많은 산림의 임상에는 특유의 분해과정에 있는 목질의 도복고사목이 존재하며, 이는 식물, 동물의 서식처가 되고 미생물의 다양성을 제공한다. 분해급 III-V의 Douglus-fir의 목질부 시료를 넣은 리치튜브에 물오리나무(Alus hirsuta)와 루브라오리나무(A. rubra)를 파종하고 온실에서 재배 실험한 결과, 두 수종 모두 근류가 형성되어 분해중인 도복고사목에 감염성 Frankia가 존재함을 시사하였다. 압열멸균한 시료에선 생육이 매우 불량하였고 근류가 형성되지 않았다. 도복고사목 내의 Frankia의 존재로 목질 유기물이 공생 질소고정 균의 근원이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 산림생태계 내의 목질 유기물이 산림이 장기 생산력에 기여하는 系의 구조적 다양성과 생물적 다양성을 창조하고 유지시킨다는 것을 시사한다. Fallen and decomposing woody debris are conspicuous features of the forest floor in many natural forests. They provide habitats for plants, animals, and a diversity of microorganism. Seeds of Alus hirsuta and Alus rubra were sown in leach tubes containing Douglas-fir woody debris of decay class III-V. In greenhouse studies, wood samples induced effective nodule formation in Alus hirsuta and A. rubra, indicating that the fallen trees contained infections and effective Frankia. Alder on sterilized wood substrates grew poorly and did not nodulate. The preserve of infective Frankia in dead, fallen trees suggests that woody debris is a source of symbiotic nitrogen-fixing organism. The results suggest that coarse woody debris create and maintain structural and biological diversity that contributes to forest long-term productivity. Objectives: This study was designed to assess neuroprotective effects of herb medicine against Alzhheimer`s disease related brain damage in organotypic hippocampal slice culture. Methods: We induced dementia related brain damage in organotypic hippocampal slices by β-amyloid. Those slices were treated with herb medicines-Hwangryeonhaedoktang, Sopungsoongiwon. Using by PI staining, the extents of cell death were assessed. After that, we selected the best effective one among those herb medicines and the major components of that medicine were studied to reveal neuroprotective effects and related proteins by using PI stating. Results: In PI staining, Sopungsoongiwon is the best effective herb medicine between Hwangryeonhaedoktang and Sopungsoongiwon. Notopterygii Rhizoma, Corni Fructus, Areca Catechu, Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, Plantaginis Semen is the best effective one among the components of Sopungsoongiwon. Conclusions: We suggested that purgative effect would be the best effetive medicine on dementia related brain damage between clearing heat and toxic materials.

This study is object to structural analysis of continuous casting nickel-coated mold. A two-dimensional finite element model was developed to compute the temperature distribution, stress and strain behavior for continuous casting nickel-coated mold. For structural analysis using thermal analysis result from FEM code. In other to structural analysis of continuous casting nickel-coated mold, many variables such as casting speed, cooling condition, film coefficient, convection and load condition are considered.
Elevated plasma YKL-40 level is found in the dogs with cancer and is related to poor prognosis

YKL-40, a secreted glycoprotein, may serve as an autoantigen, which mediates multipleinflammatory diseases and cancers. A high YKL-40 serum level is correlated with metastasisand poor survival in a variety of human cancers. However, the role of YKL-40 in dogs is stillunder evaluation. Herein, we examined the associations between plasma YKL-40 level andYKL-40 autoantibody (YAA) titers with malignancy and prognosis in canine cancer. Plasmalevels of YKL-40 in healthy dogs (n = 20) and in dogs (n = 82) with cancer were evaluatedusing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Our results indicated that plasma YKL-40 levelswere significantly higher (p < 0.01) in dogs with cancer than in healthy dogs. A significantdecrease in the YAA titers was detected in the dogs with cancer when compared with thoseof the healthy dogs (p < 0.05), although the change was not correlated with the YKL-40levels. Among the dogs with cancer, plasma YKL-40 levels in the dogs that later relapsed orhad metastasis were significantly higher than in the dogs with no signs of relapse (p < 0.01)or metastasis (p <0.05). The relapse and metastasis rates were significantly higher in thehigh YKL-40 group (> 180 pg/mL) than in the low YKL-40 group (< 180 pg/mL). The resultsimply that plasma YKL-40 levels might have the potential to be developed as a marker ofmalignancy progression and prognosis in canine cancers.

The change of protein synthesis by heat shock has been studied showing some alterations in translation elongation step in addition to initiation step. In heat shocked Drosophila cells the elongation rate on control messages is slower than that of on heat shock messages. EF-1α has been considered as a candidate for the altered factor by heat-shock, which might discriminate heat shock messages vs control messages in Drosophila cells. To find the regulatory role of EF-1α on protein synthesis in Drosophila Kc cells, disposition of EF-1α from heat shocked and control Kc cells on Non-equilibrium pH gradient two-dimensional gel (NEPHGE) was examined. No disposition change of EF-1α from heat shocked cells was observed on NEPHGE compared to that of control cells implying that EF-1α itself was not post-translationaly modified by heat shock. For the study of EF-1α expression in Kc cells under stress condition, EF-1α gene, F1 has been cloned and the expression of EF-1α gene was investigated in Kc cells showing that Kc cells have two EF-1α genes and only one gene is expressed under normal condition.
