With the increase of the added amount of stabilizer, an increase in strength of Liquefied Stabilized Soil (LSS) is observed while the seismic resistance might decrease due to its brittleness. On the other hand, when the LSS is used as a backfill soil for cut and cover tunnel etc. with the aim of reducing the overburden pressure, there is a concern about the use of the LSS prepared with a relatively lower slurry density instead of the normal slurry density with considering the strength reduction. In the past, a series of studies on the Liquefied Stabilized Soil mixed with newspaper prepared like cotton wool as the fiber material was carried out in order to improve the brittle property of the LSS, and it was indicated that the brittle property after the peak is improved due to the reinforcing effect of the fiber. However, there are few study cases and still many unexplained parts about the LSS with reduced slurry density. In this study, a series of triaxial tests were conducted on LSS with the different added amount of fiber as well as slurry density and the results showed that the strength and initial stiffness were influenced by the slurry density while the degree of damage was reduced by the addition of fibers.
Daam1 regulates fascin for actin assembly in mouse oocyte meiosis

<P>As a formin protein, Daam1 (Dishevelled-associated activator of morphogenesis 1) is reported to regulate series of cell processes like endocytosis, cell morphology and migration via its effects on actin assembly in mitosis. However, whether Daam1 plays roles in female meiosis remains uncertain. In this study, we investigated the expression and functions of Daam1 during mouse oocyte meiosis. Our results indicated that Daam1 localized at the cortex of oocytes, which was similar with actin filaments. After Daam1 morpholino (MO) microinjection, the expression of Daam1 significantly decreased, which resulted in the failure of oocyte polar body extrusion. These results might be due to the defects of actin assembly, since the decreased fluorescence intensity of actin filaments in oocyte cortex and cytoplasm were observed. However, Daam1 knockdown seemed not to affect the meiotic spindle movement. In addition, we found that fascin might be the down effector of Daam1, since the protein expression of fascin decreased after Daam1 knockdown. Thus, our data suggested that Daam1 affected actin assembly during oocyte meiotic division via the regulation of fascin expression.</P>

The tone reservation (TR) scheme is an attractive method to reduce peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in the filter bank multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) systems. However, the high PAPR of FBMC signal will severely degrades system performance. To address this issue, a cyclic shift based TR (CS-TR) scheme with embedding side information (SI) is proposed to reduce the PAPR of FBMC signals. At the transmitter, four candidate signals are first generated based on cyclic shift of the output of inverse discrete Fourier transform (IDFT), and the SI of the selected signal with minimum peak power among the four candidate signals is embedded in sparse symbols with quadrature phase-shift keying constellation. Then, the TR weighted by optimal scaling factor is employed to further reduce PAPR of the selected signal. At the receiver, a reliable SI detector is presented by determining the phase rotation of SI embedding symbols, and the transmitted data blocks can be correctly demodulated according to the detected SI. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the existing TR schemes in both PAPR reduction and bit error rate (BER) performances. In addition, the proposed scheme with detected SI can achieve the same BER performance compared to the one with perfect SI.

Lots of minor constituents in herbal medicines have shown great potential to devolve into leadcompounds, and their extraction is attracting more and more attention in pharmaceutical industry. Thisstudy provided an example that showed efficient and selective extraction of minor bioactive naturalproducts (prenylatedflavonoids with anti-cancer activities) from an herbal medicine (licorice) using pureionic liquids as green solvents. After investigation of a variety of hydrophobic ionic liquids withultrasonic-assisted extraction, we found that [C8MIM]BF4 (1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluor-oborate) was the most effective one for extraction offive representative compounds (isoangustone A,glycycoumarin, licoisoflavanone, licoricidin and glabridin), and solvent to solid ratio, extraction time,extraction temperature and soaking time were then optimized through single-factor experiments andresponse surface methodology. As a result, the established method had significantly higher extractionselectivity than conventional organic solvents, which could be attributed to significant physical change oflicorice microstructures after extraction, as well as strong interactions (especially hydrogen bondinteractions) between [C8MIM]BF4 and prenylatedflavonoids by mechanism study. In addition, 78.92% ofthe extracted prenylatedflavonoids could be readily recovered from [C8MIM]BF4 by using reversed-phasesolid phase extraction, and the recyclability of [C8MIM]BF4 was also confirmed.
