<P>A hierarchical CNT-loaded GF composite paper interlayer was fabricated by a sonication method. In this study, the GF paper offers outstanding electrolyte uptake, which is essential for preserving dissolved polysulphides, and the CNT networks provide a fast electron pathway for insulating the active materials. The GF/CNT interlayer-loaded Li-S cell exhibited a high capacity and long-term cycling performance.</P>

Association between Timed Up and Go Test and Subsequent Functional Dependency

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the association between baseline results of the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and subsequent functional dependency occurrence. Methods: From the National Health Insurance Service-Senior Cohort database, we identified 39,519 people who participated in the National Screening Program for Transitional Ages at the age of 66 during 2007–2008. Impaired mobility was defined as taking 10 seconds or longer to perform the TUG test. Functional dependency occurrence was defined as the initiation of receiving national Long-Term Care Insurance services—home care or admission to long-term care facilities. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to assess the hazard ratios (HRs) for dependency occurrence according to baseline TUG test results. Results: The mean follow-up period was 5.7 years. Occurrence rates of dependency were 2.0 and 3.4 cases per 1,000 person-years in the normal and impaired TUG groups, respectively. Impaired mobility was associated with a higher risk of functional dependency occurrence (adjusted HR [aHR], 1.65; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.40–1.95; P < 0.001). Additionally, in the subgroup analysis for the participants with intact baseline activities of daily living, impaired mobility was associated with a higher risk of dependency occurrence (aHR, 1.65; 95% CI, 1.33–2.04; P < 0.001). Conclusion: The TUG test might be a useful predictive marker of subsequent functional dependency occurrence. Intervention to prevent functional dependency may be helpful for older adults with impairment on the TUG test.

Geographic Genetic Contour of a Ground Beetle, Scarites aterrimus (Coleoptera: Carabidae) on the Basis of Mitochondrial DNA Sequence

The Scarites aterrimus (Coleoptera: Carabidae), is one of the carabid beetles dwelling exclusively on coastal sandy dunes. Habitat deterioration and equivalent activity have greatly concerned population declines in several species dwelling on the coastal sandy dunes. As a first step to establish long-term conservation strategy, we investigated the nation-wide magnitude and nature of genetic diversity of the species. As a first step, we sequenced a portion of mitochondrial COI gene, corresponding to "DNA Barcode" region (658 bp) from a total of 24 S. aterrimus individuals collected over nine sandy dunes belonging to four Korean provinces. The sequence analysis evidenced moderate to low magnitude of sequence diversity compared with other insect species distributed in Korean peninsula (0.152% to 0.912%). The presence of closely related haplotypes and relatively high gene flow estimate collectively suggest that there had been no historical barriers that bolster genetic subdivision. Population decline was postulated on the basis of several missing haplotypes that are well found in the species with a large population size. This interpretation is consistent with field observation of small population size in the coastal sandy dune habitats. The highest genetic diversity estimates were found in the coastal sand dune population of Seogwipo, Jeju Island, justifying a prior attention to the population, in order to sustain overall genetic diversity of the species. Further scrutinized study might be required for further robust conclusion.

Patients’ perception about opioids and addiction in South Korea

Background: Chronic pain affects approximately 22% of the world’s population. Opioids can be useful in chronic pain management. However, some patients have negative perception of opioids. The purpose of this research was to evaluate patients’ perception about opioids and investigate problems associated with prescribing and taking opioids in South Korea. Methods: Patients who visited a pain clinic in 14 university hospitals of South Korea from September through October 2018 were asked to complete anonymous questionnaires about taking opioids. Results: Of the 368 patients that were surveyed (female 53.3%, male 46.7%), 56.8% were prescribed opioids. In the opioid group, 92.8% patients had heard of opioids from their doctor and 72.6% of them had a positive perception about opioids. The side effects associated with opioid use were constipation (35.4%), dizziness (24.6%), nausea and vomiting (17.4%), dysuria (6.2%), and addiction (2.0%). In the no opioid group, the primary sources of information about opioids were doctors (49.2%), mass media (30.8%), and the internet (16.2%). The main reasons why 39.0% patients did not take opioids were fear of addiction (57.7%) and side effects (38.5%). There were 71.5% and 60.9% patients in the opioid and no opioid group, respectively, who wished to take opioids when their numeric rating scale pain score was ≥ 7. Conclusions: Perception of opioids among patients who take them was either neutral or positive. However, 39.0% patients who have not been prescribed opioids did not want an opioid prescription, citing fear of addiction and side effects as the primary reasons.

Tetrahydrobiopterin enhances mitochondrial biogenesis and cardiac contractility via stimulation of PGC1α signaling

