      • Immunocytochemistry of serotonin and galanin in the hypothalamus of the Japanese quail

Haida, Yuka,Oishi, Tadashi,Tsutsui, Kazuyoshi,Tamotsu, Satoshi Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

We investigated the interaction of serotonin and galanin (GA) by a double immunostaining method in the Japanese quail. Serotonin-immunoreactive (IR) cells were located in the paraventricular organ (PVO) and infundibular nucleus (IF). The number of the cells under short-day photoperiod (SD) was less in the dark phase than in the light phase. GA-IR cells were found in the PVO, IF and median eminence. The number of GA-IR cells in SD was significantly greater than that in long-day photoperiod (LD). Numerous GA- IR varicose fibers ran along serotonin- IR cell bodies and nerve fibers in the PVO and IF of the same sections. Very few serotonin-IR fibers ran along GA-IR cell bodies and GA-IR nerve fibers in the ventral part of the IF. The present results suggest that the possibility of functional interaction takes place between serotonin- and GA- IR neurons in the PVO and IF.

      • Deep Brain Photoreceptors and Photoperiodism in Vertebrates

        Oishi, Tadashi,Haida, Yuka,Okano, Keiko,Yoshikawa, Tomoko,Kawano, Emi,Nagai, Kiyoko,Fukada, Yoshitaka,Tsutsui, Kazuyoshi,Tamotsu, Satoshi Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

Photoperiodism is an important adaptive phenomenon in various physiological parameters including reproduction to cope with seasonal changes. Involvement of extraretinal photoreceptors in the photoperiodism in non-mammalian vertebrates has been well established. In addition, circadian clock system is known to be involved in the photoperiodic time measurement. The pathway consists of light-input system, time measurement system (circadian clock), gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) production in the hypothalamus, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) production in the pituitary, and final gonadal development. Recently, several laboratories reported photopigments newly cloned in the pineal, eyes and deep brain in addition to already known visual pigments in the retina. These are pinopsin, parapinopsin, VA-opsin, melanopsin, etc. All these photopigments belong to the opsin family having retinal as the chromophore. However, the function of these photopigments remains unknown. I reviewed the studies on the location of the photopigments by immunocytochemistry. I also discussed the results on the action spectra for induction of gonadal development in relation with the location of the photoreceptors. Various physiologically active substances distribute in the vertebrate brain. Such substances are GnRH, GnIH, neuropeptide Y, vasoactive intestinal peptide, c-Fos, galanin, neurosteroids, etc. I summarized the immunhistochemical studies on the distribution and the photoperiodic changes of these substances and discussed the route from the deep brain photoreceptor to GnRH cells.

The role of cuscutain-propeptide inhibitor in haustoria parasitism and enhanced resistance to dodder in transgenic alfalfa expressing this propeptide

        Massoume Amini,Saify Nabiabad Haida,Ali Deljou 한국식물생명공학회 2018 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.12 No.3

Cuscutain is a cysteine protease produced by dodder (the most important weeds of alfalfa) that is essential for the development and penetration of the haustoria in host. The propeptide subunit of cuscutain has a specific inhibitory function and inhibits the enzymatic activity of the cuscutain. In this study, we introduced the gene encoding the propeptide segment of the cuscutain (signal peptide-less inhibitor) into alfalfa and investigated its roles in parasitism and the alfalfa resistance to C. reflexa. Results demonstrated that cuscutain is mainly expressed in haustoria and the expression of propeptide in transgenic alfalfa plants effectively inhibited cuscutain enzyme activity and consequently interrupted haustoria development at the pathogenic stage. Digitate cells of haustoria could not differentiate into the xylem and phloem hyphae in dodder grown on transgenic alfalfa. Dodder development on transgenic alfalfa lines showed an overall reduction in fecundity and vigor due to imperfect attachment of haustoria. Morphology, nodule development and biomass of transgenic plants indicate that the inhibitory transgene exhibits exquisite specificity for cuscutain enzyme and by expression of the inhibitor in transgenic plants, there was no obvious adverse effect on them. The increased development and growth of dodder-challenged alfalfa transgenic plants compared to controls, showed the efficacy of propeptide in dodder control.

Adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of cationic dyes over bismuth ferrite (BFO) intercalated on liquid natural rubber-based hydrogel compound

Mhonishya Krishnamoorthy,Mohamad Azuwa Mohamed,Noor Haida Mohd Kaus,Siti Fairus M. Yusoff 한국공업화학회 2022 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.116 No.-

A hydrogel-based photocatalyst was employed to remove methylene blue (MB) and safranin dye effluentsfrom wastewater using a liquid natural rubber (LNR)-acrylic acid (AAc) based bismuth ferrite (BFO)hydrogel compound. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in this research to optimize severalparameters for the synthesis of hydrogel compound and adsorptive-photodegradation process. Without apost-treatment separation phase, safranin and MB dye were able to maintain dye removal for up to sixand five cycles with 99% dye removal, respectively, explaining the hydrogel’s stability and adsorptive efficiency. Furthermore, MB and safranin dyes were adsorbed and photodegraded very rapidly under a xenonlamp compared to the dye removal efficacy at dark, proving BFO has aided in the photodegradation processadsorbs further the dye effluents in which the hydroxyl radical (·OH) and superoxide radical (·O2 – )species were responsible for the photocatalytic activity. It has been proposed that safranin and MB dyeeffluent adsorption matches the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm model. Apositive entropy number, S, in thermodynamic analysis indicates that the reaction has become more random, boosting the system’s spontaneity. Meanwhile, it is found that adsorption rate of safranin is highlydependent on pH and is under the influence of inner sphere surface complexes. Thus, the synthesizedLNR-g-MaH/AAc-BFO hydrogel compound in this study has shown excellent performance in the removalof dye effluents for the wastewater treatment process with enhanced stability.

Digital marketing tools are actively used in managing the development of park and recreation complexes to familiarize the population with the objects of natural heritage. This article aims to empirically evaluate digital marketing tools for popularizing the park and recreational complexes. The methodology was based on the concept of ecosystem value of park and recreation complexes as a natural heritage site. These methods included: identifying and selecting websites with information about park and recreation complexes in Slovakia and Ukraine. structural analysis of the main channels of online details about natural parks. Assessing the current state of online identity of the studied sites from the perspective of Internet users. The results indicate that to manage the development of park and recreational complexes developed their driven official websites in the Internet space, on which sections structure the information with the allocation of data on tourism and recreational potential. The article identifies additional digital marketing tools for managing the development of park and recreation complexes, particularly social networks and tourist websites. There is a sufficient amount of information about tourist recreation sites within these natural parks and tourist routes. Among the main problems of the websites: the information on the websites is entirely textual, there is a lack of sufficient data on social networks, despite the created official pages, there is no video content, which was more attracted tourists and visitors, allowing a visual assessment of the tourist potential; there is a problem of many communication channels to present the natural heritage of the countries. The research proves that the website is the primary and most common digital marketing tool for natural heritage, structuring information about tourism potential and recreation.
