        Voice Activity Detection Based on SNR and Non-Intrusive Speech Intelligibility Estimation

        This paper proposes a new voice activity detection (VAD) method which is based on SNR and non-intrusive speech intelligibility estimation. In the conventional SNR-based VAD methods, voice activity probability is obtained by estimating frame-wise SNR at each spectral component. However these methods lack performance in various noisy environments. We devise a hybrid VAD method that uses non-intrusive speech intelligibility estimation as well as SNR estimation, where the speech intelligibility score is estimated based on deep neural network. In order to train model parameters of deep neural network, we use MFCC vector and the intrusive speech intelligibility score, STOI (Short-Time Objective Intelligent Measure), as input and output, respectively. We developed speech presence measure to classify each noisy frame as voice or non-voice by calculating the weighted average of the estimated STOI value and the conventional SNR-based VAD value at each frame. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than the conventional VAD method in various noisy environments, especially when the SNR is very low.

        Diversity of Insect Fauna in Junam Wetland of Korea

        주남 습지대($6.02km^2$) 곤충상의 다양도, 우점도, 풍부도 등을 습지대 내 3곳의 습지에서 조사하였다. 조사방법으로는 육안조사와 쓸어잡기는 2010년, 말레이즈 트랩 조사는 2011년, 유아등 조사와 함정트랩 조사는 2012년에 실시하였다. 총 14목(目) 141과(科) 574종(種)의 9,269 개체 (딱정벌레목 36.3%, 나비목 21.3%, 잠자리목 13.9%)가 조사되었다. 종수(種數)로 비교해 보면, 나비목이 31.2%로 가장 높았고, 그 다음이 딱정벌레목(28.0%) 노린재목(12.9%) 순이었다. 우점종(총 조사개체에 대한 각 종의 개체수 비율)은 애넓적물땡땡이(Enochrus simulans, 7.9%), 꼬마줄물방개(Hydaticus grammicus, 4.3%), 일본잎벌레(Galerucella nipponensis, 4.1%), 연물명나방(Elophila interruptalis, 3.1%), 양봉꿀벌(Apis mellifera, 2.2%) 순이었다. 세 곳의 습지에서 조사된 딱정벌레목, 나비목, 잠자리목 곤충의 수는 매우 많았지만 세 습지 간에 차이는 없었다. 주남 습지대의 곤충다양도(H'), 풍부도(RI)는 각각 5.04, 59.10이었다. A sampling survey was conducted at three reservoirs of Junam wetland ($6.02km^2$) in Korea to identify the wetland insect fauna along with their dominance, diversity, richness and evenness. Methods of monitoring were visual inspection and sweeping in 2010, Malaise trapping in 2011, light trapping and pitfall trapping in 2012. In total, 9,269 individuals (36.3% coleopterans, 21.3% lepidopterans and 13.9% odonates) were collected, belonging to 574 species, 141 families and 14 orders. For the number of species, lepidopterans shared the highest (31.2%), followed by coleopterans (28.0%) and hemipterans (12.9%). Dominant species were Enochrus simulans (Coleoptera) (7.9% of total individuals) followed by Hydaticus grammicus (Coleoptera) (4.3%), Galerucella nipponensis (Coleoptera) (4.1%), Elophila interruptalis (Lepidoptera) (3.1%) and Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera) (2.2%). Total counts of coleopterans, lepidopterans and odonates in the three reservoirs were quite high, but the counts were not significantly different among the reservoirs. Insect diversity index (H') and richness index (RI) of the Junam wetland were 5.04 and 59.10, respectively.

        영국 헤리티지 영화에 재현된 군주상(君主像)의 변화: <더 퀸>(2006)과 <킹스 스피치>(2010)를 중심으로

        This paper aims to explore the ways in which the recent British heritage films that particularly model the British monarchs have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. British heritage cinema, as one of the most visible production trends in British film-making since the 1980s, has tended to reconstruct the nostalgic national past and reinforce the ‘Britishness’ by focusing upon the original buildings, costumes, and landscapes. As one of the keys to understanding the relative longevity and success of this trend, this paper examines the involvement of the North American film industry that has funded, marketed and distributed British heritage films. Another important tendency in heritage films is there are numerous bio-pics. Among many films, particularly, The Queen and King’s Speech have recently received extensive critical acclaim, and achieved considerable box-office success, both in the UK and overseas. By analyzing two films, the paper claims that there are new approaches and strategies observed in the recent British heritage bio-pics in the wake of currently increasing global interest in producing biographical films. On the one hand, two films adopt the realistic approach by using footage and the fictional narrative that are put well together. On the other hand, by revealing their private life that has never been seen publicly, British monarchs in two films are depicted as contemporary ‘ordinary’ people rather than upper-class royal families. The paper finally demonstrates the ways in which the recent heritage biopics tend to challenge the existing stereotyped representation of the monarch in order to reach the wider global audiences and to survive the fast-changing global film circumstances.

