<B>Graphic Abstract</B> <P>The cover shows an image of fully rollable transparent nanogenerators synthesized using chemical vapor deposition grown large-scale graphene sheets as transparent electrodes and piezoelectric ZnO nanorod arrays. Sang-Woo Kim, Jae-Young Choi, and co-workers report on p. 2187 the electrical and structural stability of the nanogenerators, with excellent charge scavenging performance under external mechanical loads such as bending and rolling. Experiments were conducted to investigated the change of primary dormancy and viability of Chinese milk vetch(CMV) seed buried in soil both as seed and pod with seeds under CMV-rice cropping system during the period of 2007~2009. The freshly harvested CMV seed alone and pods with seeds were buried in rice field at 0, 5 and 10cm depths and determined change of seed dormancy and viability at one to three month intervals for 10 months. The CMV seed had high dormancy of 95%, showing only 4~5% germination at the beginning in June but the seed dormancy was gradually broken at rice harvest time in autumn, showing 25 to 35% for seed and 55 to 61% for pod with seeds. The viability loss was faster in the seed than in the pod with seeds regardless of depths of placement in the soil base on decayed seeds. Also the seed placed on the soil surface lost viability faster than the 5~10 burial depths. However, appreciable number of CMV seeds still remained at even 4 months after burial in soil. These results indicate that seed dormancy was enable CMV plant to regenerate naturally from the remained soil seed bank at rice harvest time in autumn.

The infection of liver flukes, Clonorchis sinensis (CS) and Opisthorchis viverrini (OV), has been known as a risk factor to induce cholangiocellular carcinoma (CCC) in human living in the endemic area, providing promoting effect on the liver initiated by chemical carcinogens. The present study evaluated the relationship between the dosage level of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) and the infection load of CS in the neoplastic development by histopathological examination of the treated hamsters. To evaluate the effects of DMN, different doses of DMN ranging from 0 to 25 ppm were administered to hamsters with 20 CS metacercariea. For the risk assessment of the infection load, 0, 5, 15, 50 CS metacercariae were respectively infected with 12 ppm DMN. The mortality was closely related to the infection load rather than the concentration of DMN. The infection of CS clearly promoted the induction of CCC even at dose level of 6 ppm DMN. Only five metacercariae were enough to promote CCC induction at the concentration of 12 ppm DMN.

An 8 month-old male Maltese (weighing 2.0 kg) was referred with loud heart murmur at routine physicalexam in local animal clinic. Electrocardiogram found left ventricular hypertrophy pattern (4.5 mV R-wave). Diagnosticimaging studies revealed the elongation of left ventricle (LV) with classic triple bumps on the main pulmonary artery,aorta and left atrium on the ventrodorsal view of radiograph. Echocardiography revealed patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)duct and continuous turbulent shunt flow (maximal velocity 4.83 m/s) between the aorta and pulmonary artery withleft to right direction. The PDA in this dog was successfully closed through femoral vein (transvenous approach) usinga 5 mm Amplatz® Canine Duct Occluder. To the best of author’s knowledge, this is the first case of PDA occlusiontreated with Amplatz Canine Duct Occluder through femoral vein.
Retroperitoneal fibrosis in the era of immunoglobulin G4-related disease

Background: Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare disease characterized by fibroinflammatory tissue in the periaortic or periiliac retroperitoneum, where it frequently encases ureters. There is emerging evidence that a subset of this disease is part of a spectrum of multisystemic autoimmune diseases collectively referred to as “immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related disease”. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 27 idiopathic RPF patients and identified a subset as IgG4-related RPF, which we categorized according to recently published comprehensive diagnostic criteria. We compared clinical and laboratory characteristics and response to treatment between the two groups. Results: Of 27 total patients, 16 (59.3%) were diagnosed as having IgG4-related RPF, and these were predominantly male. They were also significantly older and more likely to have other organ involvement, hydronephrosis, and postrenal acute kidney injury (AKI) compared to those with idiopathic RPF. However, there was no difference in response rate to systemic steroid treatment. Conclusion: IgG4-related RPF accounts for a substantial portion of RPF cases previously identified as “idiopathic RPF” in Korea. Clinical and laboratory characteristics of IgG4-related RPF are similar to those of idiopathic RPF except for a striking male predominance, older age, and higher incidence of postrenal AKI in IgG4-related RPF. More comprehensive, prospective studies are needed to clearly distinguish IgG4-related RPF from idiopathic RPF based on clinical manifestation and to further assess treatment response and long-term prognosis.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bi-Te based materials have been used for near-room-temperature thermoelectric applications. However, their properties dramatically decrease at high temperatures (over 100 °C), limiting their use in power generation. In this study, we investigated the enhanced thermoelectric properties of Bi-Te based materials by Cu doping and employing the melt-spinning (MS) process that can be utilized especially at elevated temperatures. By changing the doping amount, we could modulate the temperature dependence of thermoelectric properties, where the maximum ZT temperature could be shifted from room temperature to 450 K. The highest ZT value, 1.34, was achieved at 400 K for 2% Cu-doped Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>, which is due to the enhancement in power factor and reduction in lattice thermal conductivity. The average ZT value between room temperature and 530 K was 1.17 for 2% Cu-doped Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>, which is 46% higher than that of pristine Bi<SUB>0.5</SUB>Sb<SUB>1.5</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>. Consequently, the synergetic effect of MS process and Cu incorporation can be a promising method to widen the application of Bi-Te based thermoelectric materials for mid-temperature power generation.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>The combined effect of melt-spinning process and Cu incorporation gives to widen Bi-Te-based thermoelectric materials for mid-temperature power generation.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
