A 10-year-old intact female Miniature Schnauzer dog was referred with the primary complaint of persistentanorexia, remittent fever, vomiting and abdominal pain. Hemogram suggested a chronic inflammatory disease. Serumbiochemistry showed moderate hepatobiliary cellular damage with severe cholestasis. Abdominal radiography andultrasonography revealed hepatomegaly, choleliths and sludges in gall bladder and small stones in urinary bladder. Basedcholecystectomy and cystectomy, choleliths and uroliths were removed from gall bladder and urinary bladder,respectively. The clinical condition was dramatically improved after surgery.
Radiographic diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia:review of 60 cases in dogs and cats

Sixty cases of diaphragmatic hernia in dogs and cats were radiologically reviewed and categorized by their characteristic radiographic signs. Any particular predilection for age, sex, or breed was not observed. Liver, stomach and small intestine were more commonly herniated. At least two radiographs, at different angles, were required for a valid diagnosis, because some radiographic signs were not visible in a single radiographic view and more clearly detectable in two radiographic views. In addition to previously reported radiographic signs for diaphragmatic hernia, we found that the location of the stomach axis and the displacement of tracheal and bronchial segments were also useful radiographic signs.

The microstructure and mechanical property degradation of a gas turbine SEV burner made of the nickel-based superalloy Inconel 738LC were investigated with increasing operation times in the range of 24000-65000 equivalent number of operating hours (EOH). The original cuboidal shape of γ? particles with a size of 400-500 nm became spherical with a diameter larger than 1 μm. The γ? coarsening kinetics conformed well to the LSW model suggesting that the variation of r³as a function of exposure time is linear. In the hottest zone of the SEV burner operated for 65000 EOH, a continuous film of carbides along the grain boundaries was observed as a result of the transformation of MC carbide to M_23C_6+γThis continuous film of M_23C_6 carbides provided a preferential site for intergranular crack initiation and propagation during tensile testing, and reduced accordingly the alloy ductility, whereas it was favorable to tensile strength.
A Study on the Formation of Serrated Grain Boundaries and its Applications in Nimonic 263

<P>The formation of serrated grain boundaries and its subsequent effect on creep resistance have been investigated in a wrought nickel based superalloy Nimonic 263. The grain boundaries were considerably serrated without the presence of γ' phases or M23C6 when a specimen was slow-cooled from the solution treatment temperature. The high resolution observation on the lattice image of the serrated grain boundary suggested that the grain boundaries tended to serrate to have specific segments approaching to one {111} low-index plane at a boundary in order to have lower interfacial free energy of grain boundary. The grain boundary serration led to a change in M23C6 carbide characteristics: the carbide morphology from granular to planar, a lowered density and their coherency pattern to two neighboring grains from consistent to zigzag. The improvement of creep resistance was noticeably observed by the introduction of GB serration without deterioration of basic mechanical properties. This improvement in creep resistance by the serration was associated with a lower rate of cavitation and crack propagation through the modification of carbide characteristics as well as grain boundary configuration.</P>

The tensile and creep behaviors of Alloy 263, which is a wrought Ni-base superalloy used for gas turbine combustion systems, was studied. Anomalous increase of yield strength and abrupt decrease of elongation with increasing temperature were observed after tensile testing at an intermediate temperature. Elongation of the superalloy decreased as the temperature increased to and above 540℃, and it reached a minimum value at 760℃. It was found that creep strain was also very low at the same temperature. Inhomogeneous deformation with intensive slip bands was observed in the specimens tested at low temperature. A thermally-assisted dislocation climb process was regularly conducted at high temperature. Twinning was found to be an important mechanism of both tensile and creep deformations of the superalloy at an intermediate temperature where ductility minimum was observed.
Postobstructive Pulmonary Edema in a Yorkshire Terrier Dog

A 6 month-old castrated male Yorkshire terrier (weighing 1.0 kg) was presented with acute respiratory distress. Diagnostic imaging studies found post-obstructive pulmonary edema sequel to upper airway obstruction by a rubber plug lodged at thoracic esophagus. The rubber plug was removed endoscopically. After removal of this rubber plug with conventional therapy for pulmonary edema, the clinical condition of dog was stabilized. To the best knowledge of authors, this is the first case report describing postobstructive pulmonary edema in a dog in Korea.
Mitral Valve Dysplasia in a Maltese Dog

A four month-old intact female Maltese (weighing 1.8 kg) was present with major complaints of severecoughing and dyspnea. Diagnostic imaging studies revealed abnormally elongated chordae tendineae attached to anteriorleaflet and shortened chordae tendineae attached to posterior leaflet of mitral valve causing mitral insufficiency andregurgitant blood flow into left atrium, indicating congenital mitral valve dysplasia. Therapy was directed to controlexisting clinical signs and to prevent further deterioration of cardiac enlargement using conventional cardiac medications. The dog is currently survived and being monitored at regular interval. This is the first case report describing mitralvalve dysplasia causing mitral insufficiency of dog in Korea.
