      • EXPLORING CONSUMERS’ ATTITUDINAL RESPONSE TO TERROR ATTACKS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY CONDUCTED IN FRANCE AND ISRAEL

        Tali Seger-Guttmann,Shaked Gilboa,Judith Partouche-Sebban 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2018 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2018 No.07

In recent years, terrorism has become one of the major world's concerns. According to the Institute for Economics and Peace (2016), among OECD member countries, deaths from terrorism have dramatically increased in 2015, rising by 650% relative to 2014. France stands as the country with the largest increase of deaths from 2014 to 2015. Recent terrorist attacks in France have triggered widespread awareness of this tragic phenomenon. Comparatively, Israel is a country that has experienced chronic terror attacks since the early 1960s, creating a high level of awareness that has become part of the citizen’s daily life, as attacks can occur in restaurants, bars, buses, and stores, or in the streets (Ben-David & Cohen-Louck, 2010). Due to their different experiences of terror, we chose to focus our study on France and Israel. In line with the terror management theory (Greenberg et al., 1986), which suggests that death reminders influence behaviors, these terror threats may have consequences on feelings of well-being (Maguen et al., 2008). Most studies concerning the effects of terrorism on consumer behaviour have focused on personal characteristics (Cohen-Louck, 2016). However, to the best of our knowledge, studies have yet to characterize customers' behaviors in different service situations in the wake of a terrorist attack and the factors influencing these behaviors. This will be the main contribution of the current study. A qualitative study has been conducted in France and Israel. We focused on both utilitarian (modes of transportation) and hedonic (cinema, restaurants, bars) services (Bradley & LaFleur, 2016). The study highlighted two specific criteria that could affect customer behavior: time from the terrorist attack and its proximity to the respondent. In-depth interviews were conducted with customers from France (22) and Israel (29; total n=51). Participants were interviewed on their behaviors, either immediately following a terror attack or one month after. Customer strategies were found to be similar and long termed in both France and Israel. However, Israeli customer responses are more personal and emotional, more detailed, more proactive in protecting themselves. The passage of time from the attack has less effect on Israelis’ chosen strategies. Among French respondents, the effect of time is evident: attacks have a significant impact on behaviours immediately after their occurrence, compared with a month later. Whereas the avoidance strategy is mainly adopted immediately after the attack, as time passes, there is a kind of resignation of the situation. The perception of internal vs. external control over one's life seems also to be an important variable that may explain behaviour in both groups.

Country Spread, Foreign Interest Rates, and Macroeconomic Fluctuations in Korea

Taly I,David Kim 한국경제연구학회 2013 Korea and the World Economy Vol.14 No.3

This paper examines the dynamic relations between the country spread and macroeconomic fluctuations in Korea using a structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) model as well as a calibrated equilibrium model due to Uribe and Yue (2006). Our empirical analysis shows that the country spread has a small but significant influence on the short-run macroeconomic activities of the Korean economy. We also find that the U.S. and Japanese interest rate shocks have quite different effects on the real activities in Korea. Finally, the calibrated model produces results that are largely consistent with the results from the SVAR model, although there are some gaps to be explained.

        상장 리츠시장의 효율성 점검

이태리 ( Taly I ),김계홍 ( Gye Hong Kim ),유승동 ( Seung Dong You ) 한국부동산분석학회 2016 不動産學硏究 Vol.22 No.2

We investigate market efficiency for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) that are traded in the Korean stock market. The Korean REITs market has a history of more than 15 years; it is believed that the market has a big potential of growth and REITs can play role of an investment vehicle that induces investment capital into real estate markets. Market efficiency for REITs can be critical because in an efficient market, investors can achieve normal returns and they can not achieve more than above average-returns. Using daily market prices for four REITs stocks from 2012 and 2015, we test weak form of efficient market hypothesis. The methodologies for our empirical evidence include an ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) model and both time-invariant and time-varying GARCH-M (Generalized AutoRegressive Conditional Heteroscedasticiy in Mean) Models. Our unique contribution to the literature is that with GARCH-M models our empirical evidence rejects the null hypothesis that Korean REIT stocks are efficient. We suggest that new REIT polices take account of the empirical evidence.

Retrofitting Notch Damaged Box Steel Beams with Composite Materials

Boshra El-Taly 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.8

An experimental program was designed to investigate the structural behavior of retrofitted notch damaged box steel beams usingFiber - Reinforced Polymer (FRP) under flexure up to failure. The experimental program included twelve box steel specimens; oneintact specimen, one notched specimen and ten notches damaged specimen and repaired with FRP sheets. All the tested beams have1000 mm length. The notches specimens were notched at the tension flanges at 400 mm distance from the beam edge to simulate alocalized and non-uniformly distributed deterioration along the beam length. The beams were repaired by bonding the FRP to thetension flange only, and the sheets were wrapped to cover a part of the two webs for the two beam halves or for the half of the beamthat includes the notch with different heights. All the tested beams were simulated using a Finite Element (FE) program, and the FEmodel gives good results in comparison with the test results. The presented results indicate that wrapping CFRP sheet around the twowebs for the half of the beam that includes the notch only gives an acceptable structural performance in comparing with wrappingCFRP sheet around the two webs for two halves of the beam and in this beam, the difference in the deflections of the two halves ofthe beam at the ultimate load does not increase than 3.2%.

