Background: Obesity-induced dyslipidemia is one of the main factors contributing to morbidity and mortality associated with metabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis, and coronary artery disease among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Objectives: This research aimed to assess the effect of adding laser acupuncture therapy (LAT) to a Pilates exercise program (PEP) and low-calorie diet protocol (LCDP) on blood lipids among 60 obese women with SLE. Methods: Study participants were women aged between 23 and 49 years, randomly assigned to one of two groups, A or B, each comprising 30 women. In addition to adherence to the LCDP, both groups were supervised five times weekly during 50-minute PEP sessions. Group A also received LAT three times weekly, with each session lasting 2 minutes on selected acupoints. After the 12-week intervention, plasma total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein were assessed. Results: Both groups demonstrated significant improvement in the aforementioned lipids after the 12-week intervention. A comparison between the post-intervention values of the lipids in the groups revealed a significant improvement favoring group A (the group that received LAT). Conclusion: Adding a 12-week LAT regimen to PEP and LCDP significantly improved lipid profiles among 60 obese women with SLE.

Natural fiber composites have great potential for reducing the product cost, lowering weight and enhancing renewability. Functionality and performance of natural fibers can be enhanced many folds using them together with synthetic fibers. Hybridization of carbon and low-cost natural jute fiber offers a sustainable hybrid composite having high modulus and mechanical strength. This study investigates flexural behavior of carbon/jute epoxy composites experimentally and numerically. Also, impact response is characterized through drop weight method. Study concludes that flexural strength decreases with increase in jute percentage. Simulation of flexural behavior diverges more than 10 % from experimental results. This anomaly is due to waviness of fiber resulting in heterogeneous property distribution in composites. Further, the fracto-graphic study revealed modes of failure. The drop weight impact tests reveal increased damage area with increase in jute percentage.

Using state observer has attracted a notable interest of researchers in the control community to provide an on-line state estimator for control systems instead of measuring them physically by sensors which is costly, inaccurate, and easy to contaminate by noise. Some challenges ahead to design state observer in control systems are using estimated data by an observer in the designed controller as well as the system stability analysis by using controller and observer simultaneously. This paper proposes the Fuzzy Adaptive Fixed-time Sliding Mode Control(FAFSMC) technique for trajectory tracking of a class of high-order nonlinear systems with mismatched external disturbances and uncertainties. Meanwhile, the fixed-time state observer is proposed to incorporate with the controller for estimating the unmeasured even states (velocity) and providing on-line data in the controller. A proper candidate Lyapunov function is defined to verify the system’s global fixed-time stability by considering designed control law, state observer term, and adaptive law, simultaneously. The simulation results of three simulation examples, ship course system, two-link robotic manipulator, and three-link robotic manipulator, are carried out in Simulink/MATLAB to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed FAFSMC scheme compared with the other three conventional methods for solving trajectory tracking problem. Two performance criteria, Integral of the Square Value (ISV) and Integral of the Absolute value of the Error (IAE), are used to make a comprehensive comparison among the proposed FAFSMC method with state observer and the other three methods.

Intracellular synthesis of silver/silver chloride nanoparticles (Ag/AgCl-NPs) using Meyerozyma guilliermondii KX008616 is reported under aerobic and anaerobic conditions for the first time. The biogenic synthesis of Ag-NP types has been proposed as an easy and cost-effective alternative for various biomedical applications. The interaction of nanoparticles with ethanol production was mentioned. The purified biogenic Ag/AgCl-nanoparticles were characterized by different spectroscopic and microscopic approaches. The purified nanoparticles exhibited a surface plasmon resonance band at 419 and 415 nm, confirming the formation of Ag/AgCl-NPs under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively. The planes of the cubic crystalline phase of the Ag/AgCl-NPs were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Fourier-transform infrared spectra showed the interactions between the yeast cell constituents and silver ions to form the biogenic Ag/AgCl-NPs. The intracellular Ag/AgCl-NPs synthesized under aerobic condition were homogenous and spherical in shape, with an approximate particle size of 2.5-30nm as denoted by the transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The reaction mixture was optimized by varying reaction parameters, including temperature and pH. Analysis of ultrathin sections of yeast cells by TEM indicated that the biogenic nanoparticles were formed as clusters, known as nanoaggregates, in the cytoplasm or in the inner and outer regions of the cell wall. The study recommends using the biomass of yeast that is used in industrial or fermentation purposes to produce Ag/AgCl-NPs as associated by-products to maximize benefit and to reduce the production cost.

