      • Electrospun bioactive poly (@?-caprolactone)-cellulose acetate-dextran antibacterial composite mats for wound dressing applications

        <P>Electrospun nanofibrous mat for wound dressing application was successfully prepared from poly (6caprolactone) (PCL), cellulose acetate (CA) and dextran blend solution. Incorporation of small amount of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), an antibacterial drug, improved the cell proliferation, enhanced blood clotting ability and cell attachment as well as antimicrobial activity of the composite mat. The composite mats were characterized by SEM, FTIR and TGA analysis. In order to evaluate the cytocompatibility and cell behavior of the composite scaffolds, fibroblast cells were seeded on the matrix. Results demonstrated that the incorporation of dextran and drug strongly enhanced the adhesion and proliferation of the cells on the composite nanofibers. The antimicrobial activity of the composite was studied by zone inhibition against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and the result indicates high antibacterial activity. Therefore, as synthesized composite fiber have decent characteristics for wound dressing and skin engineering applications. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.</P>

        압축천연가스(CNG)의 주요성분인 메탄의 산화와 연소를 HCCI엔진조건하에서 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션으로 연구하였다. 먼저, 당량비를 0.2에서 0.45까지 변화시켜 얻은 압력과 온도효과를 CHEMKIN을 사용하여 계산하였다. 그리고, 메탄의 운동학적 특성을 당량비 Ф=0.3, GRI 3.0 방법을 사용하여 계산하였다. 반응물과 생성물의 반응과정과 매개물의 프로파일은 운동학적 모델을 사용하였다. 마지막으로, 메탄의 산화반응의 주요 반응경로를 확인하기 위해 완전반응유동해석을 사용하였다.

        High-Tc Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices and Biomagnetic Applications

        The superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) is the most sensitive detector of the magnetic flux in the range of frequencies from dc to MHz and has widely been used in biomagnetic applications. In this paper, we highlight a few aspects of High-Tc SQUIDs, novel biomagnetic applications, and perspective. We give an overview of the current status and the principle techniques used to fabricate High-Tc SQUIDs. SQUID applications in magnetocardiography, biological immunoassay, and nuclear magnetic resonance are addressed. The results are discussed.=

        Talking Green, Building Brown: China-ASEAN Environmental and Energy Cooperation in the BRI Era

        This article examines the evolution of China-ASEAN environmental and energy cooperation since the 2010s with a focus on changes following the launch of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It shows that over the past decade China and ASEAN have actively expanded cooperative frameworks and mechanisms in the domain of environmental protection as part of their comprehensive approach to sustainable development, particularly regarding energy projects. Nonetheless, the implementation record in their energy cooperation, that is, the lion’s share of BRI projects in Southeast Asia, remains unsustainable and contradicts with their shared “green” policy discourse. The article examines factors from both sides of China and ASEAN that contribute to this disconnect and explains why China’s own accomplishments in renewable energy development fail to spill over to Southeast Asia. These findings have implications for China’s impact on global governance and its leadership role in the Global South.

      • Pressure Distribution Assessments for a Beam of a Flat Wiper Blade

        Recently standard wiper blades have been gradually replaced by flat wiper blades due to several advantages such as simple structures. A schematic approach is developed to appraise the suitability of the geometry of a metallic beam, one of major components of the flat wipe blade, in the present study. The beam is compressed against a level surface via a rocker arm mechanism, and the corresponding pressure distribution under the beam is measured by using piezoelectric sensors. Pressure distributions along the longitudinal direction of the beam based on the numerical simulations are in good agreement with those based on the experiments. A parameterized beam model is proposed here to achieve anticipated characteristics of the pressure distributions of the beam provided. Three geometric parameters built in a computer-aided drawing (CAD) model are investigated to evaluate their influences on the pressure distributions of the beam. An optimization software linked to CAD software and a finite element analysis software is further adopted based on various self-defined optimization indexes to search for an ideal parameter combinations. The suggested geometry of the beam is then sampled to validate the appropriateness of the current pressure assessment procedures.

