( Uk Jung ),( Chang-hwa Baek ),( Shin-won Seo ),( Sung-uk Lim ) 한국품질경영학회 2015 한국품질경영학회 학술대회 Vol.2015 No.2

Purpose: Many CEOs have often introduced various types of management innovation for the firm``s profitability improvement. If the firm is, however, in a situation in which the firm is not ready to adopt those management innovations, it is not possible to achieve the goal of profit enhancement. In this study, we analyze the relationship between the preliminary elements of management innovation and profitability, and want to introduce the key success factors of management innovation. Methodology/Approach: After investigating preliminary elements of the management innovation adoption through existing literature review, we conducted a questionnaire survey to Korean K-company. Then, by utilizing the structural equation modeling with AMOS, we analyzed the impact of preliminary elements of the management innovation adoption on the profitability. Findings: We found out that there are main preliminary elements of the management innovation adoption directed to profitability enhancement From this finding, it would be possible to assist promoting successful management innovation of the company. Research Limitation/implication: This research has a limitation on that the findings are based on the analysis with subjective measures rather than objective ones for profitability. There is a need for further studies using objective measures such as an actual percentage figure for sales growth or profit change. Originality/Value of paper: By searching and enhancing the preliminary elements of management innovation affecting the profitability, it would be possible to reduce the innovation failure in the future business.

Distortion of the Bottom Surface in Micro Cavity Machining Using MEDM

Lim Jong Hoon,Je Sung Uk,Ryu Shi Hyoung,Chu Chong Nam Korean Society for Precision Engineering 2005 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.6 No.4

As mechanical components are miniaturized, the demands on micro die/mold are increasing. Micro mechanical components usually have high hardness and good conductivity. Micro electrical discharge machining (MEDM) can thus be an effective way to machine those components. In micro cavity fabrication using MEDM, it is observed that the bottom surface of the cavity is distorted. Electric charges tend to be concentrated at the sharp edge, and debris cannot be drawn off easily at the center of the bottom surface. These two phenomena make the bottom surface of electrode and workpiece distort. As machining depth increases, the distorted shape of the electrode approaches hemisphere. This process is affected by both capacitance and the size of electrode. By using a smaller electrode than the desired cavity size and appropriate tool movement, bottom shape distortion can be prevented.

Oxygen reduction reaction on electrodeposited PtAu alloy catalysts in the presence of phosphoric acid

        Lim, Ji-Eun,Lee, Uk Jae,Ahn, Sang Hyun,Cho, EunAe,Kim, Hyoung-Juhn,Jang, Jong Hyun,Son, Hyungbin,Kim, Soo-Kil Elsevier 2015 Applied Catalysis B Vol.165 No.-

Abstract

We have investigated phosphate adsorption on the Au surface by in situ electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy to assess the possible use of Au-based alloys as catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Compared with its strong adsorption in neutral or basic electrolytes, the adsorption of phosphate species on the Au surface were significantly altered in acidic electrolyte. Thus, Pt x Au 100-x catalysts of various compositions were prepared by electrodeposition and exhibited better ORR activities than pure Pt in phosphoric acid electrolyte, which can be explained in terms of alloying effects and the different phosphate adsorption behavior.

Highlights

Phosphate adsorption on Au substrate was investigated by in situ EC-SERS.

Under acidic condition, Au has strong tolerance to phosphate species adsorption.

ORR activities of electrodeposited PtAu alloys were tested in the presence of PA.

PtAu catalysts exhibited better ORR activity than pure Pt in the presence of PA.

        Lim, Jae-Sung,Oh, Mi Sun,Lee, Ju-Hun,Jung, San,Kim, Chulho,Jang, Min Uk,Lee, Sang-Hwa,Kim, Yeo Jin,Kim, Yerim,Park, Jaeseol,Kang, Yeonwook,Yu, Kyung-Ho,Lee, Byung-Chul Cambridge University Press 2017 INTERNATIONAL PSYCHOGERIATRICS - Vol.29 No.5

