PURPOSE:: Autologous serum eye drops are considered to be safe and efficient for the treatment of dry eyes associated with Sjögren syndrome (SS). The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical efficacies of autologous serum eye drops in the management of primary and secondary SS. METHODS:: Patients with primary (n = 20; 35 eyes) and secondary (n = 14; 27 eyes) SS dry eye were included. Serum concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin (IL)-1&bgr;, IL-6, and IL-8] were measured by a multiplex immunobead assay. The ocular symptom scores, ocular staining grades, and tear break-up time were evaluated before and after 4 weeks of 50% autologous serum eye drop application. RESULTS:: At enrollment, patients with secondary SS had higher serum proinflammatory cytokine levels (tumor necrosis factor α, IL-1&bgr;, IL-6, and IL-8) than patients with primary SS (P < 0.01). After 4 weeks of autologous serum eye drop treatment, patients with primary SS had significantly improved ocular symptoms (P < 0.01), ocular surface staining grades (P < 0.01), and tear break-up time (P < 0.05). However, patients with secondary SS had no improvement (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS:: Our results suggest that autologous serum eye drops might not be effective for the treatment of secondary SS because of elevated serum proinflammatory cytokine levels.

Increasingly stringent exhaust emission regulations, which are expected to come into force within the next couple of years will require substantial reduction of NOx as well as particulate emissions. The small-bore, 01 Diesel engines currently being developed may have to use than 50% recirculated exhaust gas in the intake charge to control NOx emission. The compact geometry of the intake systems may lead to mixing problem with these large quantities of EGR and fresh air prior to induction into the cylinder, and lead to cylinder-to-cylinder maldistribution. This maldistribution could possibly result in a situation where is excessive NOx emissions from cylinders getting too little EGR, along with excessive smoke emissions from those cylinders that get too much EGR. In this work, numerical simulation is applied to improve cylinder-to-cylinder distribution of EGR in a 1.5-L Direct-Injection (DI) Diesel engine using 3D CFD coupled with ID engine cycle simulation. Through a combined effort of modeling, design and simulation, manifolds were developed that improved EGR distribution over the original manifolds while minimizing design changes to engine components. The results confirm the capabilities of the CFD, and in addition illustrate interesting insight regarding the cylinder-to-cylinder EGR distribution.

Purpose: To compare the visual outcomes and corneal aberrations between wavefront-optimized (WFO) and corneal wavefront-guided (WFG) photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in low to moderate myopia. Methods: Twenty-seven eyes treated with WFO and 29 eyes treated with WFG PRK using a Schwind Amaris 750S Excimer laser were included after 6 months of postoperative follow-up. Uncorrected distance visual acuity, corrected distance visual acuity, refractive errors, corneal higher-order aberrations (HOA) and corneal thickness obtained using a Scheimpflug system, and central ablation depth and volume were evaluated during the preoperative period and again at the postoperative 6-month visits. Results: Postoperatively, uncorrected distance visual acuity, corrected distance visual acuity, manifest spherical equivalent, and refractive astigmatism were improved in both groups, and there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. There was no significant difference in safety, efficacy, or predictability of the refractive outcome. Postoperative total corneal HOA root mean square (RMS), coma RMS, and spherical aberration were significantly increased in both groups. Among these, only spherical aberration showed a significant difference between the two groups, with greater increase in the WFO group at 6 months postoperatively. The changes in corneal HOA RMS and spherical aberration were smaller in the WFG group, and this benefit was marked in eyes with high HOA RMS (≥0.4 μm) and spherical aberration (≥0.2 μm). Even though ablation volume in the WFG group was much larger than that of the WFO group, there was no significant difference in postoperative central and peripheral corneal thickness between the two groups. Conclusions: Both WFO and WFG PRK using a Schwind Amaris 750S laser for low to moderate myopia were safe and effective at improving visual and refractive outcomes. However, WFG PRK induced fewer spherical aberrations than WFO PRK and may be more advantageous for eyes with high HOA root mean square or spherical aberration.

고체추진기관의 초음속 제트 속에서는 다양한 소음들이 발생된다. 본 연구에서는 로켓 모타의 배기가스에 물을 분사하고, 디퓨져 및 스택을 설치하여 초음속 제트에서 발생되는 소음을 억제할 수 있는 장치를 설계 및 제작하는 기술을 확보하는데 있다. 물분사 소음디퓨저를 연소시험용 로켓 모타에 적용하여 약 20dB의 소음저감효과를 얻었다. In the supersonic jet of a solid rocket motor, various noise is investigated. The purpose of this study is to attain and evaluating a design and manufacturing technique of the SRM noise reduction. In this study, the water is injected into the supersonic jet of the SRM to reduce the noise. Furthermore, the diffuser and stack are installed to suppress the SRM noise. Through the SRM ground tests, the noise is reduced approximately 20dBA with application of the diffuser/stack with water injection.

3-D simulation of the soot mass loading and high temperature regeneration of coated diesel particulate filter (CPF) downstream of the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) in a 2.0-L EURO Ⅳ diesel engine have been performed successfully using CFD code. The investigations were focused on the approach flow of the DOC and the CPF, soot load distribution inside the CPF and duration and accuracy of the soot burn out and high temperature CPF regeneration.
A Wideband CMOS Noise-Canceling Low-Noise Amplifier With High Linearity

<P>This letter presents a wideband noise-canceling LNA focusing on canceling IMD2 and IMD3. By using a complementary CMOS parallel push-pull structure, the IMD2 is cancelled. The modified noise-canceling circuit properly suppresses the IMD3. Although the optimum canceling points for the noise and distortions are different, the noise figure is not degraded by the choice. The LNA implemented in a 65 nm CMOS process delivers an IIP2 of 25 dBm, an IIP3 of 5.5 dBm with a power gain of 13 dB and an noise figure of 2.1-3.5 dB in a frequency range from 0.1 to 1.6 GHz. The power consumption is 20.8 mW at 1.2 V and the chip area is only 0.014 mm<SUP>2</SUP>.</P>
Control of the spin-orbit coupling by gate voltage in semiconductor FET structures

We demonstrate that the strength of the spin-orbit (SO) coupling can be controlled systematically by gate voltage (VG) in HgCdTe FET structures. This indicates that the Rashba eect can be controlled by the external bias. The strength of the SO coupling is estimated from the weak antilocalization(WAL) eect. The experimental data are tted by using the D'yakonov-Perel (DP) mechanism, and the SO coupling strength is much larger than those of other materials. This strong Rashba eect is an unique feature of HgCdTe FET, which originates from both strong intrinsic SO coupling of HgCdTe and high structural inversion asymmetry of our device. It provides a great advantage over other materials for spin manipulation in semiconductor spin devices.