        Clarifying the basic phase structure and magnetic behavior of directly quenched (Ce,La)2Fe14B alloys with various Ce/La ratios

        To improve the performance/cost ratio of NdFeB based permanent magnets, Ce or/and La substitutions for Nd have been suggested. To better understand the effects of these substitutions, the fundamental behavior of (Ce,La)-Fe-B alloys has to be clearly understood. Here, we reported a systematic investigation on the phase structure, microstructure, and magnetic properties of melt-spun (Ce,La)2Fe14B alloys. The results confirm that partial substitution of Ce by La can effectively enhance the hard magnetism and thermal stability of (Ce1- xLax)2Fe14B alloys, while over 80% La substitution leads to the decomposition of 2:14:1 phase. The lattice parameters a, c and the Curie temperature Tc of 2:14:1 phase increase linearly with the increasing La content. La substitution can effectively refine the grain, resulting in the enhancement of inter-grain exchange coupling. The (Ce0.7La0.3)2Fe14B alloy with a mean grain size of 25 nm exhibits high remanence, maximum energy product and intrinsic coercivity up to 0.69 T, 6.2 MGOe and 217 kA/m, respectively. The present work provides a good understanding on the melt-spun (Ce,La)-Fe-B system for further developing low cost rare earth permanent magnets.

        The Effect of Varying Levels of Tryptophan on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Growing and Finishing Broilers

        The purpose of this experiment was to study the effect of varying levels of tryptophan on the performance and carcass character of broiler. Trial 1: Ninety-six, five-week-old male Hubbard chickens, average weight 1.97 kg, were used in the trial. All birds were allocated into 3 treatments of 32 birds each. Each bird was kept in an individual cage. The trial period was 3 weeks. Treatment 1: Tryptophan content 0.198%. Treatment 2: Tryptophan content 0.228%. Treatment 3: Tryptophan content 0.258%. Trial 2: Ninety-six, three-week-old male Hubbard chickens, average weight 1.23 kg, were randomly distributed into the following two treatments. Each treatment had 48 birds. Treatment 1: Tryptophan content 0.167%. Treatment 2: Tryptophan content 0.198%. Trial 3: Ninety-six, twoweek-old Hubbard chickens, average body weight 0.72 kg, were used in this experiment. There were three treatments as follows. Treatment 1. Tryptophan content 0.136%. Treatment 2. Tryptophan content 0.167%. Treatment 3. Tryptophan content 0.198%. The result of Trial 1 showed that the feed intake, performance, and carcass characteristics were not influenced by tryptophan content in the diet which between 0.198% and 0.258% (p>0.05). There was no significant difference (p>0.05) in feed intake in either treatment in Trial 2. However, weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, and most carcass characteristics in the 0.198% treatment were significantly better (p<0.05) than in the 0.167% treatment. There was a trend that feed intake increased with increasing level of tryptophan, but there was no significant difference in Trial 3. The weight gain and feed conversion efficiency were significantly reduced for the broiler in the 0.136% treatment. This series of experiment showed that broilers need about 0.198% of tryptophan.

        Magnetic Nano-Particles and Their Applications in Immunoassays

        Biocompatible magnetic nano-particles show great potential in bio-magnetic applications, such as MRI contrast agents, drug delivery, magnetically labeled immunoassays, and so on. In this work, the feasibility of magnetically labeled immunoassay using bio-compatible magnetic nano-particles is investigated. To do this, we study the synthesis technologies for magnetic nano-particles of Fe3O4, as well as the coating of various bio-probes onto the magnetic nano-particles to detect the bio-targets avidin, such as, etc. Furthermore, different measurements, like magnetic relaxation and saturated magnetization, for the amounts of bio-targets are developed. In order to achieve an ultra-high sensitivity in magnetically labeled immunoassays, we used SQUIDs because SQUIDs are the most sensitive sensors for magnetic signals. The characterizations of these magnetically labeled immunological measurements are discussed.

        Probability Density Function for the Critical Current Asymmetry of a HTS dc SQUID

        A dc SQUID consisting of grain boundary Josephson junctions may often be asymmetric owing to the large critical-current spread. In this work, the probability density function (PDF) for the critical-current asymmetry of high-transition-temperature-superconductor (HTS) dc SQUID was investigated. To model the critical-current spread in the grain boundaries, we assumed that the barrier thickness of the Josephson junction fluctuated according to a log-Weibull distribution. The resultant PDF for the critical-current spread that fits the histogram data of critical currents reported in literature was the gamma distribution. With the proposed distribution function, the corresponding PDF for the critical-current asymmetry parameter of a HTS dc SQUID was derived and compared with the experimental result. The proposed gamma distribution function is useful in modeling devices, such as the SQUID array and the superconducting quantum interference grating, consisting of many grain-boundary Josephson junctions.