        ABSTRACTBackground:
The National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke-Canadian Stroke Network (NINDS-CSN) 5-minute neuropsychology protocol consists of only verbal tasks, and is proposed as a brief screening method for vascular cognitive impairment. We evaluated its feasibility within two weeks after stroke and ability to predict the development of post-stroke dementia (PSD) at 3 months after stroke.
Method:
We prospectively enrolled subjects with ischemic stroke within seven days of symptom onset who were consecutively admitted to 12 university hospitals. Neuropsychological assessments using the NINDS-CSN 5-minute and 60-minute neuropsychology protocols were administered within two weeks and at 3 months after stroke onset, respectively. PSD was diagnosed with reference to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association statement, requiring deficits in at least two cognitive domains.
Results:
Of 620 patients, 512 (82.6%) were feasible for the NINDS-CSN 5-minute protocol within two weeks after stroke. The incidence of PSD was 16.2% in 308 subjects who had completed follow-up at 3 months after stroke onset. The total score of the NINDS-CSN 5-minute protocol differed significantly between those with and without PSD (4.0 ± 2.7, 7.4 ± 2.7, respectively; p < 0.01). A cut-off value of 6/7 showed reasonable discriminative power (sensitivity 0.82, specificity 0.67, AUC 0.74). The NINDS-CSN 5-minute protocol score was a significant predictor for PSD (adjusted odds ratio 6.32, 95% CI 2.65-15.05).
Discussion:
The NINDS-CSN 5-minute protocol is feasible to evaluate cognitive functions in patients with acute ischemic stroke. It might be a useful screening method for early identification of high-risk groups for PSD.

        Lim, Jae-Sung,Kim, Nayoung,Jang, Min Uk,Han, Moon-Ku,Kim, SangYun,Baek, Min Jae,Jang, Myung Suk,Ban, Byeolnim,Kang, Yeonwook,Kim, Dong-Eog,Lee, Ji Sung,Lee, Juneyoung,Lee, Byung-Chul,Yu, Kyung-Ho,Blac American Heart Association, Inc. 2014 Stroke Vol.45 No.4

Background and Purpose—

A role of neural networks in the development of poststroke dementia has not been clearly established. We hypothesized that stroke-mediated disruption of subcortical cholinergic pathway or large-scale neural networks contributes to poststroke dementia.

Methods—

A matched case–control study was conducted in a predetermined cohort with acute ischemic stroke. Cases were defined as newly developed dementia diagnosed >3 months after stroke using the Korean Vascular Cognitive Impairment Harmonization Standards. Each case was matched to 2 controls for age, education, and initial stroke severity. The Cholinergic Pathways HyperIntensities Scale was applied with some modifications to characterize disruption of cholinergic pathways by acute stroke lesions. Involvement of major cortical hub locations of the default mode network, central executive network, and salience network was also investigated.

Results—

After matching, 38 cases and 66 matched controls were included. Cholinergic Pathways HyperIntensities Scale scores were significantly higher in cases than in controls (2.2±2.9 versus 0.9±1.4). Acute ischemic lesions affecting the default mode and central executive networks were more frequently observed in cases compared with controls (36.8% versus 7.6% and 26.3% versus 6.1%, respectively). These findings remained significant in the multiple logistic regression models adjusted for various sets of potential confounders. Lesion location analysis revealed that cases were more likely to have acute lesions in the left corona radiata, hippocampal formation, and posterior parietal cortex.

Conclusions—

Disruption of cholinergic pathways and major hubs of large-scale neural networks might contribute to newly developed dementia after acute ischemic stroke.

Regional Cortical Thickness and Subcortical Volume Changes Are Associated with Cognitive Impairments in the Drug-Naive Patients with Late-Onset Depression

        Lim, Hyun Kook,Jung, Won Sang,Ahn, Kook Jin,Won, Wang Youn,Hahn, Changtae,Lee, Seung Yup,Kim, InSeong,Lee, Chang Uk American College of Neuropsychopharmacology 2012 Neuropsychopharmacology Vol.37 No.3

Previous studies have shown an association between late-onset depression (LOD) and cognitive impairment in older adults. However, the neural correlates of this relationship are not yet clear. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in both cortical thickness and subcortical volumes between drug-naive LOD patients and healthy controls and explore the relationship between LOD and cognitive impairments. A total of 48 elderly, drug-naive patients with LOD and 47 group-matched healthy control subjects underwent 3T MRI scanning, and the cortical thickness was compared between the groups in multiple locations, across the continuous cortical surface. The subcortical volumes were also compared on a structure-by-structure basis. Subjects with LOD exhibited significantly decreased cortical thickness in the rostral anterior cingulate cortex, the medial orbitofrontal cortex, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, the superior and middle temporal cortex, and the posterior cingulate cortex when compared with healthy subjects (all p<0.05, false discovery rate corrected). Reduced volumes of the right hippocampus was also observed in LOD patients when compared with healthy controls (p<0.001). There were significant correlations between memory functions and cortical thickness of medial temporal, isthmus cingulate, and precuneus (p<0.001). This study was the first study to explore the relationships between the cortical thickness/subcortical volumes and cognitive impairments of drug-naive patients with LOD. These structural changes might explain the neurobiological mechanism of LOD as a risk factor of dementia.
