데페이즈망 기법을 활용한 디자인 작품 사례 연구

벨기에의 초현실주의 작가 르네 마그리트(Rene Magritte)는 일상적인 사물을 예기치 않은 공간에 두거나 크기를 왜곡시켰다. 나아가 그는 사물에 대한 관습적인 인식을 논리적으로 뒤집어 자신만의 독특한 회화 세계를 구축하였다. 본 연구는 크게 세 개의 단락으로 구분되어 연구하였다. 첫 번째, 미술사학자 알렉산드리안(Sarane Alexandrian)의 데페이즈망(depaysement) 분류 방식을 통해 마그리트 작품들 속에서 공통적으로 나타난 다양한 데페이즈망을 연구한다. 데페이즈망을 활용한 사례 연구를 통해 방법론을 고찰한다. 사례 연구를 통하여 데페이즈망 기법이 다양한 디자인 분야에서 쓰이고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 데페이즈망 기법을 적용한 작품제작을 통하여 작품 아이디어를 위한 데페이즈망의 새로운 가능성을 실험하는 것이 목표이다. 그러나 상호작용성에 치중하여 작품의 주제를 표현하기 위한 데페이즈망 기법이 효과적으로 표현되지 못했던 문제점이 제기되었다. 본 논문은 다양한 데페이즈망 기법은 광고나 건축 분야 및 미디어 작품 제작에 창의적인 표현 방법으로써 활용될 수 있음을 제시한다. 앞으로 디자인 영역에서 창작을 위한 다양한 방법론으로서 활용 될 수 있는 데페이즈망 기법에 대한 연구가 더 필요하다. Belgian surrealist artist Rene Magritte put everyday objects in unexpected spaces or distort a size of everyday object. In addition, He who logically change the conventional perception of things was building his own unique world. This study was conducted in three major sectors. First, The purpose of this study is to investigate the various depaysement techniques commonly appeared in Magritte works through a classification of the art historian Alexandrian about depaysement. Then This study consider a methodology of depaysement through a case study in depaysement technique. This technique was found that being used in a variety of design fields through a case study. Finally, By making a work which is applied depaysement, This goal of study is to experiment new possibility of depaysement used in ideas on works. But Focusing only on interactivity, The problem of depaysement technique to express the theme of the work had not been raised effectively represented. This study suggests a variety of techniques of depaysement which can be used to method as a creative expression in advertising and architecture and media productions. In future, More studies is needed on new study about depayement that can be used as a methodology for the creation in the design fields.

