The purpose of this study was to provide exact information on what types of educational environments affected skiing education. The subjects in this study were 1,500 randomly selected college students who took skiing lessons at three randomly selected ski resorts. A survey was conducted and instruments used in earlier studies were rearranged to serve the purpose of the study. For data handling, SPSS Win 12.0 program was employed, and the level of significance was set at p<.05. After analyzing the collected data and testing hypotheses formulated in the study, the following findings were given; 1. As for their satisfaction with dining facilities and food services, there was a gap between the male and female students as the collective averages of the males and females were 3.0975 and 2.9955 respoectively. And the gap between the two was significant at the .001 level of significance. By school year, the sophomores(3.1369) were most satisfied, followed by the freshmen(3.0784), juniors(3.0242) and seniors(2.9075), and the disparities between them were significant at the p<.05 level of significance. When Scheffe posttest was implemented, there was a significant gap between the freshmen and seniors and between the sophomores and seniors. 2. Concerning their satisfaction with rental houses and slopes, both the male and femle students expressed high satisfaction, but the gap between the two was significant. By school year, there was no significant intergroup gap, as every student was moderately satisfied with them. regardless of school year. 3. Regarding their satisfaction with skiing instructors. both the males and females gave a mean of 3.5 or higher marks to instructors. and when one-way ANOVA was implemented, there appeared no significant gap between them. By school year, every student expressed relatively high satisfaction, regardless of school year. Specifically, the freshmen found skiing instructors most satisfactory. The sophomores and freshmen were least pleased with them, and the gap between them was significant.

BACKGROUND:

Noninvasive prenatal diagnosis of monogenic disorders using maternal plasma and targeted massively parallel sequencing is being investigated actively. We previously demonstrated that comprehensive genetic diagnosis of a Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patient is feasible using a single targeted sequencing platform. Here we demonstrate the applicability of this approach to carrier detection and noninvasive prenatal diagnosis.

METHODS:

Custom solution-based target enrichment was designed to cover the entire dystrophin (DMD) gene region. Targeted massively parallel sequencing was performed using genomic DNA from 4 mother and proband pairs to test whether carrier status could be detected reliably. Maternal plasma DNA at varying gestational weeks was collected from the same families and sequenced using the same targeted platform to predict the inheritance of the DMD mutation by their fetus. Overrepresentation of an inherited allele was determined by comparing the allele fraction of 2 phased haplotypes after examining and correcting for the recombination event.

RESULTS:

The carrier status of deletion/duplication and point mutations was detected reliably through using a single targeted massively parallel sequencing platform. Whether the fetus had inherited the DMD mutation was predicted correctly in all 4 families as early as 6 weeks and 5 days of gestation. In one of these, detection of the recombination event and reconstruction of the phased haplotype produced a correct diagnosis.

CONCLUSIONS:

Noninvasive prenatal diagnosis of DMD is feasible using a single targeted massively parallel sequencing platform with tiling design.

The optimal control of heat pump performance for heating mode operation was investigated. Fuzzy logic was applied to control the heating performance of heat pump system and superheat at compressor discharge was taken as a control variable. Regression model was adapted to determine the optimal points where COP is maximized. Optimization of fuzzy rule table was investigated to improve operation performance of heat pump system. Experiments were carried out using original fuzzy table and the modified fuzzy rule table for heating mode operation of heat pump system. The results show that control performance of heat pump system with the modified fuzzy rule table was better than that with the original rule table.

This paper presents a front-end passive circuit module for ZigBee applications using low-temperature co-fired ceramic technology. The front-end part consists of an antenna, a bandpass filter, a switch, and two baluns. In antenna design, the solenoid shape is employed for reducing the size of the antenna, resulting in an overall size of 9times16.4times1.82 mm3 and a gain of -1.4 dBi. As for the filter, two types of filters are suggested. First, the lumped-type filter employing a high-Q spiral inductor has more than 20-dB attenuation at both stopbands, very near to the passband. Secondly, the semilumped-type filter adopting an edge coupled line and a loading capacitor provides a group delay of below 5 ns and is adequate for the full module structure due to the structure flexibility. A balun is evaluated using lumped components instead of a transmission line and, thus, it provides an insertion loss of only 0.3 dB and a phase difference of 180deg between balanced signals. Based on these components, an RF front-end module including attaching pads for an RF integrated circuit (IC) and baseband IC is implemented. In case of using the lumped-type filter, the insertion loss of the front-end module is 6.5 dB, and the group delay is below 7 ns. In case of adopting the semilumped-type filter, the insertion loss is 6.2 dB, and the group delay is below 4 ns. The overall size of the former and latter is 25.14times28.5times0.68 mm3 and 25.66times25.58times1.17 mm3, respectively

Comparative in vitro and in vivo studies were conducted using a bioactive poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid containing calcium, which was prepared by sol–gel method. The behavior of human bone marrow stromal cells (hBMSCs) during in vitro osteogenic differentiation were evaluated on poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid and poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid coated with apatite, which mimicked in vivo events. hBMSCs cultured on tissue culture plates (TCPs) were used as a control. For comparative studies, in vivo testing was also conducted using poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid and poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid coated with apatite in the diaphyseal bone defects of rabbit tibiae. Initial attachments and early proliferations of hBMSCs onto poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane with or without the apatite layer were comparable those onto TCPs. However, the late proliferation and the osteogenic differentiation activities on poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid were significantly lower than the hybrid coated with apatite or TCPs. These results were caused by the delayed detachment of hBMSCs induced by the upward growth of spire-shaped apatite granules on the flat apatite layer through mixed nucleation (heterogeneous and homogeneous nucleation) and growth of apatite crystals during cell culture. However, the poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid showed excellent osteoconductivity as same as poly(ϵ-caprolactone)-organosiloxane nanohybrid coated with apatite in vivo even though the cell testing results in vitro were poor. This discrepancy can be explained by the difference in initial degree of supersaturation of apatite in cell culture medium and buffering ability between cell culture medium and body fluid with respect to calcium, which directly affects the nucleation mechanism of apatite crystals and the morphology of grown apatite granules. These findings imply that much attention is required and an optimal method should be used to assess cell responses in vitro. Our results suggest that precoating the apatite layer before in vitro testing is desirable for bioactive materials that release calcium quickly and in large amount because this treatment can more closely mimic in vivo events. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polycrystalline silicon thin films were deposited by inductively coupled plasma (ICP) assisted magnetron sputtering using a gas mixture of Ar and H₂ on a glass substrate at 250℃. At constant Ar mass now rate of 10 sccm, the working pressure was changed between 10 mTorr and 70 mTorr with changing H₂ flow rate. The effects of RF power applied to ICP coil and Ar/H₂ gas mixing ratio on the properties of the deposited Si films were investigated. The crystallinity was evaluated by both X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. From the results of Raman spectroscopy, the crystallinity was improved as hydrogen mixing ratio was increased up to Ar/H₂=10/16 seem; the maximum crystalline fraction was 74% at this condition. When RF power applied to ICP coil was increased, the crystallinity was also increased around 78%. In order to investigate the surface roughness of the deposited films, Atomic Force Microscopy was used.
