetically pleasing, but upper eyelid hollowness is undesirable. Therefore, senile blepharoplasty allows relatively little room for retromuscular resection. Methods Between January 2016 and March 2019, blepharoplasty without a brow procedure was performed in 48 patients aged 55 years and older. In some patients with thin eyelids, the upper retromuscular tissue was explored, and the surgeon decided intraoperatively whether to perform resection. In total, 36 of 48 patients underwent retromuscular tissue resection, which was confined to the central and lateral aspects of the eyelid within 7–10 mm from the incision in the superior direction to create a crisp, thin fold without hollowness. The skin was closed, with the closure including the levator palpebrae superioris (levator) muscle, to create a weak, natural-looking, and dynamic fold instead of the buried dermo-levator suture typically created during double eyelid surgery. Results In the 72 eyelids that underwent resection, hematoma or extra fold formation was absent. In all cases, thin folds were achieved without an increase in the hollowness of the upper eyelid. Most patients were satisfied with their natural-looking postoperative appearance. Conclusions When indicated, limited retromuscular resection is recommended in cases of senile blepharoplasty. The resection should be confined to the central and the lateral aspects of the eyelid, within 7–10 mm in the superior direction from the incision, to create a crisp thin fold without hollowness.

        중앙과 지방간 사드 배치 갈등 분석 : 협상론적 시각에서

        본 논문은 협상론적 시각에서 중앙정부(국방부)와 지방정부(성주군)간 사드 배치 갈등사례를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 상생 협상에서 강조하는 이해관계, 객관적 기준, 창조적 대안 등 3가지 변수에 우리나라 문화에 특유한 응어리 해소를 추가하여 분석 틀을 작성하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 국방부와 성주군은 서로 상대방의 요구나 주장에 좌우되었고 요구의 이면에 깔려 있는 이해관계에 대해서는 관심을 갖지 못하였다. 예컨대, 가장 중요한 입지 이슈에 대한 국방부의 이해관계는 군사적 효용에 있었고 성주군은 지역의 피해 최소화에 있었지만 그에 대한 관심과 해결노력은 부족하였다. 둘째, 상충되는 이해관계를 조정하기 위해 선례나 과학적 판단과 같은 객관적 기준을 적용하지 않았다. 예컨대, 전자파의 경우 외국사례(해외 사드기지의 측정결과)를 활용하였으나 성주군과 합의하지 않고 정부에서 일방적으로 공개하였다. 셋째, 성산포대에서 성주골프장으로의 입지 이전을 통해 응어리 해소를 시도하였으나 전자파에 대한 진정성 있는 사과나 시정조치를 취하지 못하였다. 마지막으로 서로의 이해관계를 만족시키는 창조적 대안을 모색하지 않았으며 정부의 일방적 조치에 의존한 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this paper is to examine the conflict process on the THAAD(Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) between Ministry of National Defense(MND) and Seongju Gun(SJ) from a negotiation theoretic perspective. We selected four criteria for analysis, three of which are real interests, objective criteria, and creative options considered to be important in win-win negotiations, and the other one is anger-dissolving unique to Korean culture. According to the analysis, first, MND and SJ did not focus on mutual underlying interests, but clung to their own demands or positions. In case of the THAAD Site, they never paid attention to the other party’s interests, namely, damage minimization of SJ and military utility of MND. Second, they did not apply the objective criteria to coordinate their conflicting interests. For example, MND opened the measurements of electromagnetic wave from foreign THAAD sites without considering the SJ’ demand. Third, MND moved the THAAD Site from Seongsan battery to Seongju country club, but failed to dissolve the anger of residents due to the lack of warm-hearted apology and corrective action. Finally, they did not seek creative options to meet their conflicting interests, thereby the conflict still remains unresolved.

        사드 배치의 수용성 결정요인 분석: 구조방정식모형의 활용

        본 연구는 사드 배치를 둘러싸고 격렬한 대립과 분쟁을 경험한 성주지역 주민들을 대상으로 인식조사를 실시하여 사드 배치의 수용성에 영향을 미치는 요인을 탐색하였다. 이론과 선행연구에 입각하여 분석모형을 구성하고 이해관계, 인식틀, 그리고 한국적 특수성인 응어리가 수용성에 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 분석 결과 이해관계, 인식틀, 응어리의 3가지 요인이 수용성에 유의한 영향을 미치며, 그 중에서 응어리가 가장 큰 영향을 미친다는 사실을 확인하였다. 사드배치에 대한 주민의 수용성은 지역의 손익이나 정부 신뢰보다 가슴에 쌓인 울분과 분노에 의해 더 좌우될 수 있다는 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과 이론적 관점에서 가치, 신념, 이해관계, 신뢰성을 중시하는 서구 중심의 수용성 이론에서 한국문화의 특수성인 응어리를 고려한 이론의 확장가능성을 시사 받을 수 있다. 그 다음 실천적 관점에서 원전과 사드 배치 등의 국책사업 추진시 지역의 피해를 보상하거나 정부의 신뢰를 회복하는 조치 못지않게 주민들의 분노, 울화, 좌절 등과 같은 응어리를 해소하는 과정에 초점을 두어야 한다는 사실을 시사 받을 수 있다. The purpose of this paper is to explore the determinants of public acceptance through the survey of SungJu county residents who have been suffered from the THAAD deployment. This paper analyzed the effect of interests, conceptual frame, hard feelings on public acceptance through the structural equation model. The results of this analysis showed that interests, conceptual frame, and hard feelings have a significant negative effect on public acceptance, especially hard feelings embedded in Korean culture have the most negative effect on acceptance. In theoretical aspects, the paper suggests that Western acceptance theories need to consider the hard feelings embedded in Korean culture as well as the value, personal beliefs, and interests. In practical aspects, the paper also proposes that Korean government should switch its focus from compensation for regional loss and trust building with residents to the dissolution of hard feeling such as individual resentment and anger in siting the hazardous public facilities.
