Purpose The objective of this study was to design a fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet with minimal interaction of valsartan, amlodipine, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe to improve medication compliance in patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia and to evaluate its feasibility for development through in vitro dissolution test and pharmacokinetic assessment in humans. Methods The formulation was designed as a bilayer FDC tablet to minimize the interaction of the four drugs based on the results of drug‒drug interaction evaluations in which the drugs were mixed and exposed at 50 °C for 4 weeks. The FDC tablet was then evaluated against the reference listed drug (RLD) products, Exforge® tablet 10/160 mg and Rosuzet® tablet 10/20 mg, through in vitro dissolution studies and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in humans. Results The in vitro release profiles of valsartan, rosuvastatin and ezetimibe were similar to those of the RLD products. Although the Cmax of ezetimibe in the FDC tablet was slightly higher, there were no significant differences in the area under the plasma drug concentration–time curve (AUC). There were also no notable discrepancies in the Cmax and AUC of the other three drugs. Furthermore, the absence of statistically significant variations in the frequency of adverse events and the lack of serious adverse reactions indicate a comparable safety profile between the FDC and RLD tablets. Conclusion The feasibility of bilayer FDC tablet formulation to improve medication compliance in patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia was demonstrated.

<P>Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) were used to transfer gene into umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UCB-MSCs) in this study. This novel transfection method using SPION is safe and effective to UCB-MSCs, and would be a tool for genetic optimization with a significant potential for cell tracing.</P>

<P>Thermostable esterases have potential applications in various biotechnology industries because of their resistance to high temperature and organic solvents. In a previous study, we isolated an esterase from Archaeoglobus fulgidus DSM 4304 (Est-AF), which showed high thermostability but low enantioselectivity toward (S)-ketoprofen ethyl ester. (R)-ketoprofenor (S)-ketoprofenis produced by esterase hydrolysis of the ester bond of (R,S)-ketoprofen ethyl ester and (S)-ketoprofen has better pharmaceutical activity and lower side effects than (R)-ketoprofen. Therefore, we have generated mutants of Est-AF that retained high thermostability whilst improving enantioselectivity. A library of Est-AF mutants was created by error-prone polymerase chain reaction, and mutants with improved enantioselectivity were isolated by site-saturation mutagenesis. The regions of Est-AF containing amino acid mutations were analyzed by homology modeling of its three-dimensional structure, and structure-based explanations for the changes in enantioselectivity are proposed. Finally, we isolated two mutants showing improved enantioselectivity over Est-AF (ee%?=?-16.2??0.2 and E?=?0.7??0.0): V138G (ee%?=?35.9??1.0 and E?=?3.0??0.1) and V138G/L200R (ee%?=?89.2??0.2 and E?=?19.5??0.5). We also investigated various characteristics of these mutants and found that the mutants showed similar thermostability and resistance to additives or organic solvents to Est-AF, without a significant trade-off between activity and stability.</P>
Evaluation of renewable energy power generation in Korea

The rise of public interests in renewable energy causes the rapid expansion of power generation from renewable sources in Korea. In this paper, using discount flow techniques and real option approaches, we examined the future consumer benefits from adopting renewable power generators as the alternative power source. Among many alternative energy options prospects can chose, the case of Photovoltaic technology (PV) based generator is carefully examined since PV generators are the most widely adopted and popular choice in Korea. Through applying the model into an ongoing project in Korea, a viability of the PV based power generator for the residential purpose is verified and possible policies to increase a residential user of a PV generator at the present stage are suggested.

디자인 패턴과 안티 패턴의 원리는 혼합되어 사용되어진다. 디자인 패턴은 소프트웨어 품질에 대하여 공격적인 예방치료에 목적을 두며, 안티 패턴은 품질 이슈에 대하여 체계적인 진단을 수행하는 것이다. 품질에 대한 국제 표준으로는 ISO/IEC 9126, ISO/IEC 12119등이 있다. 최근에는 이러한 품질에 관련된 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 디자인 패턴과 안티 패턴에 대한 연구과 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현재 대표적으로 사용되어지는 디자인 패턴과 안티 패턴을 ISO/IEC 9126의 품질 특성별로 분류하고 이들간의 상호 연관성에 대하여 연구하였다.
