Vol.13 No.2

The Mobile IPv6 provides the enhanced internet services to user by supporting a node's mobility. In Mobile IPv6(MIPv6), the mobile node sends the binding message which binds home address(HoA) with care-of address(CoA) to the home agent whenever it changes its point of attachment to the internet. To reduce the mobility management signal message the Paging Hierarchical Mobile IPv6(PHMIPv6) is proposed. The mobile node does not send the binding message within the domain if the mobile node's state is idle. Therefore the mobility signal message cost can be reduced. However, when the mobile node's session arrival rate is high the many mobility management signal cost are needed because the paging cost is very high. In this paper, we analysis the drawback of PHMIPv6 and propose the scheme which can reduce the mobility management signal cost. The proposed scheme works independent of the number of subnet in the domain. Therefore the proposed scheme can improve the mobile node's mobility management scheme.

Mobile Telephone Usage in Public Spaces in Seoul Metropolitan Area

Woong K. Park 한국언론학회 2008 Asian Communication Research Vol.5 No.2

One of the most (in) visible developments in mediated-communication is continual exchange of information within the realms of public/private space by the use of mobile telephone. It is expected that 1,467 million (or more) mobile telephones will be in use worldwide. For the first time this figure was expected to be higher than the corresponding figure for conventional landline (wired) phones. However, the adoption and wide-spread use of mobile telephone and its technology, became an instrument that collapsed previous forms of public and private spaces/lives. My aim in this paper is to observe and describe the forms of interactions, which used to be private, but now are conducted in public space by the usage of mobile telephone. How does the usage of mobile telephone affect the notions and experiences of private/public spaces/time/and place? Indeed, the advent of mobile telephone has contributed to the reorganization of work and leisure. It has created instant meeting places, with more accuracy and mobility. The mobile phone is becoming a truly ubiquitous device. Koppoma (2000) argues that mobile telephone has revolutionized traditional social structures. However, we should not haste our observation and judgment here-mobile phone use amplifies and reformulates already existing cultures and norms. The increased speed of connectivity and information transmission, as well as the increased facility of transportation/movement may have changed our notions of time, of the nature of the present, and of distance. Mobile telephones change our notion of time as something non-linear, rather than linear -more fluid than rigid, more flexible than fixed. We are witnessing uncoupling of the spaces of social, economic, and cultural interactions, flow and mobility from the particularities/expectations of individual places. People with mobile telephones reconstruct and reformulate the way space, time, and places are used, appropriated, and mediated. This transformation of the complex interplay of how space, time, and places are used will support new development and social dynamics.

Mobile Resource Reliability-based Job Scheduling for Mobile Grid

2011 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.5 No.1

Mobile grid is a combination of grid computing and mobile computing to build grid systems in a wireless mobile environment. The development of network technology is assisting in realizing mobile grid. Mobile grid based on established grid infrastructures needs effective resource management and reliable job scheduling because mobile grid utilizes not only static grid resources but also dynamic grid resources with mobility. However, mobile devices are considered as unavailable resources in traditional grids. Mobile resources should be integrated into existing grid sites. Therefore, this paper presents a mobile grid middleware interconnecting existing grid infrastructures with mobile resources and a mobile service agent installed on the mobile resources. This paper also proposes a mobile resource reliability-based job scheduling model in order to overcome the unreliability of wireless mobile devices and guarantee stable and reliable job processing. In the proposed job scheduling model, the mobile service agent calculates the mobile resource reliability of each resource by using diverse reliability metrics and predicts it. The mobile grid middleware allocated jobs to mobile resources by predicted mobile resource reliability. We implemented a simulation model that simplifies various functions of the proposed job scheduling model by using the DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) which is the formalism for modeling and analyzing a general system. We also conducted diverse experiments for performance evaluation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model can assist in improving the performance of mobile grid in comparison with existing job scheduling models.