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) shows therapeutic potential as an endogenous target in cardiovascular diseases. Although it is involved in cardiovascular metabolism and mitochondrial biology, its mechanisms of action are unclear. We investigated how BH4 regulates cardiovascular metabolism using an unbiased multiple proteomics approach with a sepiapterin reductase knock-out (<I>Spr</I> <SUP>−/−</SUP>) mouse as a model of BH4 deficiency. <I>Spr</I> <SUP>−/−</SUP> mice exhibited a shortened life span, cardiac contractile dysfunction, and morphological changes. Multiple proteomics and systems-based data-integrative analyses showed that BH4 deficiency altered cardiac mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Along with decreased transcription of major mitochondrial biogenesis regulatory genes, including <I>Ppargc1a</I>, <I>Ppara</I>, <I>Esrra</I>, and <I>Tfam</I>, <I>Spr</I> <SUP>−/−</SUP> mice exhibited lower mitochondrial mass and severe oxidative phosphorylation defects. Exogenous BH4 supplementation, but not nitric oxide supplementation or inhibition, rescued these cardiac and mitochondrial defects. BH4 supplementation also recovered mRNA and protein levels of PGC1α and its target proteins involved in mitochondrial biogenesis (mtTFA and ERRα), antioxidation (Prx3 and SOD2), and fatty acid utilization (CD36 and CPTI-M) in <I>Spr</I> <SUP>−/−</SUP> hearts. These results indicate that BH4-activated transcription of PGC1α regulates cardiac energy metabolism independently of nitric oxide and suggests that BH4 has therapeutic potential for cardiovascular diseases involving mitochondrial dysfunction.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> BH4 deficiency impairs mitochondrial and cardiac function. </LI> <LI> BH4 regulates PGC1α, ERRα, and mtTFA transcription. </LI> <LI> BH4 regulates proteins related to mitochondrial antioxidation and fatty acid utilization. </LI> <LI> BH4 is essential for mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation. </LI> <LI> BH4 has therapeutic potential for cardiovascular diseases involving mitochondrial dysfunction. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Business Casual has been launched because of ``Friday Wear`` in the l990s and in Korea, the business casual has been settled under the influence of the five-day work week. The idea of business casual is that ``Business`` and ``Casual wear`` are combined. It is the attire that people should wear the jacket for formality and people can wear both on or off duty. As a result of the analysis, based on this, of the characteristics of men`s business casual appeared in Seoul collections from 2009 till now, they can be classified in ``Classic & Traditional business casual``, ``Modern business casual``, ``Natural business casual``, ``Feminine business casual`` and ``Sporty business casual``. As a result of the analysis of the design characteristics of the Korean men`s business casual and the trend, based on the content of the analysis of Seoul Collection, ``Classical Classic & the Traditional``, ``Modern of the Contemporary design``, ``Natural of the Natural design`` and ``the Sporty business casual of the Separate Coordination`` including jeans, have presented themselves. Also, as a result of the analysis of Korean business men`s business casual according to the classification of the design characteristics in Chapter Ⅲ, ``Classic & Traditional business casual`` account for the majority and then ``Sporty``, ``Modern`` and ``Natural business casual`` account for the rest in order. ``Feminine business casual`` hasn`t presented itself. As a result of the comparative analysis of the design characteristics in Chapter Ⅲ & Ⅳ, Korean business men`s business casual has been concentrated on ``Classical & Traditional`` and the design characteristics have not appeared in variety. There has been no such audacious attempt, and items, the characteristics of coordination, colors and materials are not in variety compared to the collection. Meanwhile, as a result of the subsistent characteristics of Koran business men`s business casual, the characteristics of business men`s business casual can be said to represent themselves in Separate Coordination with the previous items of formal suits.

어머니의 태아기·영아기 육아 들여다보기

본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니의 태아기 및 영아기 육아를 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 2019년 10월 17일부터 2019년 10월 28일까지 U시에 거주하는 만 3세-만 5세 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니 10인을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과는 ‘임신은 걱정과 고민의 연속’, ‘조언과 정보 속, 행복한 태교 찾기’, ‘출산의 이상과 현실’, ‘일과 신체 문제로 어려운 완전모유’, ‘엄마표이유식과 간편이유식’, ‘편리성과 원칙 사이, 보행기와 배변훈련’, ‘유혹적인 전자기기의 편리함’, ‘아이 성격발달의 책임자’, ‘책과 온라인 커뮤니티는 육아 상담소’, ‘힘들어도 견뎌내는 육아’ 등 특징지어지는 10가지 내용범주로 유형화하고, 분석하였다. 본 연구가 육아에 대한 어려움과 두려움을 가지는 현 시대의 어머니와 이를 극복해나가고자 하는 시도들에서 의미 있는 자료로 쓰이길 기대한다. The purpose of this study is to examine the fetal and infant care of mothers with early children. To that end, in-depth interviews were conducted between October 17, 2019 and October 28, 2019, for 10 mothers with children aged 3 to 5 who lived in U-city. The results of the study showed 10 categories of content: ‘Pregnancy is a series of worries and worries’, ‘In advice and information, find a happy prenatal education’, ‘The ideal and reality of childbirth’, ‘Complete breastfeeding that is difficult because of work and physical problems.’, ‘Mother-made baby food and purchase baby food’, ‘Between convenience and principle, baby walker and bowel training’, ‘The convenience of seductive electronic devices’, ‘Responsible for the development of children s character’, ‘Books and online communities are parenting counseling centers.’, ‘Hard but bearable parenting’. It is hoped that this study will help today s mothers who have difficulties and fears about childcare and will be used as meaningful data to overcome childcare difficulties.

Synthesis, Topoisomerase I Inhibition and Antitumor Cytotoxicity of 2,2':6',2"-,2,2':6',3'-and 2,2':6',4"-Terpyridine Derivatives

For the development of new anticancer agents, 2,2':6',2"-,2,2':6',3"-and 2,2':6',4"-terpyridine derivatives were designed and evaluated for their topoisomerase I inhibitory activity and antitumor cytotoxicity. Structure-activity relationship studies indicated that 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine derivatives were highly cytotoxic toward several human tumor cell lines, whereas 2,2':6',3"- and 2,2':6',4"-terpyridine derivatives were potent topoisomerase I inhibitors.
