        Effects of Pilates Reformer Exercise on Standing Postural Alignment

        Purpose: This study examined the effects of applying the Pilates reformer exercise to 17 adult women on the alignment of the standing posture. Methods: The subjects performed a Pilates reformer exercise for 60 minutes a day, three times a week, for a total of eight weeks. The Pilates reformer exercise consisted of five types: 1) lower and lift, 2) hundred, 3) plow, 4) airplane, and 5) twist. The standing posture alignment in the sagittal and frontal planes was measured using exbody 9100MOMI musculoskeletal analysis equipment. Results: A comparison of before and after the exercise using paired t-test revealed a significant decrease in the difference between the horizontal inclination and the vertical height that approached zero after the intervention in the frontal plane of anterior and posterior standing postures (p<0.05), and the lateral standing posture in the sagittal plane. In addition, the difference between the horizontal inclination and the vertical height decreased and approached zero after the intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: The Pilates reformer exercise had a positive effect on the alignment of the standing posture.

        Wii 균형 게임과 자가 거울 균형 운동이 만성 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 무릎관절 고유수용성 감각에 미치는 효과 비교

        Background: Many studies have reported positive results of the various mirror training and virtual reality games in improving dynamic standing balance and posture adjustment in chronic stroke patients. However, no systematic study has been conducted to compare the effects of virtual reality games and the mirror balance training. Objects: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Wii balance games and Mirror Self- Balancing Exercises in improving proprioception of knee joint and standing balance of people with chronic stroke. Methods: Twenty patients with chronic stroke volunteered for this study. The subjects were randomly divided into a Wii balance games group and a Mirror Self-Balancing Exercises group with 10 patients in each group. Each training was performed for 30 mins a day for 4 days. In addition to the balance training, 30 mins neuro-developmental-treatment based routine physical therapy was given to both groups. Proprioception was measured using two continuous passive motion devices, and static balance was measured using a Wii balance board. Dynamic balance assessment tools included the Berg Balance Scale, Dynamic Gait Index, and Timed Up-and-Go test. Results: All measured variables before and after the experimental results showed a significant improvement in both groups (p<.05). Only the improvement of the affected knee proprioception appeared to be significantly greater in the Wii balance game group (p<.05). However, other variables did not differ between the groups (p>.05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that both Wii balance games and Mirror Self-Balancing Exercises may be helpful for improving the proprioception of knee joint and the balance of patients with chronic stroke.

        The Effect of Type of Communication by Physical Therapists on Patient Satisfaction and Revisit Intention

        Purpose: This study sought to identify the effect of various types of communication by physical therapists on patient satisfaction and re-visit intention. Methods: A total of 212 patients who received physical therapy in Seoul and the Gyeonggi province were surveyed on patient satisfac-tion and revisit intentions depending on the types of communication by physical therapists. Frequency and correlation analyses were conducted to process the data using the SPSS 22.0 program, and the AMOS 18.0 statistical package was used for confirmatory factor analysis. A structural equation modeling analysis was also performed to verify the model and the hypothesis that was set up in the pres-ent paper. Results: The survey showed that patient satisfaction correlates positively and significantly with patient-centric communication, physical factors, and spatial behavior. A significant negative correlation was also found between patient satisfaction and therapist-centered com-munication. Patient satisfaction positively correlated with revisit intentions. Conclusion: These results showed that there was a positive correlation between the communication of the physical therapist and the satisfaction recognized by a patient. This implies that the patient satisfaction with a physical therapist increases as the communication skills of a physical therapist improve. These findings suggest that a physical therapist must adopt patient-centric communication styles, physical factors, and spatial behavior. This study was important as it generated basic data for the formation of a therapeutic relationship through efficient and promotional communication skills. It recognizes the importance of communication between a physical therapist and a patient as the indispensable factor for interaction.

      • 소형 과학위성 1호에 탑재되는 광대역 데이터 수집 장치의 개발 및 이동 단말기 활용

        현재 한국과학기술원 인공위성연구센터에서 개발되고 있는 과학위성 1 호는 우주탐사를 위한 탑재체의 개발과 지상 테이터 수집 장치 (DCS: Data Collecton System)의 개발을 그 주요 임무로 설정하고 있다. 이 중 데이터 수집 장치는 남호주 대학과 공동 개발되는 탑재체로서 지상의 단말과 저궤도 소형위성과의 효율적인 패킷 통신을 가능하게 하여 고정/이동 단말의 위치 추적 및 데이터 수집, 개인용 휴대단말 문자/음성 메시지 서비스 제공 등 다양한 분야로의 응용을 기대할 수 있는 기술을 구현할 예정이다. DCS는 지상/해양 단말과 위성간의 양방향 통신을 지원할 수 있도록 하여 단말이 위성으로부터의 명령에 따라 송신기를 동작시키고 수집된 데이터를 송신할 수 있는 알고리즘을 사용한다. 특히 해상에서의 원격탐사 기능을 수행하기 위해 Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography (ARGO)으로의 응용을 그 주요 활용 분야로 기대하고 있는 있다. 이는 기존의 ARGO 시스템이 갖고 있는 한계였던 수동적 Buoy 들의 비효율성을 극복하기 위해 능동적 제어방식을 도입하여 단말 전력을 절약하고 더 많은 데이터를 전송할 수 있는 시스템을 구축함으로서 이루어진다. KAISTSAT-4 is the fourth small experimental satellite developed by Satellite Technology Research Center (SaTReC) of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Among several payloads uploaded in KAISTSAT-4, DCS (Data Collection System) payload is designed to apply for Earth environmental monitoring purpose. Although have been similar satellite missions and communication networks before, most of them have relied on heavy and expensive satellite system. KAISTSAT-4 will exploit a simple and cost-effective implementation of global data collection strategy. SaTReC and Institute of Telecommunication Research of University of South Australia have joined together to operate the 'Data Collection System' It wil demonstrate the efficiency of LEO satellite communication technology by adopting new protocol for bi-directional messaging, onboard modem algorithms and architectures. The primary application of DCS will be oceanographic research which is associated with ARGO (Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanoraphy) environmental monitoring project. Higher data transfer capability will be achieved by using a custom multiple access method involving two-way communication. With the efficient control of power consumption of mobile terminals, the lifetime of each buoy can be increased. DCS will be a good candidate demonstrating the potential of low cost LEO micro-satellite for implementing cost-effective communication network.
