Kim, Mi-Sun,Kim, Seung-Bum,Cha, Chang-Jun,Im, Wan-Taek,Kim, Won-Yong,Kim, Myung-Kyum,Jeon, Che-Ok,Yi, Hana,Yoon, Jung-Hoon,Kim, Hyung-Rak,Seong, Chi-Nam The National Institute of Biological Resources 2021 Journal of species research Vol.10 No.1
For the collection of indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea, 77 strains within the phylum Actinobacteria were isolated from various environmental samples, fermented foods, animals and clinical specimens in 2019. Each strain showed high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (>98.8%) and formed a robust phylogenetic clade with actinobacterial species that were already defined and validated with nomenclature. There is no official description of these 77 bacterial species in Korea. The isolates were assigned to 77 species, 31 genera, 18 families, 14 orders and 2 classes of the phylum Actinobacteria. All the strains except one Coriobacteriia strain were affiliated within the class Actinomycetia. Among them, the orders Streptomycetales and Microbacteriales were predominant. A number of strains were isolated from forest soils, riverside soils, and ginseng cultivated soils. Twenty-nine strains were isolated from 'Protected Ecosystem and Scenery Areas'. Morphological properties, basic biochemical characteristics, isolation source and strain IDs are described in the species descriptions.
Rapid-Charging Solution for 18650 Cylindrical Lithium-Ion Battery Packs for Forklifts
Kim, Dong-Rak,Kang, Jin-Wook,Eom, Tae-Ho,Kim, Jun-Mo,Lee, Jeong,Won, Chung-Yuen The Korean Electrochemical Society 2018 Journal of electrochemical science and technology Vol.9 No.3
In this paper, we propose a rapid-charging system for the lithium-ion battery (LIB) packs used in electric forklifts. The battery offers three benefits: reduced charge time, prolonged battery life, and increased charging efficiency. A rapid-charging algorithm and DC/DC converter topology are proposed to achieve these benefits. This algorithm is developed using an electrochemical model, which controls the maximum charging current limit depending on the cell voltage and temperature. The experimental use of a selected 18650 LIB cell verified the prolongation of battery life on use of the algorithm. The proposed converter offers the same topological merits as a conventional resonant converter but solves the light-load regulation problem of conventional resonant converters by adopting pulse-width modulation. A 6.6-kW converter and charging algorithm were used with a forklift battery pack to verify this method's operational principles and advantages.
Antiplatelet and Antithrombotic Effects of the Extract of Lindera obtusiloba Leaves
Kim, Jun Ho,Lee, Jaemin,Kang, Soouk,Moon, Hongsik,Chung, Kyung Ho,Kim, Kyoung Rak The Korean Society of Applied Pharmacology 2016 Biomolecules & Therapeutics(구 응용약물학회지) Vol.24 No.6
Lindera obtusiloba has been used in traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of blood stasis and inflammation. The leaves of Lindera obtusiloba have been reported to exhibit various physiological activities. However, there is little information available on their antiplatelet and antithrombotic activities. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Lindera obtusiloba leaf extract (LLE) on platelet activities, coagulation and thromboembolism. In a platelet aggregation study, LLE significantly inhibited various agonist-induced platelet aggregations in vitro and ex vivo. Furthermore, LLE significantly inhibited collagen-induced thromboxane A2 (TXA2) production in rat platelets. In addition, oral administration of LLE was protective in a mouse model of pulmonary thromboembolism induced by intravenous injection of a mixture of collagen and epinephrine. Interestingly, LLE did not significantly alter prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). This study indicates that the antithrombotic effects of LLE might be due to its antiplatelet activities rather than anticoagulation. Taken together, these results suggest that LLE may be a candidate preventive and therapeutic agent in cardiovascular diseases associated with platelet hyperactivity.

We studied the thermal and the mechanical effects induced by pulsed laser absorption in human skin by numerically solving the heat-transfer and the thermoelastic wave equations. The simulation of the heat-transfer equation yielded the spatiotemporal distribution of the temperature increase in the skin, which was then used in the driving term of the thermoelastic wave equation. We compared our simulation results for the temperature increase and the skin displacements with the measured and numerical results, respectively. For the comparison, we used a recent report by Jun et al. [Sci. Rep. 5, 11016 (2015)], who measured in vivo skin temperature and performed numerical simulation of the thermoelastic wave equation using a simple assumption about the temporal evolution of the temperature distribution, and found their results to be in good agreement with our results. In addition, we obtained solutions for the stresses in the human skin and analyzed their dynamic behaviors in detail.

An Intravertebral Pseudoaneurysm Formed after Infective Spondylitis
Kim Sum,Kang Chang Kyung,Park Hangeul,Kim Young Rak,Kim Jun-Hoe,Lee Chang-Hyun,Chung Chun Kee,Kim Chi-Heon 대한말초신경학회 2023 The Nerve Vol.9 No.2
The surgical treatment of spondylitis involves potential risks, especially when dealing with infected tissues that may be fragile and susceptible to injury from surgical trauma and inflammation. In cases where spondylitis is not controlled even after the initial surgery, unexpected situations can arise if an unusual change in infected tissues around the spine is misinterpreted. The present case involves a 62-year-old who underwent laminectomy, debridement, and stabilization from T12 to L2 due to medically intractable spondylitis caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. No major bleeding or vascular injury occurred during surgery. However, despite some improvement in pain and weakness, inflammation markers remained elevated and back pain recurred. A computed tomography (CT) scan taken 15 days after surgery showed a round-enhancing lesion inside the L1 vertebra. Although the primary imaging diagnosis suggested a loculated abscess, a round-enhancing lesion raised suspicion of an unusual pseudoaneurysm. A CT angiography confirmed a pseudoaneurysm from the L1 segmental artery, successfully treated with endovascular embolization. After embolization, the patient’s back pain improved, and inflammation markers further decreased with oral antibiotics. This case highlights the possibility of a pseudoaneurysm occurring in cases of spondylitis, emphasizing the importance of considering this entity in the differential diagnosis to ensure proper treatment.
