This study was performed to measure the skin absorbed doses from full mouth standard intraoral radiography(14 exposures) in bisecting angle and paralleling techniques. Thermoluminescent dosimeters were used in a phantom. Circular tube collimator(60mm in diameter, 20cm in length) and rectangular collimator(35mmX44mm, 40cm in length) were set for bisecting angle and paralleling techniques respectively. All measurement sites were classified into 8 groups according to distance from each point of central rays. The results were as follows: 1. The skin absorbed doses from the paralleling technique were significantly decreased than those from the bisecting technique in both points at central ray and points away from central ray. The percentage rates of decrease were greater at points away from central ray than those at central ray. 2. The skin absorbed doses at the lens of eye, parotid gland, submandibular gland and thyroid region were significantly decreased in paralleling techniuqe, but those of the midline of palate remained similar in both techniques. 3. The highest doses were measured at the site 20mm above the point of central ray for the mandibular premolars in bisecting angle technique and at the point of central ray for the mandibular premolars in paralleling techniques. The lowest doses were measured at the thyroid region in both techniques.

Objectives:The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the clinical and demographic variables such as body weight, dosage, family history of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and psychiatric co-morbidity on the side-effects of OROS-Methylphenidate (OROS-MPH), and to evaluate the relationship between drug response and side effect severity. Methods:A total of 144 children (ages 6-18) with diagnosed ADHD were treated with OROS-MPH. Children were examined at baseline and after 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 weeks of each treatment condition. The stimulant drug side effect rating scale (SERS), pulse rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and electrocardiogram (ECG) were evaluated to assess side effect profiles. Changes in these parameters from baseline were examined and analyzed. Results:Anorexia (30.95%) and insomnia (13.10%) were the most commonly reported side effects during this study. Insomnia and loss of appetite score increased at one week follow-up, but was sustained or decreased as treatment progressed. Small but significant increases in pulse rate and diastolic blood pressure were observed during treatment;however, no clinically meaningful changes in ECG parameters were noted during the study. Low body weight, high dosage of OROS-MPH, and family history of ADHD were associated with cardiovascular side effect. In contrast, there was no significant relationship between OROS-MPH treatment response and the severity of side effect and no difference resulted between the responder and non-responder groups with respect to OROS-MPH dosage in the 12 weeks of follow-up. Conclusion:To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first Korean study to investigate comprehensive side effect profiles and their correlates in OROS-MPH treatment for ADHD children. OROS-MPH was well tolerated with no clinically significant side effects during the treatment period. In conclusion, low body weight, high dosage of OROSMPH, and family history of ADHD could be used as predictive factors in increasing pulse rate and blood pressure.
Liriodenine Inhibits Dopamine Biosynthesis and L-DOPA-Induced Dopamine Content in PC12 Cells
Jin, Chun-Mei,Lee, Jae-Joon,Yang, Yoo-Jung,Kim, Yu-Mi,Kim, Young-Kyoon,Ryu, Shi-Yong,Lee, Myung-Koo 대한약학회 2007 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.30 No.8
The inhibitory effects of liriodenine, an aporphine isoquinoline alkaloid, on dopamine biosynthesis and L-DOPA-induced dopamine content increases in PC12 cells were investigated. Treatment of PC12 cells with 5-10 ${\mu}M$ liriodenine significantly decreased the intracellular dopamine content in a concentration-dependent manner ($IC_{50}$ value, 8.4 ${\mu}M$). Liriodenine was not cytotoxic toward PC12 cells at concentrations up to 20 ${\mu}M$. Tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) activities were inhibited by 10 ${\mu}M$ liriodenine to 20-70% and 10-14% of control levels at 3-12 h, respectively; TH activity was more influenced than AADC activity. The levels of TH mRNA, intracellular cyclic AMP and basal $Ca^{2+}$ concentration were also decreased by 10 ${\mu}M$ liriodenine. In addition, 10 ${\mu}M$ liriodenine reduced L-DOPA (20-100 ${\mu}M$)-induced increases in dopamine content. However, 10 ${\mu}M$ liriodenine resulted in a protective effect against L-DOPA (50-100 ${\mu}M$)-induced cytotoxicity. These results suggest that liriodenine regulates dopamine biosynthesis by partially reducing TH activity and TH gene expression and has protective effects against L-DOPA-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells.
Bioinspired Synthesis of Chiral 3,4-Dihydropyranones via S-to-O Acyl-Transfer Reactions

<P>A bioinspired synthesis of chiral 3,4-dihydropyranones via S-to-O acyl-transfer reactions is described. Asymmetric Michael addition-lactonization reactions of β,γ-unsaturated α-keto esters with thioesters are catalyzed by proline-derived urea, providing 3,4-dihydropyranones and spiro-3,4-dihydrocoumarin-fused 3′,4′-dihydropyranones in high yield (up to 94%) with excellent stereoselectivities (up to >20:1 dr, 99% <I>ee</I>) under catalyst loadings as low as 1 mol %.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

<P>The effects of GM-/G-CSF and darbepoetin-α on stem cell mobilization were investigated. From February 2005 to March 2007, 30 allogeneic sibling donors were randomly assigned to a G-CSF group (5 μg/kg/day for 5–7 days) or triple group (GM-CSF 10 μg/kg/day on 1st and 2nd day, G-CSF 5 μg/kg/day for 5–7 days, and darbepoetin-α 40 mg on 1st day). The MNCs and CD34+ cells were not different between the two groups, although the doses (×108/kg of recipient body weight) of CD3+ cells (3.64 ± 1.75 vs. 2.63 ± 1.36, P = 0.089) and CD8+ cells (1.07 ± 0.53 vs. 0.60 ± 0.30, P = 0.006) were lower in the triple group. The engraftments, frequency of RBC transfusions, and hemoglobin recovery were not different between the two groups. The cumulative incidence of overall and Grades II–IV aGVHD was 64.3% vs. 61.1% and 25.9% vs. 27.1% in the G-CSF and triple regimen group, respectively, whereas the cumulative incidence of cGVHD was 20.8 ± 1.3% and 24.4 ± 1.7%, respectively. In conclusion, the triple regimen did not seem to be superior to G-CSF alone in terms of the CD34+ cell dose, hemoglobin recovery, and GVHD. However, the CD8+ cell count was significantly lower in the triple regimen group. The role of a lower CD8+ cell count in the graft may need to be elucidated in the future. J. Clin.
