        Use of MAAP in Generating Accident Source Term Parameters

        The parametric model method determines the accident source term which is Presented by a set of source term parameters. In this method, the cumulative distribution of each source term parameter should be derived for its uncertainty analysis. This paper introduces a method of generating the parameters in the form of cumulative distribution using MAAP version 4.0. In MAAP, there are model parameters which could incorporate uncertain physical and/or chemical phenomena. In general, the model parameters do not have a point value but a range. In this paper, considering that, the input values of model parameters influencing each parameter are sampled using LHS. Then, the computation results are shown in cumulative distribution form. For a case study, the CDFs of FCOR and WES of Kori Unit 1 are derived. The target scenarios for the computation are the ones whose initial events are large LOCA, small LOCA and transient, respectively. It is found that the computed CDF's in this study are consistent to those of NUREG-1150 and the use of MAAP is proven to be adequate in assessing the parameters of the severe accident source term.

        Effect of Cultivars and Cooking Methods on the Trypsin Inhibitor Activities of Potatoes

        The trypsin inhibitor activities (TIA) of various potato cultivars were evaluated by measuring the inhibition of trypsin inhibitor activity using N-benzoyl-DL-arginine-p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) as substrate. The TIA values of 5 potato cultivars (1.99 to 2.88 mg/g) were significantly different among cultivars (p<0.05). When the TIA values of commercially processed potatoes were determined, no TIA was detected. During cooking, the IT<sub>50</sub> (time required to reach 50% inhibition of TIA) values were decreased as heating temperature and time increased. The IT<sub>50</sub> of moist heating was estimated to be 0.34 min at 100℃, whereas for deep-fat frying the IT50 was 0.13 min at 180oC and 5.28 min for oven baking at 100℃. The IT50 value of microwave cooking was 0.194 min at medium heat, and which was similar to that of pressure cooking at 120℃ (0.185 min). Moreover, there was a negative relationship between temperature (≥80℃) and IT<sub>50</sub>values (R2=0.99, p<0.01). The TIA of potato was completely inactivated by moist heating at 100℃within 5 min, whereas the pressure cooking at 120℃ and deep-fat frying at 180℃ within 60 and 30 sec, respectively. Based on our results, deep-fat frying is the most effective cooking method to reduce TIA in potatoes.

        High Temperature- and High Pressure-Processed Garlic Improves Lipid Profiles in Rats Fed High Cholesterol Diets

        Garlic protects against degenerative diseases such as hyperlipidemia and cardiovascular diseases. However, raw garlic has a strong pungency, which is unpleasant. In this study, we examined the effect of high temperature/high pressure-processed garlic on plasma lipid profiles in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were fed a normal control diet, a high cholesterol (0.5% cholesterol) diet (HCD) only, or a high cholesterol diet supplemented with 0.5% high temperature/high pressure-processed garlic (HCP) or raw garlic (HCR) for 10 weeks. The body weights of the rats fed the garlic-supplemented diets decreased, mostly because of reduced fat pad weights. Plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride (TG) in the HCP and HCR groups decreased significantly compared with those in the HCD group. Additionally, fecal TC and TG increased significantly in the HCP and HCR groups. It is notable that no significant differences in plasma or fecal lipid profiles were observed between the HCP and HCR groups. High temperature/high pressure-processed garlic contained a higher amount of S-allyl cysteine than raw garlic (P<.05). The results suggest that high temperature/high pressure-processed garlic may be useful as a functional food to improve lipid profiles.

        급성 및 만성 B형 간염환자의 위배출시간에 관한 연구

        N/A Anorexia, nausea, and vomiting are one of the most frequent symptoms in viral hepatits patients. These may be due to poorly detoxified substances by dysfunctioned hepatocytes or by gastritis, but the pathophysiology is not totally understood. The symptoms interfere with adequate nutrient intake and are managed by metoclopramide, which accelerates gastric emptying. Thus delayed gastric emptying may well be a contributing factor to such symptoms. To determine such a relationship, we measured gastric emptying time in 11 normal subjects, 9 acute (AVH), and 12 chronic B viral hepatitis (CVH) patients. All were males with a mean age of 23 years. An egg was labeled with 0.5 mCi of Tc-99m-sulfur colloid, fried, then eaten between 2 slices of bread with 100cc of water. Anterior and posterior images were taken at 20 minute intervals over a 2 hour period. A geometric mean of activity pertaining to the gastric region was measured, and T1/2 was calculated from the time activity curve. T1/2 for normal the group was 57.8±6.3 minutes while that for the AVH and CVH group was 58.2±8.2 (p=0.40) and 64.1±10.5 (p=0.09), respectively. There was 1 AVH patient and 4 CVH patients with prolonged T1/2. Anorexia and nausea was seen in 71% and 46% of the patients, respectively. 80% and 60% of the patients with prolonged T1/2 had anorexia and nausea, respectively.