회화 표현에 있어 ‘편집(Edition)’에 대한 연구 - 마그리트의 데페이즈망 편집을 중심으로 -

‘편집’은 ‘이미지나 재료 등 여러 가지 요소’들을 짜 맞추고 조작하여 작품을 만들어 내는 방법’이다. 예술에서는 주로 영화나 디자인에서 사용하고 있다. 미술표현에서 ‘편집’을 보면 여러 가지 이미지나 재료 등을 모아서 하나의 작품으로 구성하여 만들어 내는 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이와 같은 편집의 방법은 오래전부터 사용하여 왔다. 현대미술에 들어서는 입체주의부터 오늘날 현대미술에 이르기까지 다양하게 사용되고 있다. 데페이즈망은 사물의 본래 용도와 기능을 일상의 문맥에서 이탈시켜 그것이 놓여 질 수 없는 낯선 장소에서 조합시켜 초현실적인 환상을 창조해 내는 기법으로 초현실주의의 중요 표현 방법 가운데 하나이다. 이와 같은 데페이즈망 표현으로 이미지를 편집하여 효과적으로 사용한 작가 가운데 한 사람이 마그리트이다. 본 연구는 마그리트 작품에서 나타나는 데페이즈망을 통한 편집의 방법이 어떻게 형성되어 있는가 하는 것을 알아보는 것이 목적이다. 마그리트의 작품 가운데 <좋은 관계>는 편집을 이루는 요소인 하늘, 마을, 눈, 열기구, 코, 입 등이 데페이즈망 되어 충격과 환상을 불러일으키고, <백지 위임장>은 여인, 큰 나무, 작은 나무, 뒷산 등이 데페이즈망 되어 여인이 숲 속에서 다른 차원의 공간으로 이동하는 것 같은 환상을 불러일으킨다. 그리고 <고정된 시간>은 벽난로, 시계, 기차, 촛대 등이 편집되어 실내의 벽난로부터 기차가 튀어 나오는 환영의 장면이 표현되었고, <빛의 제국>에서는 푸른 하늘, 밤풍경의 숲, 나무, 건물, 불빛 가로등, 불빛이 흘러나오는 창, 수면 위에 비춰지는 불빛 등이 편집되어 한 화면에 낯과 밤이 공존하는 풍경으로 표현되었다. <피레네의 성>에서는 하늘, 바위, 파도치는 바다 등이 데페이즈망 편집되어 환상의 세계가 연출되었다. ‘Edition’ is a way to create a work by assembling and manipulating various elements such as images and materials. In art, it is mainly used in movies and designs. As for expression of art, ‘edition’ refers to collecting various images and materials, etc. and making them into a single work, which has been used for a long time. In modern art, it has been widely used from Cubism to the present. Depaysement is a technique to create surreal fantasies by diverting objects from their original useand function in everyday context and putting them together in unfamiliar places, which is one of the important expression techniques of surrealism. Magritte is one of the surrealist artists who edited images with Depaysement expression and used them effectively. The purpose of this study is to find out how the Depaysement editing method is used in Magritte's works. Among Magritte's works, < The Good Relationship > evokes a shock and fantasy by editing the sky, village, eyes, hot air balloons, nose and mouth, etc. with Depaysement, and < The Carte blanche > evokes a fantasy in which a woman is transported to a space of different dimension from forest by editing a woman, large tree, small tree and mountain, etc. And < The Fixed Time > expressed a vision of a train popping out of a fireplace inside by editing a fireplace, clock, train, candlestick, etc., and in < The Empire of Light > expressed a scenery in which the day and the night coexists in one screen by editing the blue sky, forest in night, trees, buildings, streetlights, lighted window and reflection of light on the surface with Depaysement. In < The Castle of Pyrenees >, a fantasy world was created by editing the sky, rocks, and the waving sea with Depaysement.

UCC 스톱모션에서의 데페이즈망 기법 활용 현상에 관한 연구

근, 현대사에 있어서 초현실주의는 미술 분야뿐만 아니라 문학, 영화, 연극 등 다양한 분야에 영향을 주었다. 초현실주의의 대표적인 작가라 할 수 있는 르네 마그리트는 일상 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 소재를 통해 낯설게 보이는 작품을 선보였으며, 르네 마그리트가 대표적으로 사용한 기법이 데페이즈망이다. 현대에 들어와서 데페이즈망에 대한 활용은 그 범위를 넓혀 가고 있지만 영상 분야에서는 데페이즈망 기법에 대한 연구가 미비하며, 이의 활용 현상에 대해서 이론적으로 정립하고자 연구가 시작되었다. 특히 수지 개브릭(Suzi Gablik)의 8가지 유형에 의거하여 UCC 스톱모션에서의 데페이즈망 활용 사례에 대해 분석하였으며, 그 결과 스톱모션에서의 초현실주의 데페이즈망은 공간과 이미지만으로 완성되는 사례가 많지 않았으며, 시간과 움직임이 가미되었을 때 완성됨을 알 수 있었고, 특히 변형에 관련된 데페이즈망이 대다수를 이룸을 알 수 있었으며, 이 외의 다양한 유의한 데이터들은 향후 초현실주의 영상 제작에 있어 이론적인 토대를 제공할 수 있을 것이다. Surrealism in the modern history gives an effect on various fields including arts, literatures, movies, and plays. The representative artist of surrealism, Rene Magritte showed unfamiliar works through common materials around us, and his representative technique is depaysement. These days, the use of depaysement is getting wider but the filed of videos has insufficient studies on depaysement, and the studies has begun to establish the usage phenomena theoretically. In particular, this study analyzed usage cases of depaysement in UCC stop motion on the basis of Suzi Gablik’s eight types, and according to the result, surrealism depaysement in stop motion is often completed only by spaces and images, but when time and motions are added, it becomes perfect. In particular, depaysement related to changes is mostly made, and various significant data will provide a theoretical foundation to produce future surrealism videos.

