Vol.42 No.4
This study intends to investigate civic education in ancient Athens by examining Aristophanes’ comedies. The meaning of the citizen in ancient Athens is classified into two kinds: polites and demos. These concepts can be examined from three perspectives : politic and economic, status and class, and state and political perspective. In his comedy, Aristophanes attempts to suggest the Athens the meaning of citizen that is appropriate for the civic society in the satirical manner. Comedy and tragedy contests were regarded as key performances at the Dionysian Festival, the most important art festival in ancient Greece. Through this festival Playwriters provided the momentum of the awakening for citizens in Athens society. Aristophanes pointed out the conflict between classes Athenian society in Acharnians, and the necessity of defence of their fatherland in Frog. Aristophanes' ideas about civic education make appropriate suggestions for ancient Athens considering its situation. The study of the comedy contest of the Dionysus Festival which is considered as a prototype of direct democracy, has significant educational implications for developing today's Korean civic education.
What is K-MOOC? The Direction for K-MOOC in the New Normal Era
Vol.2021 No.1
K-MOOC stands for Korean Massive Open Online Course, and was created by South Korea’s Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education in 2015. MOOC enables anyone with a device with internet connection to gain access to quality education at a time and location that is of the convenience of the user. Due to COVID-19, the number of individuals who registered for classes in MOOC platforms has increased by 78% in 2020 compared to 2019. K-MOOC has a comparative advantage over other popular MOOC platforms such as Coursera when it comes to the South Korean market as many courses are taught in Korean. Nonetheless, despite this added benefit, the majority of South Korean college students do not utilize K-MOOC. This paper aims to detect the pain points that K-MOOC has when it comes to the user experience, particularly in the perspective of the MZ Generation in Seoul, and also present suggestions to ameliorate the user experience of the platform.
User Perception and Behavior on Social VR: a Case Study on Mozilla Hubs
Vol.2020 No.2
Mozilla released a Social VR platform named Mozilla Hubs in April, 2018, and there has been little usage amongst college students regarding this platform compared to popular Social Networking Services (SNS). Social VR platforms are unique as they enable users to have a spatial online presence that is different to the flat presence powered by SNS platforms such as Facebook. The usage of Social VR has potential to give birth to innovative thinking and reduce carbon footprints; these hallmarks render Social VR as a suitable means for team collaboration amongst college students. Then, how do we democratize Social VR? This study aims to suggest means to achieve this research goal by researching user perceptions and behavior on Social VR by analyzing the user perceptions and behavior of Mozilla Hubs in the context of team collaboration amongst college students.
A grip force model for the da Vinci end-effector to predict a compensation force.
Lee, Chiwon,Park, Yong Hyun,Yoon, Chiyul,Noh, Seungwoo,Lee, Choonghee,Kim, Youdan,Kim, Hee Chan,Kim, Hyeon Hoe,Kim, Sungwan P. Peregrinus Ltd.] 2015 Medical & biological engineering & computing Vol.53 No.3

A torque transfer system (TTS) that measures grip forces is developed to resolve a potential drawback of the current da Vinci robot system whose grip forces vary according to the different postures of its EndoWrist. A preliminary model of EndoWrist Inner Mechanism Model (EIMM) is also developed and validated with real grip force measurements. EndoWrist's grip forces, posture angles, and transferred torque are measured by using TTS. The mean measured grip forces of three different EndoWrist for 27 different postures were very diverse. The EndoWrist exerted different grip forces, with a minimum of 1.84-times more and a maximum of 3.37-times more in specific posture even if the surgeon exerted the same amount of force. Using the posture angles as input and the grip forces as output, the EIMM is constructed. Then, expected grip force values obtained from EIMM are compared with actual measurements of da Vinci EndoWrist to validate the proposed model. From these results, surgeons will be beneficial with the understandings of actual grip force being applied to tissue and mechanical properties of robotic system. The EIMM could provide a baseline in designing a force-feedback system for surgical robot. These are significantly important to prevent serious injury by maintaining a proper force to tissue.