        To reduce the chattering errors of reed switch sensors used for automatic remote measurement of water supply system, a reed switch sensor was analyzed and improved. The operation of reed switch sensors can be described as a mechanical contact by approximation of permanent magnet piece to generate an electrical pulse. The reed switch sensors are used in measurement application by detecting the rotational or translational displacement. To apply for flow measurement devices, the reed switch sensors should keep high reliability. They are applied for the electronic digital type of water flow meters. The reed switch sensor is just installed simply on the mechanical type flow meter. A small magnet is attached on a pointer of the water meter counter rotor. Inside the reed sensor, two steel leaf springs make mechanical contact and apart as rotation of flow meter counter. The counting electrical contact pulses can be converted as the water flow amount. The MCU sends the digital flow rate data to the server using the wireless communication network. But it occurs data difference or errors by chattering noise. The reed switch sensor contains chattering error by it self at the force equivalent position. The vibrations such as passing car near to the switch sensor installed location. In order to reduce chattering error, most system uses just software methods for example using filter and also statistical calibration methods. The chattering errors were reduced by changing leaf spring structure using mechanical hysteresis characteristics.

        상수도 서비스의 구조개혁과 정부간 정치

        우리나라의 대표적 공공서비스인 상수도는 내부적으로 누적된 관리상의 비효율과 외부적으로 부과된 개방화의 압력에 직면하여 효율성의 위기는 물론 공공성의 위기를 경험하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 관료정치의 관점에서 환경부와 행정안전부 간의 정책경쟁에 내재된 지방상수도 구조개편 대안들의 의미를 규명하는 한편 구조개혁 압력에 직면한 지방자치단체의 전략적 선택을 과거와 미래를 대비하는 방식으로 비교한다는 연구목표를 설정하였다. 분석결과 지방상수도 주관부처인 행정안전부와 환경부는 IMF 구제금융이래 최근까지 다양한 구조개혁 대안을 제시해 왔다. 또한 양 부처는 구조개혁 압력과 병행하여 지방상수도에 대한 관할권 강화 차원에서 각기 공사화와 민영화에 초점이 부여된 자신의 개혁구상을 실현하기 위한 관료정치에 주력하고 있다. 한편 중앙정부의 개혁압력에 직면하여 자치단체들은 기존의 점진적 대응전략인 자치단체내 상하수도 통합, 자치단체간 상수도 통합, 자치단체별 민간위탁 등을 초월하는 미래의 혁신적 대응전략을 마련하는 일에 부심하고 있다. 현재 자치단체들이 선택가능한 미래지향적 개혁대안은 크게 공사화와 민영화로 구분되지만 단기적으로 권역별 공사화와 수자원공사가 주도하는 위탁관리 대안의 실현가능성이 높다는 점을 잠정적인 결론으로 도출할 수 있었다. As one of the representative public services, the Korean water supply system has been noticeably experiencing two kinds of the crisis internally and externally. The one results basically from manageral inefficiency which has been gradually accumulated within the internal system, and the other is a matter related to the outer pressure toward privatization which means the diminishing of publicity the water supply system has in itself as a public service. Although it seems that there is no such “a stone to catch two birds,” efficiency and publicity in the water supply system as well as other public services, the efforts to reduce the gap between two values are still on-going as well. Furthermore, such efforts and strategies to harmonize such two values in reforming the water supply system have been highly diversified according to each different interest and viewpoint by each different agency. Focusing on the viewpoint of bureaucratic politics, thus this study aims firstly to reveal the meanings of restructuring the water supply system by two ministries, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Administration & Safety. This study also tries to analyze the past and present of the local governments` choices in responding to the pressures for efficiency and publicity. The results of this study show that two major agencies of the central government for the local water supply system, the Ministry of Administration & Safety and the Ministry of Environment have been suggesting a variety of reformative alternatives since the IMF crisis in 1997. For realizing their reformative ideas and plans focused on ``public corporatization,`` and ``privatization,`` both ministries also have deeply engaged in the process of bureaucratic politics through which to strengthen up their policy initiatives surrounding the local water supply system. On the other hand, the findings also show that there have been many local governments` attempts to build more reformative and future-oriented strategies in pursuing policy alternatives for their water supply system and these kinds of efforts seems much more far beyond other conventional policy means local governments typically used to mobilize such as integrating water supply with sewage system within administrative departments functionally and organizationally, establishing inter-governmental system for water supply, and out-sourcing the services out of public agency. Finally this study points out that the possibility both for establishing public corporation in each zoning area and out-tasking led by existing KWRC(Korea Water Resource Corporation) are relatively high for the time being, although, in a long term perspective, it seems quite apparent that many options available to local governments could be limited into two major strands: public corporatization and privatization.