지아장커 영화에 나타난 데페이즈망(depaysement) 층위와 영화적 미장아빔(cinematic mise-en-abyme)의 함의

지아장커 미학은 데페이즈망을 통한 문화횡단 풍경이다. 중국의 문화 풍경은 전통 문화와 외래문화, 대도시와 소도시의 이질적 공존으로 표상된다. 지아장커의 카메라는 데페이즈망을 통해 중국의 현실을 미학적으로 소환한다. 다른 한편으로 지아장커 텍스트는 전통문화와 작가적 스타일을 영화적 미장아빔으로 배치한다. 초현실주의적 기법으로서 데페이즈망과 중국문화의 영화적 미장아빔은 중국의 존재를 견인한다. 데페이즈망은 전통 문화와 외래문화의 이질성과 과거와 현재를 미학적 자양분으로 삼는다. 파괴되는 과거와 건설되는 현재, 중국의 전통문화와 서양의 외래문화는 이질적 공존과 거리감으로 프레임에 배치된다. 지아장커의 리얼리즘은 데페이즈망을 경유하여 당대 중국 현실을 미학적으로 재현한다. 이는 정신의 잔재를 인화하는 정신적 리얼리즘에 부합하면서 동시에 중국영화의 미학적 지평을 확장한다. 중국의 변화는 데페이즈망이라는 미학적 장치를 통해 영화의 장에 편입되어 성찰적 풍경으로 자리잡는다. 중국의 현실과 중국인을 담아내려는 감독의 열망은 적합한 미학적 장치로 가시화된다. 중국의 문화와 작가적 스타일의 영화적 미장아빔은 지아장커 작가적 인장이다. 첫 번째는 중국 문화와 다른 영화텍스트의 영화적 인용이며 두 번째는 움직이는 카메라와 선한 인간에 존엄 의지 그리고 마지막은 인물과 행위의 반복성을 통한 영화적 리듬의 완성이다. 작가적 인장은 6세대의 무중 풍경에서 독창적 작가라는 위상을 가능케 한다. Jia Zhangke’s aesthetics is a surrealistic ‘depaysement’ and the other axis is a cinematic representation of trans-culturation. The change in China is the depaysement of traditional culture and western foreign culture. ‘The depaysement’ of traditional culture and foreign culture is a cinematic way to capture the reality of China. On the other hand, the cinematic mise-en-abyme which creates cinematic meaning through the repetition of traditional culture and authorial style contained in Jia Zhangke’s texts, is the core of his aesthetics. As a surrealistic technique, the truth of China’s presence is traced through the depaysement and Chinese culture and the cinematic mise-en-abyme of authorial style. The demagnetization technique is related to the activity of Jia Zhangke’s experimental film group. It analyzes aethetically the heterogeneity between traditional culture and foreign culture. Through it, it is settled in the frame of change and immutability in China, the decolonization and semanticization of Chinese traditional culture and Western foreign culture. Jia Zhangke’s realism achieves the cinematic representation of the contemporary Chinese reality through the depaysement. This corresponds with spiritual realism that burns the remnants of the spirit claimed by Andre Bazin. The changes in China are incorporated into the field of veracity through aesthetic devices. This proves that it is an aesthetic device that coincides with the director’s desire to capture Chinese reality and Chinese people through the camera. Chinese culture and the cinematic mise-en-abyme of authorial style is Jia Zhangke’s authorial seal. It is divided into three. The first is the cinematic citation of Chinese culture and other film texts, the second is the dignity of moving cameras and good humans, and the last is the formation of cinematic rhythms through the repetition of characters, music and actions. Such an authorial seal makes Jia Zhangke grow up to be a giant as an original author himself in the weightless landscape of the 6th generation.

