姚婧超, 정해준, 김동찬, 이진희, 권민훈, 서병기 배재대학교 자연과학연구소 2013 自然科學論文集 Vol.24 No.1

This study was conducted to investigate optimum planting date and pinching times on the growth and flowering of garden chrysanthemum(Dendranthema grandiflorum Ramat.). 3 lines of garden mums were planted on May 16, June 13 and July 11 respectively. As planting date was delayed, all the 3 lines' plant height and plant width was reduced. 09-19-49 line got the biggest plant height and width, followed by 09-11-37 line. And 08-166-02 line was the smallest. In different planting times, the experiment group of May 16 and June 13 got the biggest plant height, plant width and stem diameter. However, in the experiment group of May 16, most of the plants got flattened. The experiment group of June 13 got the best ornamental value, and the ornamental value was reduced in the experiment group of July 11 by the short vegetative growth. 09-19-49 line got the most flowers, while in different planting time, the experiment group of May 16 got the most flowers. 09-11-37 line got the biggest flower diameter. 09-11-37 line and 09-09-51 line were planted in the containers on the rooftop. Each groups were pinched by 1, 2 and 3 times on July 2, July 26 and Aug 16 respectively. There was no effect on plant height, plant width, and stem diameter of 09-09-51 line and 09-11-37 line between 1-time-pinching group and 2-time-pinching group. But 3-time-pinching group was reduced. There was no significance in flower diameter of these two lines but the number of flowers was reduced by more pinching times. Therefore, in this experiment, the groups which were planted on June 13 got the best ornamental value and the recommended planting time is in the middle of June. Furthermore, 2 times of pinching was recommended.

Melia azedarach extract stimulates melanogenesis through increase of tyrosinase-related protein 1 expression in B16F10 mouse melanoma cells.

Yao, Cheng,Jin, Cheng Long,Oh, Inn Gyung,Park, Chi-Hyun,Chung, Jin Ho UNKNOWN 2015 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE Vol.35 No.6

Melia azedarach (MA) has been used in folk medicine in Asia for the treatment of several diseases. Several constituents from MA possess anti-herpetic, anti-angiogenic and anticancer properties. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of a 70% ethanol extract of MA on melanogenesis and the underlying mechanisms involved. A B16F10 mouse melanoma cell line was used in our experiments. Treatment of B16F10 cells with the MA extract (10, 20 and 40 ?g/ml) increased melanin content in a concentration-dependent manner without cytotoxicity at 24 h. Further experiments indicated that the MA extract (20 ?g/ml) increased melanin content as early as at 4 h after treatment. Additionally, although the MA extract did not affect intracellular tyrosinase activity and the protein levels of tyrosinase and tyrosinase-related protein-2 (TRP-2) at 2 and 4 h after treatment, the MA extract increased TRP-1 protein expression at both time points. However, no significant effect of the MA extract treatment on TRP-1 mRNA level at the time points measured was observed. In conclusion, the results from the present study demonstrate that the MA extract increases melanogenesis through the upregulation of TRP-1 protein expression by post-transcriptional control in B16F10 cells and suggest that the MA extract can be viewed as a rapid inducer of melanogenesis, thus rendering it a potential treatment for hypopigmentation diseases including vitiligo.

      • Ardisia crenata extract stimulates melanogenesis in B16F10 melanoma cells through inhibiting ERK1/2 and Akt activation.

        Yao, Cheng,Jin, Cheng Long,Oh, Jang-Hee,Oh, Inn Gyung,Park, Chi-Hyun,Chung, Jin Ho SPANDIDOS PUBLICATIONS 2015 MOLECULAR MEDICINE REPORTS Vol.11 No.1

Melanin protects the skin against ultraviolet radiation by scattering incoming light and absorbing diverse free radicals. Agents that increase melanin synthesis in melanocytes may reduce the risk of photodamage and skin cancer. The present study investigated the effect of a methanol extract of Ardisia crenata (AC) on melanogenesis in B16F10 cells. Treatment of cultured B16F10 cells with AC extract (10, 20 and 40 ?g/ml) stimulated an increase in melanin levels in a concentration-dependent manner, without cytotoxicity. Tyrosinase is key in the regulation of melanin production, thus the effect of AC extract on tyrosinase activity and protein expression was analyzed. AC extract was observed to significantly increase tyrosinase activity and protein expression in B16F10 cells. Furthermore, AC extract was found to markedly increase the protein expression of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor, which is an important transcription factor involved in tyrosinase gene expression. In addition, AC extract (40 ?g/ml) was observed to suppress the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and Akt, which negatively regulate melanin synthesis in B16F10 cells. In conclusion, to the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to show that a methanol extract of AC stimulates melanogenesis by increasing tyrosinase expression via the inhibition of ERK and Akt. Thus, methanol extract of AC may be a potential treatment for hypopigmentation diseases and may be a candidate for skin-tanning cosmetic products.

