        Bifidobacterium longum and Galactooligosaccharide Improve Skin Barrier Dysfunction and Atopic Dermatitis-like Skin

        Purpose: The beneficial effects of a combination therapy using Bifidobacterium longum and galactooligosaccharide (GOS) for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) have not been elucidated. Methods: Gene expressions of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells and fecal abundance of B. longum from 12-month-old infants were evaluated. Human primary epidermal keratinocytes (HEKs) and hairless mice were treated with B. longum, GOS, B. longum-derived extracellular vesicles (BLEVs), dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB), or a synbiotic mixture of B. longum and GOS. Expression of epidermal barrier proteins and cytokines as well as serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels were analyzed in HEKs and mice. Dermatitis scores, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), epidermal thickness, and fecal B. longum abundance were evaluated in mice. Results: Fecal abundance of B. longum was negatively correlated with blood IL-13 expression in infants. B. longum or BLEVs increased expression of filaggrin (FLG) and loricrin (LOR) in HEKs. B. longum increased the efficacy of GOS to upregulate FLG and LOR expressions in HEKs. Oral administration of GOS increased fecal abundance of B. longum in mice. Oral administration of B. longum attenuated DNCB-induced skin inflammation, abnormal TEWL, AD-like skin, and deficiency of epidermal barrier proteins. Moreover, the combination of B. longum and GOS showed greater effects to improve DNCB-induced skin inflammation, abnormal TEWL, AD-like skin, serum IgE levels, IL-4 over-expression, and the deficiency of epidermal barrier proteins than the administration of B. longum alone. Conclusions: B. longum and GOS improve DNCB-induced skin barrier dysfunction and AD-like skin.

        A Study on Antibacterial REGULATIONS and Functional of Bamboo Fiber Pillow Cover

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the antibacterial properties of hemp fiber pillowcases, and af-ter analyzing the superiority of the hemp fiber pillowcases before and after use and through IPA, marketing plan for hemp fiber pillowcases applying the research results would like to propose. Method: In order to achieve this objective, a corresponding sample T-test and IP matrix were prepared to inves-tigate the difference between the antibacterial test and the functionality of bamboo fibers. Results: The research results and implications through empirical analysis are presented as follows. First, the an-tibacterial properties of bamboo fibers against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and pneumococcus are 99.9%, and it has been found that bamboo fiber is a material with excellent utility as a pillow cover, so it can be said that commercialization is possible. Second, as a result of the corresponding sample T-test, it was found that there were significant differences in convenience, hygiene, and fragrance in order to examine the difference in the functionality of bamboo fibers before and after use. This means that the hemp fiber pillow cover is highly hygienic with excellent single-use convenience and antibacterial properties, and the fragrance is an item that needs im-provement. Therefore, for commercialization, it is necessary to further develop convenience and hygiene and to conduct research and development to control fragrance. Third, among the functional items of the bamboo fiber pillow cover by IPA, ventilation, material, cleanliness, convenience, feel, hygiene, and dryness showed high satis-faction, and fragrance was found to be an item that needs improvement. Therefore, bamboo fiber is used as a pillow cover, and it can be said that it is a very suitable material in terms of antibacterial properties and function-ality. Conclusion: Therefore, bamboo fiber is used as a pillow cover, and it can be said that it is a very suitable mate-rial in terms of antibacterial properties and functionality.

      • A Study on Application of Student-Centered Flipped Learning: Focusing on Social Studies in a Korean 4th grade Elementary School Class

        This study aims at presenting the findings of a study on the development and application of student-centered flipped learning lesson plans in a Korean elementary school class. Towards this end, the lesson plans were constructed based upon steps and elements of the flipped learning model drawn from previous research and implemented in two fourth-grade social studies classes of 44 students. To delve into the effectiveness of the flipped learning model in social studies classes, we examined students`` perceptions of it and academic achievement. The Findings of this study indicated that students generally had a positive attitude towards classes using the flipped learning model compared with other classroom activities and acquired a deeper understanding of relevant concepts and knowledge taught during this study. The main results of the analysis of their perceptions were as follows: First, students appreciated that there was much more interaction between the teacher and students, between students and learning contents, and between classmates. Second, it was shown that students used similar to or somewhat much time to prepare for in-class activities and they felt that the time was meaningful. Third, they also appreciated the after class activities with regard to expansion of key concepts taught in classes were very meaningful. In addition, regarding the academic achievement, the students`` academic achievements after implementing the flipped learning classes were improved significantly. Furthermore, this research also discusses some implications for improving the flipped learning model.

        Hepatitis B virus X protein activates the ATM-Chk2 pathway and delays cell cycle progression

        <P>Genetic instability is intimately associated with tumour development. In particular, liver cancers associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) exhibit high genetic instability; however, our understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms remains limited. In this study, we found that γ-H2AX, a marker of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), and the levels of phospho-Chk2 (p-Chk2, the activated form) were significantly elevated in HBV-associated hepatocellular carcinomas and neighbouring regenerating nodules. Likewise, introduction of the pHBV or pMyc-HBx plasmids into cells induced accumulation of γ-H2AX foci and increased the p-Chk2 level. In these cells, inhibitory phosphorylation of Cdc25C phosphatase (Ser216) and CDK1 (Tyr15) was elevated; consequently, cell-cycle progression was delayed at G2/M phase, suggesting that activation of the ATM-Chk2 pathway by the HBV X protein (HBx) induces cell-cycle delay. Accordingly, inhibition of ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) by caffeine or siRNA abolished the increase in the p-Chk2 level and restored the delayed CDK1 kinase activity in ChangX cells. We also found that cytoplasmic HBx, but not nuclear HBx, induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and led to the accumulation of γ-H2AX foci and the increased p-Chk2 level. Together, these data indicate that HBx-induced ROS accumulation induces DNA damage that activates the ATM-Chk2 pathway. Our findings provide insight into the mechanisms of HBV pathogenesis.</P>