Strain-Dependent Constitutive Modelling of AZ80 Magnesium Alloy Containing 0.5 wt% Rare Earth Elements and Evaluation of Its Validation Using Finite Element Method

        Mahzad Zohoori Tali,Mohammad Mazinani,Mahmoud Reza Ghandehari Ferdowsi,Gholam Reza Ebrahimi,Mohammad Marvi-Mashhadi 대한금속·재료학회 2014 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.20 No.6

In order to evaluate the hot flow behaviour of AZ80 magnesium alloy containing 0.5 wt% rare earth elements, isothermal hot compression tests were conducted at the temperatures range of 250-450 °C under the strainrates of 0.001-1 s1. The flow curves exhibited a peak stress at a small applied strain after which the flowstresses decrease gradually to a steady state flow stress at higher applied strain values representing theoccurrence of dynamic recrystallization. Moreover, the material constants in the Zener-Hollomon constitutiveequation were found to be strain dependent, and the relationships between these parameters and theapplied true strain were well described by fourth-degree polynomial functions. Accordingly, a strain-dependentmodel was developed in order to predict the hot flow behaviour of AZ80+0.5RE magnesium alloy. The truestresses predicted by this model were found to be in good agreements with the experimental results. Furthermore, the constitutive model developed using the experimental results was incorporated in the finiteelement model with which the hot compressive flow curve of the investigated material was modeled. Theresults showed that the accuracy of flow curves calculated by the numerical simulations depends on theaccuracy of the developed model. • GIVING MEANING TO PLACES OF DESTRUCTION: THE IMPACT OF VISITING HOLOCAUST SITES ON ISRAELI JEWS

        Mark S. Rosenbaum,Drew Martin,Tali Seger-Guttmann 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

From a marketer’s perspective, place is only a sacrosanct component of the marketing mix (McCarthy, 1960), and extends into services’ “7Ps” (Grӧnroos, 1994). The servicescape literature explores how stimuli present within commercial consumption settings or servicescapes impact consumer behaviors (Rosenbaum & Massiah, 2011). Arguably, marketers view place as exchange locales, and they do not understand the evocative role that they assume in consumers’ lives (Sherry, 2000). Within cultural geography, places represent “profound centres of human existence” (Relph, 1976, p. 43). Place is a triad comprising of a physical setting, activities, and meanings (see Relph, 1976). This paper investigates how Israeli Jews attribute meanings to places associated with their destruction during the Holocaust (1939 – 1945). Respondents were eight Jewish Israelis who recently participated in the educational Holocuast sojourn (i.e, Warsaw Ghetto, Treblinka, and Aushwitz). Using long interviews, the authors put forth a framework that shows how the participants assign place-based meanings on four dimensions. The individual dimension reflects how the tour personally impacts visitors’ lives. The communal dimension, explores the trip impact’s the individual’s view towards Israel and Israeli nationalism (Zionism). The religiosity dimension reflects tour’s impact on a participant’s self-identity as a Jew (e.g., secular, conservative, Orthodox). Lastly, the global dimension explores the trip’s impact on a participant’s identity as a human being in a global world. Did the trip alter a participant’s views towards mankind, towards genocide, and universal lessons that everyone may learn from the Holocaust? Results help to understand the evocative role that places often assume in consumers’ lives. Place no longer seem as inert; instead, spaces imbued with meanings impact lives, experiences, and even one’s overall well-being. From a broader perspective, the results suggest a different role that consumption settings may assume in consumers’ lives. Places may impact consumers on multiple levels, and the essence of understanding the profound bonds that consumers often form with places, originates not from the functions that places serve, but rather, from the meanings that consumers often assign to place.

Clinical, virological, imaging and pathological findings in SARS CoV-2 antibody positive cat

        Kursat Ozer,Aysun Yilmaz,Mariano Carossino,Gulay Yuzbasioglu Ozturk,Ozge Erdogan Bamac,Hasan E. Tali,Egemen Mahzunlar,Utku Y. Cizmecigil,Ozge Aydin,Hamid B. Tali,Semaha G. Yilmaz,Zihni Mutlu,Ayse Ilgı 대한수의학회 2022 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.23 No.4

This paper reports a presumptive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in a cat. A cat with respiratory disease living with three individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 showed bilateral ground-glass opacities in the lung on X-ray and computed tomography. The clinical swabs were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA, but the serum was positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. Interstitial pneumonia and prominent type 2 pneumocyte hyperplasia were noted on histopathology. Respiratory tissues were negative for SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antigen, but the cat was positive for feline parvovirus DNA. In conclusion, the respiratory disease and associated pathology in this cat could have been due to exposure to SARS-CoV-2.

Alcohol Drinks Induce Acute Lowering in Circulating l-Arginine in Obese and Type 2 Diabetic Subjects

        Assaf Buch,Tali Ganz,Julio Wainstein,Suzan Gilad,Rona Limor,Gabi Shefer,Mona Boaz,Naftali Stern 한국식품영양과학회 2022 Journal of medicinal food Vol.25 No.6

Since low serum l-arginine (Arg) and high asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) can predict microvascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), we tested whether Arg and ADMA are affected by diet and physical activity in overweight/obese and T2DM subjects. We tested the effects on serum Arg and ADMA of single loads of dextrose, protein, fat, or alcohol (∼300 calories each); one episode of physical exercise; and 12 weeks of standard lifestyle modification (dietary and physical activity counseling). Alcohol drink was followed by ∼30% lowering in Arg. Arg and ADMA increased after a protein load but remained stable after glucose or fat load or 30 min of treadmill walk. Following 12 weeks of lifestyle modification, ADMA declined only in subjects achieving weight loss >5%. In conclusion, alcohol is a previously unrecognized acute suppressor of serum Arg. Lifestyle modification lowers ADMA in subjects who achieve weight loss >5%. Clinical Trial Registration Number: NCT04406402.
