        Evaluation of the serum sex hormones levels and alkaline phosphatase activity in rats’ testis after administering of berberine in experimental varicocele

        Current study was aimed to investigate the protective effect of berberine (BB) on the serum gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), inhibin B (INHB), testosterone (T) and alkaline phosphatase (Alk-p) activity in the testis of experimental varicocele-induced animals. For the current objective, 30 mature-male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control (n = 6 rats), control-sham (n = 6 rats) and experimental groups (n = 18 rats). The animals in the experimental groups were undergone experimental varicocele and simple laparotomy was conducted in control-sham group. 60 days after varicocele (VCL) induction the experimental group subdivided into: nontreated VCL-induced and 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg BB-treated groups (intra-peritoneally). Following 60 days, the animals were euthanized and serum levels of testosterone and testicular activity of alkaline phosphatase were measured. Non-treated VCL-induced animals indicated a significant (P < 0.05) reduction in serum levels of T and INHB and a remarkable (P < 0.05) increase in GnRH, FSH, LH and Alk-p activity compared to control and control-sham groups. Insignificant changes were found between control and control-sham groups. Meanwhile, each BB administered group showed a remarkable (P < 0.05) increase in serum levels of T and INHB and a significant (P < 0.05) decrease in GnRH, FSH, LH and alkaline phosphatase activity in testis tissue. According to the current findings, BB by increasing serum levels of testosterone and INHB increases the testicular endocrine capacity and protects Leydig cell against inflammatory and oxidant injury of varicocele.         The dynamics of a pressure regulator valve have been studied using the through Bondgraph simulation technique. This valve consists of several elements that can transmit, transform, store, and consume hydraulic energy. The governing equations of the system have been derived from the dynamic model. In solving system equations numerically, various pressure-flow characteristics across the regulator ports and orifices have been taken into consideration. This simulation study identifies some critical parameters that have significant effects on the transient response of the system. The results have been obtained using the MATLAB-SIMULINK environment. The main advantage of the proposed methodology is its ability to model the nonlinear behavior of the hydraulic resistance of system elements as a function of the fluid flow rate.

        Thermodynamic Investigation of Integrated Air Cycle Refrigeration Systems

        An analysis of air cycle refrigeration (ACR) systems based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics has been carried out. Cooling the gas cooler outlet enhances the system efficiency, hence the use of integrated refrigeration systems (IRSs). The IRS consists of an ACR, an absorption chiller and a prime mover. The waste heat from the prime mover operates the absorption chiller, which provides additional cooling that is used to cool down the air exiting the gas cooler. LiBr-H2O and NH3-H2O are used as fluid pairs in absorption section. The prime mover can either be gas turbine or solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Results indicate that an IRS with NH3-H2O and two recuperators has a better first and second law efficiency compared to other considered systems. It is also concluded that the energy utilization factor and second law efficiency are higher for the system with SOFC as a prime mover.

        A Study of the Impact of Accounting Information Quality and Information Asymmetry on Underinvestment in Iran

        Purpose - The main purpose of the current study is to examine the impact of accounting information quality and information asymmetry on the underinvestment phenomenon among the listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). Research design, data, and methodology - The population includes 94 firms selected through systematic sampling. The data is collected from the audited financial statements of the firms provided by TSE’s website from 2010 to 2015. Accounting information quality and information asymmetry is considered as independent variables, and their impact is examined on the dependent variable (underinvestment). Results - The statistical results, based on data collected from 94 listed companies on the TSE during 2010–2015, revealed positive impact of accounting information quality and positive impact of information asymmetry on underinvestment. There was a significant relationship between accrual quality (AQ) and underinvestment, and spread and underinvestment. The results also showed that information asymmetry is the main factor in the creation underinvestment. Conclusions - Findings of this article can assist accounting researchers and theoreticians in comparing Real world facts with hypotheses developed with respect to accounting information quality, information asymmetry and underinvestment. However, the results of fuzzy regression analysis indicate significant relationships between the independent variable except underinvestment.

        The purpose of the present study is to investigate the relationship between Management bonuses and earnings stability of the listed companies on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). The population includes 94 firms selected through systematic sampling. The data is collected from the audited financial statements of the firms provided by TSE’s website from 2009 to 2016. The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that there is a significant relationship between Management bonuses and earnings stability. The aim of this study primarily investigating the relationship between earnings stability and management bonus. In the case of this target, the next goal of this research is to develop a proposal for legislation in the domain of capital market, students and faculty as well as accounting information users provide research interests. Observations show many companies despite the decline in profitability, bonus managers to continually pay. Increase in listed companies Stock Exchange as well as the importance of communication between earnings quality and bonus managers in Financial Accounting the authors created an incentive to research about this relationship do. The results of this research could be the development of literature done in the past. Thus, more knowledge about the issue of sustainability and its relation to bonus managers the users of accounting information, accounting courses provide students and faculty.

