Vol.64 No.4
This paper examines literary texts through lens of cyberfeminism. To do that, it first explains the definition of digital literature and help to understand the wide range of new literary genres which can only be read and written on digital media. Second, the paper traces down the historical meanings of cyberfeminism that emerged in late 1980s and advocated female experiences in the digital era through female authors’ texts. In the last chapter, the paper closely analyzes the digital literary works of YHCHI which consists of a duo, Korean woman poet and media artist, Young-Hae Chang and her American partner, Marc Vorge. It focuses on their unique qualities that set them apart from those of her western counterparts in the 1990’s in terms of both contents and forms. By doing so, this research aims at helping understand how digital literary texts can properly reflect the 21st new cyber environment and generate literature forms that fit the current digitized society.
Vol.47 No.4
This paper is to examine Louise Erdrich’s Love Medicine with M. Bakhtin’s ethical approach. It is done by analyzing the crisis aspect of civilization in Native American life and exploring a concept of ethics of the other which Erdrich tries to represent through her novel. Native American way of life is based on object-centered ethics, free from subject-centered ethics which is the main characteristic of the western civilization. Native Americans are forced to assimilate into the American culture and catholic religion, but under the object-centered ethics they successfully establish their identities, restore relationships, and build a real sense of community. This course has the same way with Bakhtinian ethics of the other. According to Bakhtin, because all the events of the life are closely related to the involvement of others, I-subject is necessarily oriented towards other, and in order to be real subject in the life, subject has to be answerable to other by doing responsible acts. This concept of ethics is directly reflected in Native American life, and the novel hereby presents us the possibility of recovering from the crisis of civilization. (Chonnam National University)
영화, <파워 오브 도그>(The Power of the Dog, 2021)에 나타난 인물 간 심리 역학관계 연구
Vol.61 No.2
This article explores Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog released in 2021 from the psychoanalytic lens. Although emulating those of the traditional western movies in terms of cinematography and mise en scene like The Stagecoach(1939) or The Magnificent Seven(1960), I argue that this movie deals with the psychological power dynamic between main characters including Phil, George, Rose and Peter as the previous movies of Jane Campion such as The Piano(1993) and A Bright Star(2009). The article focuses on Phil’s multi-layered emotional/psychological relationship with other characters hinting the fact he hides his sexual identity as a gay man. To do so, the article explains what kinds of cinematic forms the movie embraces to deliver the contents of toxic masculinity that traditional western movies praised. Also it analyzes the psychological wrestling between Phil and George, Phil and Rose, and Phil and Peter to read this movie as a thriller genre.
No association of prion protein gene polymorphisms withAlzheimer’s disease in Korean population
Kyungsook Ahn,Eunkyung Kim,Young-A Kwon,김도관,Jong-Eun Lee,안상미 생화학분자생물학회 2006 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.38 No.6
The polymorphism at codon 129 (M129V) of the human prion protein gene (PRNP) is a known risk factor for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) in Cau-casians. There are few reports of this polymor-phisms effect on memory and on the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The M129V genotype distributions among Asians are very different from Caucasians. Another polymorphism, codon 219 two polymorphisms of PRNP, M129V (rs1799990) and E219K (rs1800014) in 297 Korean AD patients and 217 healthy subjects. The analysis of the genotype and allele distributions showed no significant difference between the AD patients and the controls in both polymorphisms (P=0.19 geno-type, P=0.51 allele for M129V; P=0.64 genotype, P=0.50 allele for E219K). Also, the PRNP po-lymorphisms were not significantly asso-ciated with AD when the populations were stratified for the presence or absence of apolipoprotein E-ε4 (ApoE-ε4) allele. These results suggest that the PRNP genetic variants are not associated with the risk for AD in Korean population.
Analysis of the Landscape Image of the Seoul City Wall with the Naksan Section
(J East Asian Landscape Studies) Vol.12 No.1
The purpose of this study is to analyze the landscape image of the Seoul City Wall, focusing on the external restoration without paying attention to the landscape. To derive the results, data were collected from a domestic portal site and the original text of documents and used as the basic data for the study. As a result, 21 landscape image keywords related to the “Naksan course” were derived, and the correlation of the extracted keywords was analyzed. First, the landscape image of the Naksan section does not mean the characteristics of the place, but rather how it has been perceived as a physical element of the city for about 600 years. Second, the landscape image of the Naksan section can be divided into positive and negative images according to people’s reasons for visiting. Visitors pursuing a positive physical activity had a positive image, while those pursuing a passive activity had a negative image. Third, there is a need for a variety of landscape elements that can bring out the emotions of the visitors, because landscape images are derived in various ways. In this study, the Naksan section was the sole focus, and landscape image studies of the other sections are still ongoing, so visitors need to understand the landscape image needed for the Seoul City Wall and discuss the direction it should go. In addition, technical studies should be conducted to make up for the limitations of the text mining method used here to derive the results.