This paper aims to indicate the role of alloying composition on the nanomechanical properties of metallic glasses (MGs). Forthis purpose, the molecular dynamics simulation of nanoindentation process was performed for a wide range of Cu–Zr glassycompositions. The results indicated that the yielding event enhanced with the rise of Cu content; however, there existed anoptimized composition for the maximum hardening effect in the system. The investigation on the evolution of shear bandsalso showed that the formation of pile-ups around the indentation site and the propagation of dominant shear bands into theglassy structure occurred in the Cu-rich MGs. On the other side, the increase in Zr content led to the creation of a net-likeshear arrangement under the indented site. Moreover, the Voronoi tessellation analysis indicated that the decreasing/increasingrate of polyhedron types during the indenting process strongly relied on the alloying compositions.
A Reconfigurable Controller for Testing On-Chip Voltage Converters
Saad Arslan,Syed Asmat Ali Shah,HyungWon Kim 대한전자공학회 2018 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.6
When testing on-chip voltage converters driving on chip loads, the use of external loads and control signal generation is not a feasible. External loads add unwanted parasitics while externally generated signals experience varying delays. To overcome these problems, on-chip reconfigurable control signal generation and load is needed. In this paper, a flexible on-chip controller is presented to test integrated voltage converters. The controller when accompanied by reconfigurable load circuit offers a comprehensive solution. Additionally, the controller is programmable through SPI for easy switching between test scenarios. Synopsys design platform is used for synthesis, Place and Route (PNR), and simulations. PNR simulations verify the controller"s SPI interface and control signal generation at 50 Hz clock frequency.

As a nondestructive testing method, the Schmidt rebound hammer is widely used for structural health monitoring. During application, a Schmidt hammer hits the surface of a concrete mass. According to the principle of rebound, concrete strength depends on the hardness of the concrete energy surface. Study aims to identify the main variables affecting the results of Schmidt rebound hammer reading and consequently the results of structural health monitoring of concrete structures using adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The ANFIS process for variable selection was applied for this purpose. This procedure comprises some methods that determine a subsection of the entire set of detailed factors, which present analytical capability. ANFIS was applied to complete a flexible search. Afterward, this method was applied to conclude how the five main factors (namely, age, silica fume, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, and water) used in designing concrete mixture influence the Schmidt rebound hammer reading and consequently the structural health monitoring accuracy. Results show that water is considered the most significant parameter of the Schmidt rebound hammer reading. The details of this study are discussed thoroughly.
An Improved Algorithm for AC Impedance Extraction
Muhammad Saad,Yongfeng Ju,Shahbaz Khan,Husan Ali,Abdul Wadood,Sang Bong Rhee 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.6
The overall system stability of interconnected electrical and electronic systems is associated with the input and output impedances of each individual system, therefore, accurate AC impedance measurement for a linear and nonlinear systems are imperative. These impedances are normally measured using small-signal frequency injection techniques. However, the harmonic transfers from the output side to the input side and vice versa deteriorates the measured results, making them ambiguous. These harmonic transfers cause the problems of frequency aliasing as well as spectral leakages leading to inaccurate measurements of results. In order to achieve the precise and accurate results, there is a need to adopt such an impedance measuring technique which is the best among the available techniques. A new algorithm is proposed to modify the range of frequencies of interest and inject such small-signal frequencies which do not interfere with the system harmonics. The measurement of the AC impedance of the three-phase RL circuit utilizing three diff erent small-signal injection techniques is performed. From the results displayed, it is clear that all the techniques perform well, therefore, the most simple, single phase line-current injection was selected for the AC impedance measurement of the nonlinear switching circuit such as sixpulse rectifi er. The issues discussed above are more serious in nonlinear switching circuit because of the presence of higher order switching harmonics in the circuit. The proposed algorithm is applied to measure the output-impedance of the threephase AC power supply as well as the AC input-impedance of the six-pulse rectifi er. These results of the switch vs average model and that of average model vs. experimental prototype are displayed for comparison, and it is clear that the proposed algorithm off ers much-improved results.
