Background and Objectives: Limited data are available regarding long-term clinical outcomes of iliac artery endovascular therapy (EVT) in real-world practice. This study investigated long-term outcomes according to Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC) classifications. Methods: We analyzed data from 1,705 limbs of 1,364 patients from the retrospective cohort of the multicenter Korean Vascular Intervention Society Endovascular Therapy in Lower Limb Artery Disease registry. The primary endpoint was target lesion revascularization (TLR)-free survival. Results: TASC A, B, C, and D lesions were present in 19.4%, 26.2%, 28.7%, and 25.7% of the treated limbs, respectively. The technical success rate was 96.2% and did not differ between TASC lesion types. Complications occurred in 6.8% of cases and more occurred in TASC D (11.8%). Iliac artery EVT showed a 5-year TLR-free survival of 89.2%. The TASC D group had the lowest TLR-free rate of 79.3%. TASC D (hazard ratio [HR], 1.75; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12–2.73; p=0.014), plain old balloon angioplasty (HR, 4.25; 95% CI, 2.03–8.88; p<0.001), current smoker (HR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.26–2.83; p=0.002), previous bypass surgery (HR, 3.04; 95% CI, 1.28–7.19; p=0.011), combined femoropopliteal treatment (HR, 4.89; 95% CI, 3.19–7.50; p<0.001), combined below the knee treatment (HR, 2.20; 95% CI, 1.25–3.89; p=0.007), and complications (HR, 1.86; 95% CI, 1.07–3.24; p=0.028) were predictors for TLR. Conclusions: Iliac artery EVT achieved excellent technical success and 5-year TLR-free survival. TASC D showed a favorable but lower 5-year TLR-free survival rate and higher complication rate compared with other TASC groups.
Smoking Habits and Neuropeptides : Adiponectin, Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor, and Leptin Levels
Ki-Woong Kim,Yong Lim Won,Kyung Sun Ko,Ji won Roh 한국독성학회 2014 Toxicological Research Vol.30 No.2
This study aimed to identify changes in the level of neuropeptides among current smokers, former smokers, and individuals who had never smoked, and how smoking habits affect obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS). Neuropeptide levels, anthropometric parameters, and metabolic syndrome diagnostic indices were determined among male workers; 117 of these had never smoked, whereas 58 and 198 were former and current smokers, respectively. The total sample comprised 373 male workers. The results obtained from anthropometric measurements showed that current smokers attained significantly lower body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and abdominal fat thickness values than former smokers and those who had never smoked. Current smokers’ eating habits proved worse than those of non-smokers and individuals who had never smoked. The level of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the neuropeptides in the case of former smokers was 23.6 ± 9.2 pg/ml, higher than that of current smokers (20.4 ± 6.1) and individuals who had never smoked (22.4 ± 5.8) (F = 6.520, p = 0.002). The level of adiponectin among former smokers was somewhat lower than that of current smokers, whereas leptin levels were higher among former smokers than current smokers; these results were not statistically significant. A relationship was found between adiponectin and triglyceride among non-smokers (odds ratio = 0.660, β value = ?0.416, p < 0.01) and smokers (odds ratio = 0.827, β value = ?0.190, p < 0.05). Further, waist circumference among non-smokers (odds ratio = 1.622, β value = 0.483, p < 0.001) and smokers (odds ratio = 1.895, β value = 0.639, p < 0.001) was associated with leptin. It was concluded that cigarette smoking leads to an imbalance of energy expenditure and appetite by changing the concentration of neuropeptides such as adiponectin, BDNF, leptin, and hsCRP, and influences food intake, body weight, the body mass index, blood pressure, and abdominal fat, which are risk factors for MetS and cardiovascular disease.

Park, Hae Woong,Na, Byung-Ki,Cho, Byung Won,Park, Sun-Min,Roh, Kwang Chul The Royal Society of Chemistry 2013 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.15 No.40
<P>In this study, V-doped NiO materials were prepared by simple coprecipitation and thermal decomposition, and the effect of the vanadium content on the morphology, structural properties, electrochemical behavior, and cycling stability of NiO upon oxidation and reduction was analyzed for supercapacitor applications. The results show an improvement in the capacitive characteristics of the V-doped NiO, including increases in the specific capacitance after the addition of just 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 at% V. All V<I>x</I>Ni1−<I>x</I>O electrodes (<I>x</I> = 0.01, 0.02, 0.04) exhibited higher specific capacitances of 371.2, 365.7, and 386.2 F g−1 than that of pure NiO (303.2 F g−1) at a current density of 2 A g−1 after 500 cycles, respectively. The V0.01Ni0.99O electrode showed good capacitance retention of 73.5% at a current density of 2 A g−1 for more than 500 cycles in a cycling test. Importantly, the rate capability of the V0.01Ni0.99O electrode was maintained at about 84.7% as discharge current density was increased from 0.5 A g−1 to 4 A g−1.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The V-doped NiO electrode materials were synthesized by simple co-precipitation and thermal decomposition. By modifying and optimizing the electrode materials, a 1.0 at% V-doped NiO electrode showed enhanced electrochemical performance due to its unique cross-linked porous nanostructure. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c3cp52498a'> </P>
