Ballbots, which have been studied for over ten years, are under-actuated mobile robots that operate using the inverted pendulum paradigm. Controlling a ballbot poses a number of challenges, including maintaining the stable upright posture from the ground in all directions and making sure it follows the desired trajectory. External factors such as a minor change in contact surface properties or fabrication errors can affect the system's stabilization and transfer capabilities. In this study, an adaptive hierarchical sliding mode control algorithm based on an artificial neural network is developed to make the ballbot robust to external factors. The use of the proposed controller ensures system stability despite uncertainties including friction, accidental centrifugal forces and gravity that occur when the ballbot follows the reference trajectory. The system stability is guaranteed on the basis of Lyapunov theory. Control efficiency and robot stability under system uncertainties are demonstrated by numerical simulation.

Aims: Laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy (LPD) is considered as a safe and effective procedure in well - selected patients and appropriate surgical technique. Our aim is to evaluate suitability of using protocol for LPD in treatment of periampullary cancer at a single team. Methods: case series Results: Indication for LPD included 37 cases with resectable tumors which were classified basing on NCCN. All witness evaluation risk of complications with PREPARE score, ASA and evaluation risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) with FRS classification. There were 2 open conversions because of vein resections, accounting for 5.4%. Standard lymphadenectomy was performed in all of 37 cases. In term of PREPARE score, major complications (Clavien - Dindo >= III) were 17.8%, 0% and 0% (5/28, 0/5 and 0/2 cases) in low risk, intermediate risk and high risk group, respectively. All of cases had ASA I or II. POPF happened 11.1% (1/9), 4.1% (1/24) and 50% (1/2) in low risk, intermediate risk and high risk group, respectively. Frozen section was needed for R0 margin. Retrieved lymph nodes was 8 - 18 with 12 lymph nodes in average. Conclusions: Indication for LPD with resectable tumors is acceptable. ASA I or II is a safe measure to select patient for LPD. FRS classification shows appropriation to evaluate risk of POPF.

A new monoterpene glycoside, 6'-O-β-D-glucopyranosylalbiflorin (1), and four known compounds; albiflorin (2), 6'-O-benzoylalbiflorin (3), paeoniflorin (4) and benzoyl paeoniflorin (5), were isolated from the methanolic extract of the roots of Paeonia lactiflora Pall.. Their chemical structures were completely elucidated using a combination of 2D NMR techniques (COSY, HMQC and HMBC) and HRESI-MS analyses. To investigate the bioactivities of these compounds, their effects on the differentiation of osteoblastic MC3T3-E1 cells were tested. Compound 1 (0.01-10 µM) significantly increased the alkaline phosphatase activity and nodules mineralization of MC3T3-E1 cells compared to those of the control (P<0.05). These results suggest that newly isolated compound 1 has a direct stimulatory effect on bone formation in vitro and may contribute to the prevention for osteoporosis.

Computational fluid dynamic modeling of a continuous rheo-casting technology was conducted, consistent with the manufacturing of 3 -thin plates made of aluminum alloy A356. The A numerical simulation on of the stabilizing time of the material crystallization was carried out using the ANSYS FLUENT code. Solidification and melting models were simulated with heat transfer and solid-liquid phase transformation involving the latent heat of crystallization were simulated. The calculated temperature distribution and the evolution of cooling rate through the material were examined and used to clarify their influence on microstructure, and further investigated with hardness testing. The thickness of the mushy zone was determined for the steady conduction solution of the continuous rheo-casting process.

Information transparency ensures that market players all have the opportunity to access the same information to come up with their assessment of the banks' financial situation, performance and risks to reach effective investment decisions. This research is conducted to investigate the levels of impact of determinants on information transparency by examining the case studies of Vietnamese commercial banks. This study combines both qualitative and quantitative research methods, based on interviews of 32 specialists in banking, accounting and auditing fields, which were conducted to explore determinants influencing information transparency and to develop measurement scales. Then, a survey of 160 managers of commercial banks, audit firms, and accounting managers of firms who frequently had transactions with banks was carried out to investigate the statistical significance of these determinants. The results show that, out of seven determinants that have significant impacts on the banks' information transparency, commitment from banks' senior management regarding transparency in information disclosure has the highest impact, followed by state governance, auditing, information infrastructure, credit rating agencies, personnel and bank performance. Accordingly, we provide some recommendations for improving information transparency in the Vietnamese banking industry context as a case study and in emerging countries context in general.

This study formulates a new geometric parameterization scheme to effectively address numerical analysis subject to the variation of the fiber radius of a square unit cell. In particular, the proposed mesh-morphing approach may lead to a parameterized weak form whose bilinear and linear forms are affine in the geometric parameter of interest, i.e. the fiber radius. As a result, we may certify the reduced basis analysis of a square unit cell model for any parameters in a predetermined parameter domain with a rigorous a posteriori error bound. To demonstrate the utility of the proposed geometric parameterization, we consider a two- dimensional, steady-state heat conduction analysis dependent on two parameters: a fiber radius and a thermal conductivity. For rapid yet rigorous a posteriori error evaluation, we estimate a lower bound of a coercivity constant via the min-θ method as well as the successive constraint method. Compared to the corresponding finite element analysis, the constructed reduced basis analysis may yield nearly the same solution at a computational speed about 29 times faster on average. In conclusion, the proposed geometric parameterization scheme is conducive for accurate yet efficient reduced basis analysis.

Scientific evidence on all aspects of smoking amongst youth is very important for designing appropriate interventions to reduce smoking among this vulnerable population. This paper describes current access to anti-smoking information among school children aged 13 to 15 years in Vietnam in 2014 and examines its potential impact on preventing smoking initiation. The data used in this paper were obtained from the 2014 Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Vietnam. Students were asked questions about their level of awareness of anti-smoking information from various sources in the past 30 days and about lessons in school regarding the dangers of tobacco use during the last 12 months. Those who have never smoked were asked "whether or not they thought about avoiding cigarettes because of health warnings on cigarette packages" and answers were analyzed in combination with data on access to anti-smoking information from other sources. The prevalence of exposure to antismoking campaigns was high among school children in Viet Nam: 55.3% of current smokers reported thoughts of smoking cessation because of health warnings on cigarette packages; 60.5% of never smokers avoided initiating smoking because of the same health warnings. The potential impact of graphic health warnings to prevent school-aged children from smoking initiation would be stronger if there was concurrent access to anti-smoking programs on the dangers of tobacco use in schools. However, school education for tobacco prevention and control has not been as strong as expected. A more comprehensive school curriculum on tobacco prevention and control is recommended to reinforce antismoking messages among school children.