        Stabilization of [BMIM][PF6] ionic liquid membrane in structurally optimized multilayer ceramic support through aqueous DEA solution for CO2/CH4 separation

        The stability of the ceramic supported liquid membranes (SLMs) is one of the most interesting researchsubjects. In this work, the SLMs’ stability for CO2/CH4 separation was investigated. Following pressing a-Al2O3 substrates at 400, 600, and 800 bar, colloidal and polymeric TiO2 intermediate and top layers werecoated. Aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) solution was used as solvent in the SLM to optimize supportstructure based on CO2/CH4 separation performance. The pressed support at 800 bar and coated withTiO2 demonstrated best performance and selected for further study. Subsequently, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM][PF6]) ionic liquid (IL) was immobilized inside theselected support and used as the supported ionic liquid membrane (SILM) for CO2/CH4 separation. TheSILM separation performance was evaluated under different pressures and temperatures. Temperaturewas found to has greater effect than pressure due to a decrease in IL’s viscosity and an increase in penetrantdiffusivity. At 25 C and 1 bar, SILM exhibited consistent and reliable performance as CO2 and CH4permeabilities of 244.0 and 7.4 Barrer, respectively, and CO2/CH4 selectivity of 33.0 over 6 h. The findingscontribute to understanding the implementation of multilayer ceramic SILMs for CO2/CH4 separation andhighlight its potential along with opening up new avenues.

        Spatio-temporal analysis of fire incidences in urban context: the case study of Mashhad, Iran

        The study aims to identify fire patterns in Mashhad, the second-most populous city in Iran, between 2015 and 2019. Spatial scan statistics were utilized to determine the spatiotemporal patterns of 29,889 fire events in the research area. There were four primary types of fires: (1) structural fires (39%), (2) vehicle fires (11%), (3) green and open space fires (19%), and (4) others (31%). The interval from 12:00 to 23:00 h was identified as the high-risk period for all fire incidents. Fires were common in the nearby city core. Additionally, three significant hourly spatial-temporal clusters of firefighting operations were identified: the western part of the city between 12:00 and 23:00, the city center between 11:00 and 22:00, and the southeastern part between 11:00 and 22:00. Population density, illiteracy ratio, unemployment ratio, youth ratio, lowincome population, and the number of old buildings might be socio-economic criteria that contribute to the spatiotemporal pattern of urban fires. Urban planners might prioritize high-risk neighborhoods when allocating resources for fire safety. Future research could specifically investigate high-risk regions to identify relevant characteristics in these areas.

        Erythrocyte Membrane Unsaturated (Mono and Poly) Fatty Acids Profile in Newly Diagnosed Basal Cell Carcinoma Patients

        Studies have reported different changes in the fatty acid composition of red blood cell (RBC) total lipids in patients with various types of cancer. It has been indicated that n-3/n-6 ratio plays a key role in the general consequence of skin photocarcinogenesis. However, to our knowledge there was no study examining the unsaturated fatty acid profile in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) patients. So, we explore the fatty acid composition of RBCs in newly diagnosed BCC patients in a hospital-based case-control study. This study has been conducted on new case BCC patients in Razi Hospital, Tehran, Iran. Fatty acid concentration in erythrocyte membranes defined as relative values after extraction, purification and preparation, by gas chromatography.Analysis revealed that heptadecenoic acid (p = 0.010) and oleic acid (p < 0.001) was significantly higher in BCC patients in comparison with control group. Among polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), linoleic acid (LA), and arachidonic acid (AA) were significantly higher in BCC patients (p < 0.001). It has been indicated that n-3 was significantly lower (p = 0.040) and n-6 was significantly higher (p = 0.002) in BCC patients. In addition, total PUFA (p < 0.001) and n-6 PUFAs/n-3 PUFAs (p = 0.002) were significantly higher in BCC patients compared to the control group. Here we indicated that new case BCC patient had significantly higher n-6 PUFA and lower n-3 along with other differences in unsaturated fatty acid in comparison with healthy subjects. Our study provides evidence that lipids are important in BCC development.

        Effect of Eicosapentaenoic Acid Supplementation on Paraoxonase 2 Gene Expression in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: a Randomized Double-blind Clinical Trial

        Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is recognized as one of the most prevalent metabolic diseases, and it is mostly associated with oxidative stress, atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia. Paraoxonase 2 (PON2) due to its antioxidant properties may play a role in the atherosclerosis development. Although long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, the exact mechanism of action is still unknown. Our goal in this study was to determine the effect of EPA administration on gene expression of PON2 in patients with T2DM. Present study was a randomized, controlled double-blind trial. Thirty-six patients with T2DM were randomly allocated to receive 2 g/day EPA (n = 18) or placebo (n = 18) for 8 weeks. There were no significant differences between 2 groups concerning demographic or biochemical variables, and dietary intakes as well (p > 0.05). However, patients received EPA showed a significant increase in the gene expression of PON2 compared with placebo group (p = 0.027). In addition, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol increased and fasting blood sugar decreased significantly after EPA supplementation compared with control group. Taken together, supplementation with 2 g/day EPA could be atheroprotective via the upregulation of PON2 in patients with T2DM.
