When "World Literature" Becomes "World" Literature

Traditionally, world literature has been mainly, or even exclusively, European literature, and even literature in a few "major" European languages at that. Of late, efforts have been made to reconfigure world literature by expanding its canon and re-thinking the relationships between works, authors, and literatures. Most visible in this respect have been a number of anthologies of world literature. However, while definitely reaching beyond Europe in their selections, these anthologies also reconfigure literature around the world, and by implication the world itself, according to the needs or interests of their makers and users, often against the ostensible theoretical points of departure or intentions of those makers. Not coincidentally, such anthologies originate from the United States, and are in English. As such they risk replacing one "centrism" with another while claiming to do the opposite. Instead, and without exactly opting for a "United Nations" version of world literature, we need to truly "world" world literature. However, how to do this, and what the role of English and English-language literature might be in this, raises major questions.

The Purpose of this study to investigate the relationship of sports activity participation to subjective euphoria of office workers. To achieve this purpose, the subjects were selected by cluster random sampling of adults, in Daejon, in 2002 at present. There were 273 male, 215 female used for the analysis. The total was 489. Data were collected by employing a questionnaire. The variables of this analysis were demographic characteristics, sports activity participation, subjective happiness(positive affect scale and negative affect scale). The questionnaire for Life satisfaction had been developed by Diener, Emmons, Lersen & Griffin(1992) and standardized in Korean language by Lee Jong kil(1992). The questionnaire for Positive and Negative Affect by Watson, Clark & Tellgen(1988) and standardized in Korean language by Lee Ju Sung(1991) The collected data analyzed statistic program SPSS Windows 10.0 Version. The statistical analysis are descriptive statistics analysis, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis and analysis of covariance. From the analyses of the data, this study reached he following conclusions: First, subjective euphoria is partially different by the demographic characteristics. Second, subjective euphoria is partially different by sports activity participation among employees. Third, degree of sports activity participation is positively influence on subjective euphoria.
HITS알고리즘을 적용한 개념그래프 기반검색시스템의 성능개선

본 논문에서는 개념 그래프 기반 검색 시스템의 검색의 성능을 개선시키고자 Hits 알고리즘을 적용하였다. 기존 개념 그래프 기반 검색 시스템의 anchor text 분석을 통하여 개념을 추출하고 있는 시스템에서 더 나아가 하이퍼 링크의 선호도의 특성을 살려 하이퍼링크에 문서가 얼마나 연결되어 있는지, 참조하고 있는지에 따라 해당 검색된 문서들의 중요도를 찾아서 순위를 매가는 실험을 하였다. 종래에는 해당 검색어의 빈도 순으로 개념의 결과를 나타내 주었는데, 본 시스템 구현 후에 랭킹알고리즘을 적용하여 해당검색에 유용한 정보를 가지고 있는 페이지들(authorities)과 유용한 정보를 보유하고 있는 페이지의 링크를 보유하고 있는 페이지들(hubs)를 각각 순위 순으로 보여주게 되었다. 그리하여 사용자는 실제 검색 시에 개념상으로 분류된 문서 중에 중요도가 높은 문서를 사용자에게 우선으로 접하게 되었으며, hub에 의해서 중요도가 높은 문서를 한눈에 볼 수도 있을 뿐 아니라, anchor text에서 나타나지 않은 중요한 정보를 가진 문서도 검색할 수 있었다.

This pilot study focuses on emissions characterization of air pollutants produced from incineration of some municipal solid wastes (MSWs). The MSWs incinerated by an electric furnace maintained up to $600^{\circ}C$ included food, paper, and plastic wastes. The pollutants analyzed in this study included concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), bottom ash contents, and heavy metals extracted from the bottom ash of each waste. The VOCs identified were classified based on their chemical structure. The total emissions of VOCs produced from incineration of the papers were identified as the highest followed by those from the plastics and the food wastes. Aliphatic alkenes were major VOC compounds produced from incineration of plastic or food wastes, while furans were major VOCs produced from incineration of papers. The second major VOCs produced from incineration of food, plastics, and papers were aromatics. In particular, hazardous air pollutants such as benzene were produced with considerable amount of emission concentration. The bottom ash contents of papers were usually much higher than those of food or plastic wastes. The bottom ash contents produced from incineration of food and plastics were much lower than those of other MSWs. In analysis of heavy metals extracted by an ultrasonic method from the bottom ashes of the papers, high concentrations of heavy metals were identified from incineration of newspapers and box (cardboard). In addition, it was identified that the general public might be exposed to considerable amounts of lead concentrations during incineration processes and uses of paper cup and from ashes.

Objective: Therapeutic drug monitoring helps clinicians in choosing the right drug and adjust its dose in specific patients. To this end, we aimed to assess time patterns of risperidone and its metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone, in children and adolescents with oppositional defiant and/or conduct disorder. Methods: We measured plasma concentrations of risperidone and 9-hydroxyrisperidone, their sum (active moiety, AM) and ratio, as well as plasma concentrations corrected for daily dose (C/D), from 140 children/adolescents with the above-mentioned disorders. We used Student’s t test to compare females versus males, patients under versus over 16-year-old, patients with lower versus higher than the median body weight, and patients with lower versus higher than the median body mass index (BMI). Two mixed-effects logistic regression models were fitted for risperidone/9- hydroxyrisperidone ratio and AM, respectively, by considering risperidone daily dose and patients’ demographic characteristics. Results: Females had higher 9-hydroxyrisperidone and AM plasma concentrations than males (p = 0.004 and p = 0.034). Younger patients had lower risperidone plasma concentration and risperidone/9-hydroxyrisperidone ratio (p = 0.02 and p = 0.021), but higher C/D 9-hydroxyrisperidone and AM than older patients (p = 0.013 and p = 0.043). Lower-weight patients had lower plasma risperidone and risperidone/9-hydroxyrisperidone ratio (p = 0.014 and p = 0.019), but higher C/D 9-hydroxyrisperidone concentration than heavier patients (p = 0.03). All these results could be accounted for by daily dose. Patients with lower and higher BMI did not differ significantly. Regression analyses showed that only risperidone daily dose predicted risperidone/9-hydroxyrisperidone ratio, whereas risperidone daily dose, sex, and age predicted AM. Conclusion: Clinicians prescribing risperidone need to consider sex, age, and weight, but not BMI when adjusting daily doses.