Vol.25 No.3

The purpose of this study is to investigate how mobile learners behave in university e-learning, to investigate whether there is a difference in mobile learning behaviors according to the learners’ learning style, and whether learner traits and mobile learning behaviors have an effect on academic achievement. In order to analyze the mobile learning behavior, we collected the access log data of LMS for students who took e-learning courses that can take mobile courses at S university in Chungbuk in the first semester of 2015. Four mobile learning behavior questionnaires were developed by analyzing the related research. Gregorc’s learning style tools were used to analyze the learning style, and academic achievements were made using the course grades. A total of 85 subjects were available. The results of this study are as follows: First, as a result of analyzing the learner’s mobile learning behavior, the learners learned an average of 1,290 minutes during the semester, and they learned that they spent 1,169 minutes on the PC and 121 minutes on the mobile. As total leaning time increased, PC learning time increased, but mobile learning time tended to decrease. Second, the results of one-way ANOVA on the difference of mobile learning behaviors according to the learners’ learning styles showed that the abstract sequential type learners perceived mobile learning to be more helpful than the abstract random types. Third, as a result of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that the performance of the humanity and social sciences students and the smaller the proportion of mobile learning in the total learning time are the greater the academic achievement.

Vol.- No.15

Mobility is the most remarkable feature of Mobile communication which would be used by 30billion people, about 45% of whole population, in 2010. Mobility would accelerate the individualism and help to develop the human communication method by increasing the time people use the mobile media. The Mobile Media which is essential to Mobile communication is leading the digital revolution. However, the important thing in technical development is what people would experience and the cultural meaning. Mobile media does not only just another new media for human communication, but also a content composing the cultural ecosystem in modern society. In this paper, I'm going to take a hard look at the generation who has grown up with mobile media which is outstanding change in human society. They have got the mobile phone when they were in elementary school or middle school. They communicate within these mobile media and keep the relationship with developed network technology. Also, as they have manifest opinion, the big brother or any large corporate doesn't make a little dent on them (at all). But the important thing is that this generation has just started, and could give us a clue as to see the futures. Based on their mobile phone usage preferences, 3 types of mobile users were identified. Their ideal mobile usage is post-report about their preferences to mobile. 1) The First N=16) ; The Mobile culture-oriented in everyday-life They are making the best use of mobile. They even use the information in wireless internet. The most remarkable thing is not even conventional function from any other media, even their physical method has been changed, they have used actively. They are picking up as they need. For example, they may search the map of underground, use as an flashlight, take a memo when they need. On the other hand, they do not care about complicate things, they are not interested in interact between their devices. Also, they prefer all-in-one device. 2) The Second (N=6) ; The Digital culture-oriented actively. Not like the first group, they access the exiting media through mobile. They uses mobile media as a method to access another media. This group uses mobile banking, get the mobile tickets in theatre or market. Even they don’t use them everyday-life, but they make the mobile another method which enriches life. However, they think that exiting mobile phone cannot be alternative of physical media. 3) The Third (N=1) does not have any specialty. 4) Identities between these 3 groups Between the patterns mentioned above, some identity such as MP3, Mobile banking sercive, Games, P2P and Dictionaries can be found, not included GPS, Comic books, Cyworld (popular website in Korea. Structuring own homepage), etc. It means that people uses the mobile when the media is proper. Especially, they may not use under hardness to apply.Easy accessibility and convenience could be the most essential function of mobile phone to Mobile generation. Specially, convenience of mobility attracted to 20’s chasing much faster thing. Individualism of mobile also have been regarded as one of features of mobile. After all, the advantage is that it can be a individual media as well as a information channel. Information in mobile still can help private business done. Such as Mobile banking, mobile makes official service private business. As culture is the result of conventional habits and acts, emergent example of mobile generation’s usage can explain the culture in the future.

