Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has become an important public health problem. However, the conventional therapeutic strategy, including pharmacotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy, has limitations. Neurofeedback is a technique that utilizes electroencephalography (EEG) signaling to monitor human physiological functions and is widely used to treat patients with PTSD. The purpose of our study is to assess the efficacy and safety level of neurofeedback treatment in patients with PTSD using quantitative EEG. Methods: This is a randomized, waitlist-controlled, assessor-blinded, clinical trial. Forty-six patients with PTSD will be randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio into two groups. The participants in the treatment group will receive neurofeedback treatment for 50 min, twice a week, for 8 weeks (16 sessions). Quantitative EEG will be utilized to monitor the physiological functions and brain waves of the participants. A four-week follow-up period is planned. The participants in the control group will wait for 12 weeks. The primary outcome is the Korean version of PTSD Checklist-5 (PCL-5-K) score. The PCL-5-K scores on week 8 will be compared between the two groups. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, emotions, EEG, quality-of-life, and safety level will be assessed as secondary outcomes. Discussion: This trial will describe a clinical research methodology for neurofeedback in patients with PTSD. The numerous subjective and objective secondary outcomes add to the value of this trial’s results. It will also suggest a therapeutic strategy for utilizing quantitative EEG in patients with PTSD. Our trial will provide basic evidence for the management of PTSD via an integrative treatment. Trial registration: Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS): KCT0003271.

<P>The recent technology of transfer printing using various membrane-type flexible/stretchable electronic devices can provide electronic functions to desirable objects where direct device fabrication is difficult. However, if the target surfaces are rough and complex, the capability of accommodating surface mismatches for reliable interfacial adhesion remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrate that newly designed nanotubular cilia (NTCs), vertically aligned underneath a polyimide substrate, significantly enhance interfacial adhesion. The tubular structure easily undergoes flattening and wrapping motions to provide a large conformal contact area, and the synergetic effect of the assembled cilia strengthens the overall adhesion. Furthermore, the hierarchical structure consisting of radially spread film-type cilia combined with vertically aligned NTCs in specific regions enables successful transfer printing onto very challenging surfaces such as stone, bark, and textiles. Finally, we successfully transferred a temperature sensor onto an eggshell and indium gallium zinc oxide-based transistors onto a stone with no electrical failure.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Purpose: This study examined the effects of sagittal spinopelvic alignment on the clinical parameters, motor symptoms, and respiratory function in patients with mild to moderate Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods: This study was a prospective assessment of treated patients (n=28, Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y) stage 2-3) in a PD center. Twenty-eight subjects (68.5±5.7 yrs) participated in this study. The clinical and demographic parameters, including age, sex, symptoms duration, treatment duration, and H&Y stage, were collected. Kinematic analysis was conducted in the upright standing posture with a motion capture system. A pulmonary function test (PFT) was performed in the sitting position using a spirometer. The motor symptoms were assessed on part III of the movement disorder society sponsored version of the unified Parkinson’s disease rating scale (MDS-UPDRS). SPSS 18.0 was used to analyze the collected data. Results: The exceeding 12 degrees group of the lower trunk showed significantly higher on the clinical parameters than the below 12 degrees group. In addition, the exceeding 12 degrees group of the lower trunk showed a significantly lower forced expiratory volume at one second (FEV1) / forced vital capacity (FVC) (%) and 25-75% forced mid-expiratory flow (FEF) (L/s) than in the below group. On the other hand, there was no difference in the upper trunk and the cervical pelvis between the groups. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the sagittal balance in the lower trunk is related to the clinical parameters and respiratory function, but not the motor symptoms in patients with mild to moderate PD.

<P>The cancer field effect (CFE) has been highlighted as one of indirect indications for tissue variations that are insensitive to conventional diagnostic techniques. In this research, we had a hypothesis that chemotherapy for breast cancer would affect skin biochemical compositions that would be reflected by Raman spectral changes. We used a fiber-optic probe-based Raman spectroscopy to perform preliminary animal experiments to validate the hypothesis. Firstly, we verified the probing depth of the fiber-optic probe (~800 <I>μ</I>m) using a simple intravenous fat emulsion-filled phantom having a silicon wafer at the bottom inside a cuvette. Then, we obtained Raman spectra during breast cancer treatment by chemotherapy from a small animal model in longitudinal manner. Our results showed that the treatment causes variations of biochemical compositions in the skin. For further validation, the Raman spectra will have to be collected from more populations and spectra will need to be compared with immunohistochemistry of the breast tissue.</P>
과체중 및 비만 환자의 체중감량을 위한 식사량 조절 및 복합 한약 단기 치료(5일 레스큐 프로그램)의 효과와 안전성: 진료기반 연구

Objectives: This study is a practice based research conducted to investigate the effectiveness and safety of a 5-day short-term diet program ('Oil-rescue' program) designed to reduce the adverse events and initial dropout rate in obesity treatment. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 4 Korean medicine clinic patient data who completed 'Oil-rescue' program which is consisting of Gambi-hwan, Bium-hwan, Butgiban-hwan and Jayoon Kyungokgo. The weight change before and after participating 'Oil-rescue' program was primary outcome of our study. Changes in body mass index, body fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, body water content, lean body mass, protein, and minerals were also measured. Results: A total of 35 patients who satisfied the eligible criteria were finally included. The body weight decreased from 69.45±11.86 kg to 67.43±11.58 kg, a total of 2.02±1.03 kg (P<0.001). Body fat mass decreased from 25.77±7.45 kg to 24.98±7.26 kg, a total of 0.78±1.21 kg (P<0.001). Body mass index decreased from 26.39±3.64 kg/㎡ to 25.64±3.49 kg/㎡, a total of 0.75±0.41 kg/㎡. (P<0.001). A total of 15 patients had side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and insomnia, but all were mild. 16 out of 35 people switched to long-term obesity treatment programs. Conclusions: Through this retrospective practice based research, it was found that the 'Oil-rescue' program effectively reduced body weight, body fat, and body mass index, and the other obesity related parameters. It was a relatively safe and effective short-term obesity treatment program.
