Helicoverpa armigera Nucleopolyhedrovirus ORF80 Encodes a Late, Nonstructural Protein

The Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV) ORF80 (ha80) has 765 bp encoding a protein with approximately 254 amino acids and a predicted molecular weight of 30.8 kDa. Homologues of ha80 are found in most baculovirus sequences, including those from lepidopteran NPVs, lepidopteran granuloviruses (GVs), hymenopteran baculoviruses, and one dipteran baculovirus, yet their functions remain unclear. In this study we characterized ha80, and showed that it was transcribed late in infected host cells (HzAM1). The product of ha80 was a 31 kDa protein that was not a structural protein of budded virus (BV) or occlusion-derived virus (ODV) particles. Ha80 was first detected in the cytoplasm of infected HzAM1 cells at 12 h p.i., and was observed in the nucleus at later stages of infection, suggesting that it may be involved in transporting viral proteins into the host cell nucleus or play its roles in the nucleus.
Evaluation on Nutritional Value of Field Crickets as a Poultry Feedstuff

The proximate analysis, amino acid content and true amino acid digestibility and TMEn for poultry of adult Field crickets Gryllus testaceus Walker, were investigated. The insect was also used as partial replacement of protein supplements in the broiler diet on an equal CP percentage and TMEn basis. The results indicated that the adult insect contained: crude protein 58.3%; fat 10.3%, chitin 8.7% and ash 2.96% on dry matter basis, respectively. The total amounts of methionine, cystine and lysine in the Field crickets were 1.93%, 1.01% and 4.79%, respectively, and their true digestibility coefficients, determined in cecectomized roosters, were 94.1%, 85% and 96%, respectively. The TMEn of this insect meal was 2,960 kcal/kg determined in cecectomized roosters. When cornsoybean meal diets were formulated on an equal CP percentage and TMEn basis, up to 15% Field cricket could replace control diet without any adverse affects on broiler weight gain, feed intake or gain:feed ratio from 8 to 20 d posthatching.

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) have attracted wide attention in the field of marine anticorrosion. However, the stability problem severely restricts the broad applications of SLIPS. Herein, wefabricated a polyurethane-based ultraslippery surface with lubricant self-replenishing and matrix selfhealingproperties owing to the huge amount of dynamic hydrogen-bond. Besides, the bacteria culturetest and electrochemical analysis results indicate the prepared surface possesses superior properties inthe protection of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). This paper offers an efficient strategy tosolve stability problem of SLIPS, and the as-obtained self-healable ultraslippery surface can be used asa promising material in mitigating MIC.

<P>A novel ternary Ag/BiVO<SUB>4</SUB>/Co<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> hybrid photocatalyst was designed by constructing a metal–semiconductor junction and a p–n junction on electron-rich {010} facets and hole-rich {110} facets of BiVO<SUB>4</SUB>, respectively. The Ag/BiVO<SUB>4</SUB>/Co<SUB>3</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> hybrid photocatalyst exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity for rhodamine B degradation, which is over 8 times that of bare BiVO<SUB>4</SUB> under simulated solar light. It was proven that the combination of a metal–semiconductor junction and a p–n junction further promotes the charge transferring across the interface, and results in an additional effect of two single junctions for improving photo-activity. Background: Saponins from Panax japonicus (SPJ) are the most abundant and main active components of P. japonicus, which replaces ginseng roots in treatment for many kinds of diseases in the minority ethnic group in China. Our previous studies have demonstrated that SPJ has the effects of anti-inflammation through the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-${\kappa}B$) signaling pathways. The present study was designed to investigate whether SPJ can modulate intestinal tight junction barrier in aging rats and further to explore the potential mechanism. Methods: Aging rats had been treated with different doses (10 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, and 60 mg/kg) of SPJ for 6 mo since they were 18 mo old. After the rats were euthanized, the colonic samples were harvested. Levels of tight junctions (claudin-1 and occludin) were determined by immunohistochemical staining. Levels of proinflammatory cytokines (interleukin-$1{\beta}$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$) were examined by Western blot. NF-${\kappa}B$ and phosphorylation of MAPK signaling pathways were also determined by Western blot. Results: We found that SPJ increased the expression of the tight junction proteins claudin-1 and occludin in the colon of aging rats. Treatment with SPJ decreased the levels of interleukin-$1{\beta}$ and tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$, reduced the phosphorylation of three MAPK isoforms, and inhibited the expression of NF-${\kappa}B$ in the colon of aging rats. Conclusion: The studies demonstrated that SPJ modulates the damage of intestinal epithelial tight junction in aging rats, inhibits inflammation, and downregulates the phosphorylation of the MAPK and $NF-{\kappa}B$ signaling pathways.

The strawberry (Fragaria×ananassa) is an economically important perennial crop plant, and its fruits are rich in vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid [AsA]) and other nutrients. l-galactono-1,4-lactone dehydrogenase (GalLDH) is a key enzyme in the terminal step of AsA biosynthesis pathway in plants. Here, the GalLDH gene (FaGalLDH) was cloned from ‘Benihoppe’ strawberries. AsA content increased during fruit development and peaked at the red-ripening stage, and AsA concentrations in diferent tissues were correlated with enzyme activity and transcription level of FaGalLDH. Transient over-expression of FaGalLDH in strawberry fruit increased its overall expression and AsA production signifcantly, whereas transient RNAi of FaGalLDH decreased its expression and AsA content. Furthermore, the optimum pH and temperature for FaGalLDH activity were 8.0 and 25 °C, respectively. Ectopic expression of the FaGalLDH gene in Arabidopsis resulted in higher AsA content and enzyme activity in transgenic lines than in wild-type plants. FaGalLDH over-expression resulted in enhanced tolerance to salt stress due to reduced accumulation of malondialdehyde, H2O2, and O2 .−, as well as higher survival rates, root length, proline content, and superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase activities. These results provide useful information regarding AsA biosynthesis and salt tolerance, which may help to improve strawberry fruit quality and productivity.

A scheme is proposed to generate triangular waveforms with alterable symmetry. The key component is a cascaded single-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (SD-MZM) and optical polarization beam splittercombiner architecture. In this triangular waveform generator, the bias-induced phase shift, modulation index and controllable delay difference are changeable. To generate triangular waveform signals with different symmetry indexes, different combinations of these variables are selected. Compared with the previous schemes, this generator just contains one SD-MZM and the balanced photodetector (BPD) is not needed, which means the costs and energy consumption are significantly reduced. The operation principle of this triangular waveform generator has been theoretically analyzed, and the corresponding simulation is conducted. Based on the theoretical and simulated results, some experiments are demonstrated to prove the validity of the scheme. The triangular waveform signals with a symmetry factor range of 20–80% are generated. Both experiment and theory prove the feasibility of this method.
Multi-Tenant Data Storage Model and Performance Evaluation

Multi-tenant data storage model has multiple solutions and comparing the different storage solutions can help users improve their work efficiency. This paper proposes a query performance evaluation method based on the relational algebra. First of all, we introduce three wide table models. Secondly, we unite the format of tenant query SQL statement by analyzing structure of storage model, replace the unified format SQL with the relational algebra and evaluate the I/O cost of SQL query using relational algebra. Finally, through theoretical calculations and experimental simulations, we evaluate the performance of multi-tenant storage model according to query performance. The results show our evaluation method based on relational algebra provides new perspective for the study of performance evaluation in multi-tenant data model.