Vol.12 No.-

Mobile character download service displaying user`s own character on mobile phone screen has been settled as the maximum profit service in the area of mobile contents since 2002. As the 21st century began and consumers` interest in `something mobile` has been increased, mobile environment has been also changed greatly and these changes have contributed to the development of character industry. Utilization space and source of character have been extended and their potential have been infinite. Contents market called `flower` of mobile showed an explosive growth in external aspect since 2002 and the number of contents provided through wireless portal by mobile communication service companies was already over 10,000. Animation character has inspired dynamic factor of movement to general character components and has been developed to an influential market by attracting consumers` concerns. However, changes of character industry environment have not been acted as an opportunity factor in mobile contents industry. As consumers` needs vary depending on the characteristics of media, it throws many tasks to those who must develop various character applications and new issues. In light of these factors, more effective character model and contents which combine new environment with existing environment are needed. Therefore, this study aims to understand components of mobile contents and animation character as a solution of these problems, analyze characteristics of mobile animation character and suggest future development guideline. Mobile animation character must focus on character design work for a variety of merchandising and character life should be continued through clear character goods survey for planning and designing merchandising, and post-image maintenance and upgrade of merchandising character. In addition, since mobile animation character is a means to a direct contact with customers, its familiarity with customers is important. More varied and diversified characteristics of character should be expressed with a rapid development of mobile equipments and individual researches on applied factors (look, background, accessory, color, fashion, etc.) should be developed.

Mobility-Aware Ad Hoc Routing Protocols for Networking Mobile Robot Teams

Das, Saumitra M.,Hu, Y. Charlie,Lee, C.S. George,Lu, Yung-Hsiang The Korea Institute of Information and Commucation 2007 Journal of communications and networks Vol.9 No.3

Mobile multi-robot teams are useful in many critical applications such as search and rescue. Explicit communication among robots in such mobile multi-robot teams is useful for the coordination of such teams as well as exchanging data. Since many applications for mobile robots involve scenarios in which communication infrastructure may be damaged or unavailable, mobile robot teams frequently need to communicate with each other via ad hoc networking. In such scenarios, low-overhead and energy-efficient routing protocols for delivering messages among robots are a key requirement. Two important primitives for communication are essential for enabling a wide variety of mobile robot applications. First, unicast communication (between two robots) needs to be provided to enable coordination and data exchange. Second, in many applications, group communication is required for flexible control, organization, and management of the mobile robots. Multicast provides a bandwidth-efficient communication method between a source and a group of robots. In this paper, we first propose and evaluate two unicast routing protocols tailored for use in ad hoc networks formed by mobile multi-robot teams: Mobile robot distance vector (MRDV) and mobile robot source routing (MRSR). Both protocols exploit the unique mobility characteristics of mobile robot networks to perform efficient routing. Our simulation study show that both MRDV and MRSR incur lower overhead while operating in mobile robot networks when compared to traditional mobile ad hoc network routing protocols such as DSR and AODV. We then propose and evaluate an efficient multicast protocol mobile robot mesh multicast (MRMM) for deployment in mobile robot networks. MRMM exploits the fact that mobile robots know what velocity they are instructed to move at and for what distance in building a long lifetime sparse mesh for group communication that is more efficient. Our results show that MRMM provides an efficient group communication mechanism that can potentially be used in many mobile robot application scenarios.

Interface, Mobile-Text and Modalities of Mobile Phones

Vol.43 No.1

Mobile phone has evolved from a voice-only medium into multimedia. Unfortunately, studies on mobile phones thus far have been unable to keep pace with developments in technology and service marketing. As a result, there are some biased tendencies in present day social and academic discourses on mobile phones. First, the marketing discourses are placing a strong emphasis on the technical developments of the mobile media. Second, there is a strong tendency in academic discourse to regard mobile phones as simply 'phones', namely a mono-medium. Thus, existing marketing and academic discourses have been incapable of providing a thorough understanding on the substance of the mobile phone. Only by understanding the media characteristics of the mobile phones can we understand its substance. In this context, I will attempt to approach this medium in three venues: interface, mobile-text, and modalities.
