Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is one of the most well-known aquatic weeds as it causes problems in watercourses all over the world. This invasive species is fast-growing and thus has the potential for its use in preparing growth medium of microorganisms. Toward it, the pretreatment and enzymatic saccharification are positively the decisive processes. But there are other crucial processes, which are usually ignored by researchers. To the best of my knowledge, this presented work is the first time discovering that the juice obtained from water lettuce is valuable. Except for sterilization, no treatment is needed for the water lettuce’s juice and it can be directly served for cell growth. For Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Pichia pastoris, Bacillus subtilis, Lactococcus Lactis, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Lactobacillus plantarum, the cell density in the broth of water lettuce’s juice as the only carbon source is 10-60% higher than that in LB, YPD, BHI, M17, MRS. We then examined the production of microbial lipid by YM prepared in the juice of water lettuce. In comparison to commercial medium YM broth, the YM with juice caused 84% increase in the production of microbial lipid. A simple process of collecting juice notably increased productivity.
Design of Current Sensorless Control for Totem-Pole Boost PFC Converter

A simple current sensorless control for totem-pole boost converter is aimed to achieve superior power factor correction (PFC). In recent years, conduction loss and reverserecovery issues have been improved by the advanced power devices, and thus the converter’s efficiency and reliability are enhanced. Moreover, this converter topology has good potentiality for high-power applications. There are only two voltage sensors in both ac-side and dc-side for providing voltage information, which is an effective control strategy without current transducer. In addition, an equivalent singleswitch model of totem-pole boost PFC converter is offered that is an efficient approach to analyze the converter’s behaviors. Finally, some analytical results are given to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed current sensorless control method.
The Research of Image Retrieval based on Multi Feature DS Evidence Theory Fusion

The traditional image retrieval method is based on single feature retrieval method like color, texture, shape or multi feature weighted fusion method. The retrieval rate of existing methods is not high. This paper presents fusion multi feature image retrieval. Two kinds of feature play a complementary effect in retrieval. Most color feature can not reflect the spatial information of image. Texture is a regional characteristics which contains important spatial information of image. Fusing the color and texture feature can play their respective advantages. At the same time, avoiding the one-sidedness of single feature retrieval. Improving the retrieval accuracy and flexibility well.

Objective: The impact of serotonergic system on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is well studied. However, the correlation between OC presentations and autonomic nervous system (ANS) is still unclear. Furthermore, whether the correlation might be modulated by serotonin is also uncertain. Methods: We recruited eighty-nine healthy subjects. Serotonin transporter (SERT) availability by [123I]ADAM and heart rate variability (HRV) tests were measured. Symptoms checklist-90 was measured for the OC presentations. The interaction between HRV and SERT availability were calculated and the correlation between HRV and OC symptoms were analyzed after stratified SERT level into two groups, split at medium. Results: The interactions were significant in the factors of low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF), and root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD). Furthermore, the significantly negative correlations between OC symptoms and the above HRV indexes existed only in subjects with higher SERT availability. Conclusion: OC symptoms might be correlated with ANS regulations in subjects with higher SERT availability.
Preparation and properties of cement based piezoelectric composites modified by CNTs

In this study, cement based piezoelectric composites have been prepared from Portland cement with the addition of 70 vol.% of PZT powders and various amounts of modified CNTs ranging from 0 to 1.3 vol.%. The CNTs act as a conductive filler dispersed in the cement matrix, improving the poling efficiency of the composites and enabling the poling process to be carried out at room temperature, in contrast to the 120 ℃ required for the PZT/cement composites without CNTs. The addition of CNTs significantly enhanced the piezoelectric properties of the composites. With a CNT content of 0.3 vol.%, the CNTs/PZT/cement composite showed the highest piezoelectric strain factors (d_33) of 62 pC/N and piezoelectric voltage factors (g_33) 60 × 10^-3 Vm/N, which are the promising characteristics for its potential use in the smart civil engineering structures.
한국어 학습자의 어휘 추측 결과에 영향을 주는 요인들에 관한 구조적 연구

The purpose of this study is to examine the variables which could potentially contribute to vocabulary inference by learners of Korean. A total of 215 learners of Korean have been invited and among them 203 students were assessed in a questionnaire survey on vocabulary reasoning strategy, vocabulary learning attitude and vocabulary exposure experience. The results are as follows. First, according to factor analysis, three factors are found: vocabulary reasoning strategy, vocabulary learning attitude, and vocabulary exposure experience. In addition, based on structural equation modeling (SEM), vocabulary reasoning strategy and vocabulary learning attitude have a significant direct effect on vocabulary inference. Second, all of the three factors are positively correlated with one another. Third, vocabulary reasoning strategy and vocabulary learning attitude are strong predicators of vocabulary inference results.

The main goal of this thesis is aimed to compare the effects of peer-feedback and self-feedback on the process based korean language writing instruction. The study reviews existing literatures and conducts the survey to the research respondents, namely Taiwanese Advanced Korean Language learners, and Taiwanese Korean language instructors. Generally, the thesis has been divided into five chapters. The summary of each chapters is organized as follow. Chapter I presents the importances of research studies. The thesis emphasizes the importance and effects of using the peer-feedback and self-feedback during the process of teaching Korean language. Thus, the thesis first reviews the existing literatures which focus on the feedback effects on foreign language teaching and Korean language teaching. The process based writing instruction and feedback effects will be introduced. The patterns, effects and limitations of peer-feedback and self-feedback also will be discussed in this chapter. Then the thesis will bring forward the research question and its central argument. Chapter 2 will discuss theoretical framework and the trends of writing education theory. Furthermore, the concept of feedback on language education will be defined, following with its characteristics and patterns. Chapter 2 also will review the peer-feedback and self-feedback in the korean language education. The research methodology will be discussed in chapter 3. This chapter will introduces the target of experiments, process and the methods of how to conduct the experiments in detail. In chapter 4, the empirical results of research will be shown. The patterns of peer-feedback and self-feedback, conditions which reflects the feedback, feedback's effects and the opinions of feedback learners on the writing process will be described in this chapter. Chapter 5, which is the last part of this thesis will wrap up the research argument and empirical results. It also finally presents research limitations and some recommendations on teaching the korean language with peer-feedback and self-feedback teaching methods.

MED19 is a member of the Mediator that plays a key role in the activation and repression of signal transduction or the regulation of transcription in carcinomas. To tested the functional role of MED19 in human prostate cancer, we downregulated MED19 expression in prostate cancer cells (PC-3 and DU145) by lentivirus- mediated short hairpin (shRNA), and analyzed the effect of inhibition of MED19 on prostate cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. The in vitro prostate cancer cell proliferation, colony formation, and in vivo tumor growth in nude mice xenografts was significantly reduced after the downregulation of MED19. Knock- down of MED19 caused S-phase arrest and induced apoptosis via modulation of Bid and Caspase 7. It was suggested that MED19 serves as a novel proliferation regulator that promotes growth of prostate cancer cells. [BMB reports 2011; 44(8): 547-552]
