The construction of a multiple intelligences inventory

The purpose of this research is to construct an inventory to explore Taiwanese students` multiple intelligences. Four hundred and nineteen subjects participated in this study. The validity of the inventory was examined by exploratory factor analysis and the internal consistency was examined by reliability test. A set of criteria were used to extract the preliminary 64-item inventory to derive the final 42-item inventory. These criteria included four parts: Eigen values were greater than 1, factor loadings were greater than .3; item-total correlations were greater than .5, and Cronbach`s α values were greater than .6. This proposed inventory can be used to assess students` multiple intelligences more efficiently and effectively teachers then can plan and arrange their instructions accordingly.
A Comparison of Different Vocabulary Learning Strategy Use between EFL and CSL Learners

This research aims to compare the similarity and difference in vocabulary strategy use between EFL and CSL learners. There were 217 subjects in Taiwan participated in this study. Vocabulary Learning Strategy Inventory was conducted to identify the strategies for both EFL and CSL learners used to learn English vocabulary or Chinese characters. SPSS is employed to analyze the data collected. The results showed that two of the strategies used by EFL and CSL learners are different and the other 16 strategies used are the same. The outcome revealed that vocabulary learning is similar across these two languages. Thus EFL and CSL teachers can facilitate learners to apply their first language vocabulary learning strategies and transfer those to second/foreign language learning. In the meantime, teachers ought to pay attention to the fundamental differences between the two languages to help learners to seize the vocabulary learning strategies based on the language features specifically.
Unveiling creative teaching in English instruction

This research aims to develop a scale to explore student`s atti-tude toward creative English teaching in Taiwan. Three hundred and nineteen subjects participated in this study. Exploratory factor analy-sis was employed to test the internal consistency of scale and reli-ability test was conducted to measure the internal consistency of the items. The preliminary 32-item scale was scrutinized by a specific set of criteria to develop the final version of the scale. Four items were removed from the scale because they did not meet the requirements. The final scale consisting of twenty-eight items were examined by the same procedure and five factors were extracted from this scale. All of the items in the final scale met the following criteria: Eigen values were larger than 1, factor loadings were larger than.3; item-total cor-relations were larger than.5, and Cronbach`s a value was larger than .6, Teachers and researchers can employ this scale to uncover stu-dents` attitude toward creative English teaching, and modify their teaching methods accordingly.

The flow velocity profiles in most of the central air-conditioning pipelines are, in general, not fully developed flow and difficult to obtain the accurate flow rates by flowmeters, which are used for measuring average velocity. Especially for being at the outlet of an elbow, the accuracy of flow rate by measurement is quite low. Therefore, there are some limitations for measurements of flow rate and velocity profile by the present flow measuring technologies. The objective of this study was to establish an approach on accurate predictions of velocity profiles at different measured locations of central air-conditioning pipelines for nonuniform flow measurements by simulations of computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). All the velocity profiles will integrate as a database for predictions by neural network algorithm for smart measurement further. In the present work initially, international experiments were employed to validate the accuracy of CFD approach. The calculations were carried out by different turbulence models. The results compared with the experimental data by Realizable k-ε turbulence model with less computing resources have great agreements. Realizable k-ε turbulence model was, therefore, determined for the predictions of central air-conditioning pipeline. According to various pipings and pipe sizes, the results for three cases show that the velocity profiles in the pipelines would not be symmetrical and has strong secondary flow. Therefore, all of the flow profiles would be integrated and analyzed as a database and assist to get accurately the measured locations of ultrasonic flowmeters. Further, this database will be combined with algorithm of artificial neural network for smart predictions.
Reversible and High-Capacity Data Hiding in High Quality Medical Images

Via the Internet, the information infrastructure of modern health care has already established medical information systems to share electronic health records among patients and health care providers. Data hiding plays an important role to protect medical images. Because modern medical devices have improved, high resolutions of medical images are provided to detect early diseases. The high quality medical images are used to recognize complicated anatomical structures such as soft tissues, muscles, and internal organs to support diagnosis of diseases. For instance, 16-bit depth medical images will provide 65,536 discrete levels to show more details of anatomical structures. In general, the feature of low utilization rate of intensity in 16-bit depth will be utilized to handle overflow/underflow problem. Nowadays, most of data hiding algorithms are still experimenting on 8-bit depth medical images. We proposed a novel reversible data hiding scheme testing on 16-bit depth CT and MRI medical image. And the peak point and zero point of a histogram are applied to embed secret message k bits without salt-and-pepper.
A Model Deformation Approach for 3D Reconstruction

In this paper, we present a model deformation approach based on a visual hull technique for improving 3D reconstruction. The proposed approach combines the exquisite 3D model derived by active acquisition methods and the constraints from the rough 3D model derived by passive methods. We take the advantages of active and passive methods to obtain a 3D model with the better quality. The clustering method is adopted to segment 3D models into several sub-models and we then match the sub-models individually via an iterative closest point algorithm. Three testing 3D models are used for evaluating the proposed approach. The results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach.
