Static balancing of a spatial six-degree-of-freedom decoupling parallel mechanism

Taoran Liu,Feng Gao,Xianchao Zhao,Chenkun Qi 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.1

The static balancing of a spatial 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) decoupling parallel mechanism is discussed in this paper. Two traditionalapproaches (using counterweights and the springs) are used to statically balance the mechanism. Due to the existence of theirshortcomings, a hybrid approach is proposed based on the static balancing of the mechanism. The main feature of this mechanism is thatthe 3-DoF rotating part can be static balancing itself, which means that its mass has no effect on the gravity balancing of the system, forany configuration of the mechanism, so the rotating part can be considered as a whole and the calculation is simplified. Finally, examplesand dynamic analysis corresponding to the three balancing methods are given to illustrate the results.

      • Imperial Psychology in Britain’s Foreign Policy since 1945: From “Three Circles” to “Global Britain”

Zheng Taoran 아시아사회과학학회 2022 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.7 No.1

The integrated review document named Global Britain in a Competitive Age, published in March 2021, has once again triggered a discussion on the positioning of Britain s international role. As a de facto middle power, Britain has never given up its pursuit of great power status since World War II, scholars over the world have analyzed the reasons for this phenomenon from different perspectives, but not many studies have examined the impact of imperial psychology on British foreign policy. This paper selects imperial psychology as a research perspective, uses qualitative and case study research method, takes typical and major foreign policies as samples, such as “three-circle” policy, Britain s entry into the European Community, Falklands War, Blair s “new interventionist” foreign policy towards Kosovo and Iraq, Brexit and “Global Britain”, to examine the sources of imperial psychology, its characteristics, reasons for its existence, its manifestation in British foreign policy, positive and negative effects, and the reasons why it is still reflected in modern foreign policy. It is found that there are four characteristics of imperial psychology: the sphere of influence consciousness, superiority and suzerainty mentality, nostalgia, and great power mentality. Imperial psychology runs like a thread throughout the history of British foreign policy since 1945. The impacts of imperial psychology on British foreign policy are twofold, on the one hand, it helps Britain to perpetuate its status and influence as a great power, allows Britain to play a relatively bigger role in international affairs beyond its own capacity. On the other hand, it prevents Britain from properly defining its role in a timely manner and from setting its foreign policy goals in accordance with its available resources. The current Global Britain strategy also sets goals beyond UK s actual capabilities, it is more about appealing to voters than about actually achieving global power status. The paper concludes that a glorious imperial history has ingrained imperial psychology in the minds of British policy elites. Among all the factors that influenced post-war British foreign policy, imperial psychology is not the most important one, but it is at least the most persistent one. It has kept British policy makers reluctant to give up their quest for great power status, which has influenced British foreign policy both positively and negatively. This study lacks quantitative analysis, however, and can only determine that imperial psychology has indeed been influencing British foreign policy, not to what extent. Still, it can help modern people understand why Britain is so obsessed with global power status.

      • Research on the Formation of Scottish National Identity from the Perspective of Identity Politics

Hua Minchao,Zheng Taoran 아시아사회과학학회 2021 Jornal of Asia Social Science Vol.2 No.2

Although the lack of such obvious defining signs as language, ethnicorigin and religion, Scotland, as a nation different from England, has been widelyrecognized by various countries and regions including Britain. Combining the views ofnativism and constructivism, this paper discusses the formation of Scottish nationalidentity from four aspects: common region, common history, common others andintellectual elite creation. The establishment of Scottish national identity failed to bringabout the rise of Scottish nationalism, which, to some extent, showed that theestablishment of national identity was not consistent with the desire for politicalnationalism.

Validation of Analytical Methods for Plasma Total Antioxidant Capacity by Comparing with Urinary 8-Isoprostane Level

        ( Sang Gil Lee ),( Taoran Wang ),( Terrence M. Vance ),( Patrice Hurbert ),( Dae-ok Kim ),( Sung I. Koo ),( Ock K. Chun ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.2