Toll-like receptor family members in skin fibroblasts are functional and have a higher expression compared to skin keratinocytes

        YAO, CHENG,OH, JANG-HEE,LEE, DONG HUN,BAE, JUNG-SOO,JIN, CHENG LONG,PARK, CHI-HYUN,CHUNG, JIN HO UNKNOWN 2015 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE Vol.35 No.5

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are known to recognize not only pathogen-associated molecular patterns but also danger-associated molecular patterns. Recent studies have characterized the expression levels and functions of TLRs in human epidermal cells. However, the characteristics of TLR family members in human dermal fibroblasts have not been thoroughly studied. Therefore, the present study systematically investigated the expression levels of TLRs and their functional responses to each ligand in skin fibroblasts. All 10 TLRs are expressed in skin fibroblasts. Stimulation of skin fibroblasts with each TLR ligand resulted in an increase of the interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8 and matrix metalloproteinase-1 proteins, indicating that 9 TLRs in skin fibroblasts are functionally active. Furthermore, stimulating skin fibroblasts with TLR1/2, 3 and 4 ligands induced the phosphorylation of inhibitor of nuclear factor κBα and the active phosphorylation of extracellular-signal regulated kinase 1/2. The expression level of each TLR was much higher in fibroblasts compared to keratinocytes. In particular, the fold-increase in IL-6 and IL-8 mRNA levels upon exposure to a TLR1/2 ligand was much higher in fibroblasts compared to keratinocytes, which appears to reflect the difference in expression levels of TLR1 and 2 between fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Taken together, these results show that all 10 TLRs are constitutively expressed and functional (except TLR10) in skin fibroblasts and suggest that TLRs in skin fibroblasts may play an important role in the detection of and response to different classes of pathogens and danger signals.

The present study was designed to isolate and characterize novel chemical constituents of the stem bark of Juglans mandshurica Maxim. (Juglandaceae). The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by various chromatographic techniques. The structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of spectral data (1D and 2D NMR, HR-ESI-MS, CD, UV, and IR) and by the comparisons of spectroscopic data with the reported values in the literatures. Two long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (1 and 2) were obtained and identified as (S)-(8E, 10E)-12-hydroxy-7-oxo-8, 10-octadecadienoic acid (1) and (S)-(8E, 10E)-12-hydroxy-7-oxo-8,10-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester (2). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the isolation and structural elucidation of the two new conjugated ketonic fatty acids from this genus.

Recent advances in carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites: A review

        Yao, Shan-Shan,Jin, Fan-Long,Rhee, Kyong Yop,Hui, David,Park, Soo-Jin Elsevier 2018 Composites Part B, Engineering Vol.142 No.-

Abstract

Carbon fibers (CFs) have high specific tensile strength, high modulus, and outstanding wear resistance, and are widely used for the reinforcement of advanced composite materials. CF-reinforced thermoplastic composites have received much attention because of their easy processability and recycling convenience compared with thermosetting composites. Surface treatment of CFs is generally employed to increase the surface functional groups and interfacial adhesion between the CFs and the surrounding polymer matrix. In this review, we explore recent advances in the surface treatment of CFs and preparation of CF/thermoplastic composites. The thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties of the composites are also discussed.

        Wei Jin,Jingjing Tan,Jiaxin Yan,Yao Tao,Ningning Yao,Xiaomeng Ruan,Cuijin Pei 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2021 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.22 No.6

The normative solid-state reaction process was adopted to prepare Li3Mg4NbO8 ceramics with LiF addition. We investigatedthe impacts of LiF additive on the crystal structure, sinterabillity as well as dielectric performance at microwave region of theLi3Mg4NbO8-basic ceramics. XRD analysis confirmed that the addition of LiF to Li3Mg4NbO8 lead to the formation of newphase Li4Mg4NbO8F with cubic rock salt structure. The densified temperature of Li3Mg4NbO8-basic ceramics could beeffectively reduced from 1150 oC to 900 oC with LiF addition. Both the permitivity (εr) and quality factor (Qf) of presentceramics were is closely correlated with the bulk density and cell volume. The 900 oC-sintered Li3Mg4NbO8-basic ceramicsowned excellent chemical compatibility with silver and optimized microwave dielectric performance (εr ~13. 4, Qf ~ 32,400GHz at 9.4 GHz, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf) ~ -43.0 ppm/℃).

Development and Validation of Web-Based Nomograms to Precisely Predict Survival Outcomes of Non-metastatic Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in an Endemic Area

        Ji-Jin Yao,Li Lin,Tian-Sheng Gao,Wang-Jian Zhang,Wayne R. Lawrence,Jun Ma,Ying Sun 대한암학회 2021 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.53 No.3

Purpose This study aimed to develop web-based nomograms to precisely predict survival outcomes in patients with non-metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in an endemic area. Materials and Methods A total of 10,126 patients who underwent radical intensity-modulated radiotherapy at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center (SYSUCC) from 2009 to 2015 were analyzed. We assigned patients into a training cohort (SYSUCC-A, n=6,751) and an internal validation cohort (SYSUCC-B, n=3,375) based on computer-generated random numbers. Patients collected from Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital (WZRCH) between 2012 and 2015 were used as the independent external validation cohort (WZRCH, n=450). Concordance index (C-index) was used to determine predictive accuracy and discriminative ability for the nomogram. The web-based clinicopathologic prediction models for predicting survival were based on Cox regression. Results The C-indexes for SYSUCC-A, SYSUCC-B, and WZRCH cohorts for the established nomograms to predict 3-year overall survival (OS) was 0.736, 0.715, and 0.691. Additionally, C-indexes to predict 3-year distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) was 0.717, 0.706, and 0.686, disease-free survival (DFS) was 0.713, 0.697, and 0.656, local relapse-free survival was 0.695, 0.684, and 0.652, and regional relapse-free survival was 0.672, 0.650, and 0.616. The calibration plots showed great agreement between nomogram-predicted 3-year survival outcomes and actual 3-year survival outcomes. Moreover, C-indexes of the nomograms for OS, DMFS, and DFS were significantly superior than TNM stage (p < 0.001 for all). Conclusion These user-friendly nomograms can precisely predict survival endpoints in patients with non-metastatic NPC. They may serve as a useful tool for providing patient counseling and help physicians to make individual follow-up plans.