      • 목재폐기물을 이용한 HTC공정에서 발생하는 폐수재이용 특성 연구

        폐기물에 대한 사회적 인식이 기존 처리 및 처분의 개념에서 자원 재이용의 대상으로 변화하면서 다양한 폐기물에너지화 기술 개발이 가속화 되고 있다. 서울 및 경기권에서 발생하는 폐기물을 최종 처분하는 S매립지에서는 음식물쓰레기, 하수슬러지 등 다양한 폐기물에 대한 에너지화에 노력하고 있다. 하지만 중요 폐자원중 하나인 폐목재의 경우 재활용 가능 폐목재가 분리, 수거되지 않고, 혼합폐기물 형태로 단순 매립 또는 소각처리 되고있다. Hydrothermal Carbonization(이하 HTC)공정은 가수분해(加水分解)를 통해 유기성 폐자원을 에너지화 하는 기술로 다양한 재료에 적용할 수 있고 고효율의 고형연료를 생산할 수 있지만 다량의 폐수가 발생한다는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 1) S매립지에 반입되는 목재폐기물을 이용하여 HTC공정을 통해 고열량 고형연료를 생산하고, 2) 발생하는 폐수의 특성을 분석하며, 3) 발생하는 폐수를 공정에 재투입하였을 시 고형연료의 특성에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석을 수행하였다. 본 연구는 실험실규모 회분식반응기(반응기 내부 용적 2 L)를 이용하였으며, 원료는 수도권 매립지로 반입되는 폐목재를 1 cm미만으로 파쇄하여 사용하였다. 2L반응기에 목재 200g, 용매(물) 1000 g을 투입한 후 폐쇄조건 상에서 가열을 진행하였다. HTC공정은 반응온도 240℃, 반응시간 1시간으로 운전되었으며, 폐수 재이용특성 규명을 위하여 재이용 실험 시 발생하는 폐수 700g, 물 300g을 투입하여 기존과 동일하게 용매 1000g을 맞춰서 재이용실험을 5회차까지 수행하였다. 실험결과 고위발열량 6,500 kcal/kg이상의 고형연료를 생산할 수 있었으며, 1 ton의 목재폐기물 처리 시 4.31 ton의 폐수가 발생함을 확인할 수 있었으며, 발생하는 폐수는 약 COD 50,000 mg/L, TN 2,000 mg/L, TP 160 mg/L의 특성을 보였다. 재이용 실험을 진행한 결과 용매로 깨끗한 물 대신 폐수를 이용할 시 고형연료의 특성에는 영향을 주지 않았으며, 폐수의 오염 특성은 실험 회차가 거듭할수록 농축됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

        Impacts of Aid for Trade on Agricultural Development and Trade

        Aid for Trade (AfT) has emerged as a significant mechanism for development of the lesser-developed countries by helping them to participate in the global value chain. Given the importance of agriculture in many recipient countries, it is important to analyse the impacts of AfT on economic growth and trade, focusing only on the agricultural sector. This research aims to evaluate whether AfT has significant relations with agricultural development and trade. It also examined whether there is heterogeneity in a response to AfT across the recipient countries with different national characteristics. Our results show that AfT in agriculture has increased both agricultural GDP and exports of the recipient countries. This study also found the most effective form of AfT in agriculture which differs depending on the characteristics of each country.

        Femur Fractures in Parkinsonism: Analysis of a National Sample Cohort in South Korea

        Background and Purpose Falling with a femur fracture is a serious event that negatively affects the quality of life of elderly individuals as well as patients with parkinsonism. This study investigated the association between parkinsonism and femur fracture and compared the risk of femur fracture between subjects with and without parkinsonism. Methods This study examined a population-based matched cohort constructed using the National Sample Cohort data set, which comprises approximately one million subscribers to medical insurance and aid in South Korea. Subjects with parkinsonism during 2003–2013 were identified as the exposed group, and up to five individuals matched for age, sex, and index years were identified as the controls for each parkinsonism subject. The risk of femur fracture for parkinsonism was evaluated using Cox regression. Results The incidence of femur fracture according to age, sex, and body mass index varied significantly between subjects with parkinsonism and controls (p<0.001). The presence of parkinsonism was associated with a higher risk of femur fractures for males [hazard ratio (HR)= 2.85, 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.87–4.34], subjects younger than 65 years (HR=2.89, 95% CI=1.64–5.11), and underweight subjects (HR=3.90, 95% CI=1.82–8.35). The adjusted HR for femur fracture with parkinsonism was highest within 2 years of the disease diagnosis (HR= 3.10, 95% CI=2.12–4.53). Conclusions Our study found that the presence of parkinsonism is more strongly related to femur fracture in males, and increases the influence of traditional risk factors on femur fracture. It is necessary to consider how factors associated with the amount of ambulatory activity–even in an early diagnosed state–can play an important role in femur fracture in subjects with parkinsonism.