        Method development of phenolic acid profiling analysis as tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivative by gas chromatographytandem mass spectrometry

        An efficient gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry-based method using tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivative was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 10 phenolic acids. Under optimal conditions, linearity in the range of 2–100 ng/ml exhibited correlation coefficient (r) of ≥0.999. Repeatability showed low relative standard deviation of <16.7%, and accuracy (% relative error) varied from 9.8 to 3.4. New mass spectra data sets of 10 phenolic acids were constructed in multiple reaction monitoring mode. When applied to Orostachys japonica (Maxim.) A. Berger, the 10 phenolic acids of salicylic, 4-hydroxybenzoic, vanillic, m-coumaric, syringic, p-coumaric, protocatechuic, ferulic, gallic, and caffeic acids were positively identified. We believe that the devised method will be found useful for profiling phenolic acids in various plant samples.

        A Study on the Trends of Patents Concerning the Hair Loss Prevention and Improvement Technologies Using AI

        Purpose: In addition to congenital causes due to heredity, hair loss is caused by acquired causes such as aging, excessive stress, irregular eating habits, and smoking. The population of hair loss continues to increase every year, amounting to 10 million people, and the age at which the hair loss begins is gradually decreasing. As the interest and efforts for the improvement have increased, the market for the hair loss has also incrementally expanded. Method: In this study, the technologies related to the hair loss prevention and improvement are classified into the scalp nutrition supply(field A), scalp stimulation(field B), scalp washing(field C), and oral administration(field D), and by examining the trends in the application of the patents for such fields of technology(including utility model), this study sought to identify the potential for the development of technologies related to the hair loss prevention and improvement and fields which ought to be focused on the hair loss related technologies in the future. Results: Consequently, it was confirmed that active patent activities have continued for the hair loss prevention and improvement related technologies, and in particular, the intensive patent activities are conducted in the field of technologies related to the scalp washing. Conclusion: Accordingly, this study seeks to contribute to the facilitation of the hair loss prevention and im-provement related technology market and also expand the market by analyzing and understanding the trends of patents for the hair loss prevention and improvement related technologies and inducing the determination of the desirable directions for the research and development.

        대학생의 대학몰입에 영향을 미치는 변인 분석

        본 연구의 목적은 학령인구 급감과 COVID-19 시기 학업을 포기하고 대학을 떠나는 중도이탈 대학생 비율이 증가하는 우리나라 대학 위기의 상황에서 어떤 변인이 대학생의 대학몰입에 영향을 미치는지를 실증적으로 규명하는데 있다. 이를 위해 대학생의 인구통계학적인 배경변인과 유의미한 학습경험, 자기주도학습, 협력학습, 교수-학생 상호작용, 효과적 수업인식, 학업적 자기효능감, 교우관계, 지원적 대학환경, 진로성숙도가 이들의 대학몰입에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 검증하였다. 서울 소재 사립대학 S대학의 ‘2022년 학부교육 실태조사(K-NSSE)’에 참여한 재학생 625명의 응답을 분석하였고 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 두 독립집단 t-test와 일원분산분석(One-way ANOVA), 다중회귀분석(MRA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과 응답자의 배경변인 중에서는 1학년이 2학년보다, 수시 입학생이 정시 입학생보다, 특성화고 출신자가 일반고나 자율고 출신자보다 대학몰입이 높게 나타났다. 연구변인 가운데서는 교우관계, 효과적 수업에 대한 인식, 진로성숙도, 학업적 자기효능감, 지원적 대학환경 순으로 대학몰입에 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 연구결과를 토대로 대학생들이 만족감을 가지고 학업 및 대학생활에 전념할 수 있도록 대입 이전 경험에 입각한 지원방안 마련, 학내 교류활동 촉진 프로그램 강화, 다양한 멘토링 프로그램 강화 등 대학생의 대학몰입도 강화를 돕는 정책적 시사점을 논의하였다. The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the factors influencing college students' engagement in the context of the crisis in Korean universities. To achieve this, the study verifies the influence of demographic background variables, significant learning experiences, self-directed learning, collaborative learning, faculty-student interaction, perceived effective teaching, academic self-efficacy, friendships, supportive college environment, and career maturity affect their college engagement. The study analyzed the responses of 625 students participating in the “2022 Undergraduate Education Survey (K-NSSE)” conducted at S University, a private university in Seoul. Two independent samples t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis (MRA) were conducted to accomplish the research objectives. The results of the study showed that among the demographic variables, first-year students exhibited higher levels of engagement compared to second-year students, early admission students showed higher engagement than regular admission students, and students from specialized high schools demonstrated higher engagement compared to students from general or autonomous high schools. Based on the findings, the discussion focused on policy implications such as developing support measures based on pre-college admission experiences to enhance students' satisfaction and dedication to their studies and college life, strengthening programs that promote on-campus exchange activities, and enhancing various mentoring programs to foster greater college student engagement.