Although several analytical methods for measuring total antioxidant capacity (TAC) have been applied to biological samples, there were often dissimilar results due to the different principles of methods applied. Thus, this study aimed to validate four conventional analytical methods for measuring plasma TAC, including the ABTS assay, DPPH assay, FRAP assay, and ORAC assay, by comparing with urinary 8-isoprostane concentration. In addition, TAC results were compared with antioxidant enzyme activities including superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase in erythrocyte, and catalase in plasma. Plasma TAC measure by ABTS assay was strongly correlated with the result by FRAP assay. Plasma TAC by FRAP and ORAC assays were negatively correlated with erythrocyte SOD activity. The agreement among the four TAC assay methods and 8-isoprostane was determined using 95% prediction limits of linear regression, expressed as the mean of 8-isoprostane ± 95% prediction limits. The ABTS method better agreed with 8-isoprostane than the other methods, demonstrating narrow prediction of limits. Furthermore, only plasma TAC determined by the ABTS assay was inversely correlated with urinary 8-isoprostane (r = -0.35, p < 0.05). In summary, the ABTS assay would be an appropriate method to measure overall plasma antioxidant capacity and predict the body`s antioxidant status.

Inkjet Catalyst Printing and Electroless Copper Deposition for Low-Cost Patterned Microwave Passive Devices on Paper

        Benjamin S. Cook,Yunnan Fang,Sangkil Kim,Taoran Le,W. Brandon Goodwin,Kenneth H. Sandhage,Manos M. Tentzeris 대한금속·재료학회 2013 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.9 No.5

A scalable, low-cost process for fabricating copper-based microwave components on flexible, paper-based substrates is demonstrated. An inkjet printer is used to deposit a catalyst-bearing solution (tailored for such printing) in a desired pattern on commercially-available, recyclable, non-toxic (Teslin®) paper. The catalystbearing paper is then immersed in an aqueous copper-bearing solution to allow for electroless deposition of a compact and conformal layer of copper in the inkjet-derived pattern. Meander monopole antennas comprised of such electroless-deposited copper patterns on paper exhibited comparable performance as for antennas synthesized via inkjet printing of a commercially-available silver nanoparticle ink. However, the solution-based patterning and electroless copper deposition process avoids nozzle-clogging problems and costs associated with noble metal particle-based inks. This process yields compact conductive copper layers without appreciable oxidation and without the need for an elevated temperature, post-deposition thermal treatment commonly required for noble metal particle-based ink processes. This low-cost copper patterning process is readily scalable on virtually any substrate and may be used to generate a variety of copper-based microwave devices on flexible, paper-based substrates.

Molecular dynamics study on mechanical properties of C-S-H composites

        Xianfeng Wang,Peng Wei,Rui Han,Wei Xie,Taoran Li,Dawang Li,Yonggang Peng,Zhen Chen,Feng Xing 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2019 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.20 No.S1

In this paper, the mechanical properties of calcium silicate hydrate gel (C-S-H) are investigated with molecular dynamics (MD)simulations, in which the Tobermorite 9Å, Tobermorite 11Å, Tobermorite 14Å and Jennite crystals are treated as fundamentalmodels of the C-S-H nanostructure. The initial structures of the crystal models are firstly preprocessed and optimized, andthen are simulated in the canonical (NVT) ensemble conditions. The orthotropic elastic constants of the C-S-H nanostructureare determined and used to derive the bulk and shear moduli via the Voigt-Reuss-Hill method. The self-consistent, Mori-Tanaka, and Voigt methods are employed to compute the mechanical properties of various mixtures of C-S-H composites withdifferent porosities. The simulated results are found to be in a reasonable agreement with those obtained from nanoindentationtests, while the result obtained from the Mori-Tanaka method appears to be the closest to the experimental one. It could also be observed that the mechanical properties of C-S-H vary within a certain range as the porosity and proportionsof the components change.

Policy Adjuster-driven Grid Workflow Management for Collaborative Heart Disease Identification System

        Deng, Shengzhong,Youn, Chan-Hyun,Liu, Qi,Kim, Hoe-Young,Yu, Taoran,Kim, Young-Hun Korea Information Processing Society 2008 Journal of information processing systems Vol.4 No.3

This paper proposes a policy adjuster-driven Grid workflow management system for collaborative healthcare platform, which supports collaborative heart disease diagnosis applications. To select policies according to service level agreement of users and dynamic resource status, we devised a policy adjuster to handle workflow management polices and resource management policies using policy decision scheme. We implemented this new architecture with workflow management functions based on policy quorum based resource management system for providing poincare geometrycharacterized ECG analysis and virtual heart simulation service. To evaluate our proposed system, we executed a heart disease identification application in our system and compared the performance to that of the general workflow system and PQRM system under different types of SLA.