초현실주의 데페이즈망 기법에 의한 그림책 읽기 - Frédéric Clément의 『새벽의 새 사냥꾼』을 중심으로

본 연구는 프랑스 그림책 작가 Frédéric Clément의 새벽의 새 사냥꾼」에서 초현실주의의 대표적 표현 기법이자 Magritte의 작품세계가 기반한 표현 기법인 데페이즈망이 일러스트레이션 차원에서 어떻게 구현되고 있는지 살펴보는 것을 목표로 한다. Suzi Gablik과 Sarane Alexandrian의 데페이즈망 분류에 기반하여, 데페이즈망을 이질적 오브제들의 ‘결합’과 본질의 ‘변화’로 구분하여 이 작품을 분석하였다. 첫째, 이 작품에서 머리가 둘 달린 혼종인 독수리는 결합의 데페이즈망으로 볼 수 있고, 또 다른 혼종인 “갈대의 뿌리를 가진 분홍새”는 변화의 데페이즈망으로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 신비스러운 혼종인 “새 사냥꾼”은 이 작품에서 이질적인 두 개체를 결합시키면서 데페이즈망을 만들어내는 주체로 보았다. 셋째, 가시적인 것 속에 감추어진 것을 바라보도록 촉구하는 듯한 Magritte의 데페이즈망 기법에 기반하여, Frédéric Clément의 새벽의 새 사냥꾼」은 신비한 변신을 만들어내는 주체와 기이한 혼종으로 변신하는 대상과의 만남의 서사로 읽어낼 수 있다. 따라서 이 작품은 데페이즈망을 통해 놀라움, 더 나아가 당혹감을 만들어냄으로써 초현실주의가 추구하는 미(美)인 경이감 또는 Magritte가 지향하는 신비로움을 경험할 수 있도록 해주는 아이코노텍스트라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 일반적인 사고를 넘어서서 문학 교육이나 미술 교육에 있어 학습자의 창의적 사고나 상상력을 자극할 수 있는 교육적 도구를 만들어내는 데 기여할 수 있다. This study examined how the depaysement, a representative technique of Surrealism, especially that of Magritte's artworks, is implemented in the illustrations of the French picture book artist Frédéric Clément's L’oiseleur de l’aube. Based on the categorization of Suzi Gablik and that of Sarane Alexandrian, the research categorized the depaysement as the association of disparate objects and the transformation of their essence to analyze the work. First, in this picture book, the eagle, a two-headed hybrid, can be seen as a depaysement of association, while the other hybrid, the "pink bird with reed roots," can be seen as a depaysement of transformation. Then, the "bird hunter,” a mysterious hybrid, can be analyzed as the creator of the depaysement in this work, bringing together two disparate entities. Finally, based on Magritte's depaysement technique, which seems to urge the spectator to perceive what is hidden in the visible, Frédéric Clément's L’oiseleur de l’aube can be interpreted as a narrative of an encounter between a subject who creates a mysterious transformation and an object that gets transformed into a hybrid. To conclude, it can be considered an iconotext that creates surprise and even bewilderment with the depaysement, enabling the viewer to experience the beauty of Surrealism's sense of wonder and Magrittean mystery. This research can help to stimulate learners' creative imagination and thinking in literary and art education beyond the ordinary.

데페이즈망 회화기법을 응용한 바디아트 일러스트레이션 -르네 마그리트 작품을 중심으로-

Depaysement, which brought new stimulation and change to modern figurative art, is one of the many techniques of surrealism. The purpose of this study was to analyze and apply the characteristics of depaysement based on the visual effects of body expressions shown in the works of Rene Magritte to expand the artistic realm of body art illustration and to develop creative thinking and various techniques of expression. The characteristics of Rene Magritte`s body illustration are about separating certain parts of the body to express isolated worlds, replacing them with foreign objects to create new images, overlapping images to condense the body into one with the background, or creating a paradox by putting another object that cannot coexist with the body in the same canvas with the body. This study used the above results of analysis to discuss and apply the method of depaysement.「Nostalgia」separates a part of the chair that utilizes the body and overlaps it with the background. Then, it combines the hard part of the chair with the body to contrast two foreign objects. It was a preliminary experiment of body art. In 「Androgyny」, which used the artistic techniques of depaysement as the basis to create a valuable artwork, male and female bodies coexist and the parts of the bodies are separated and reconfigured to create a shocking image.「Survival Harmony」brought the foreign objects of nature and machine, which hardly go together, into one canvas. It engenders vagueness and confusion by juxtaposing a new space and improves its value as a work of body art illustration that allows the viewers to experience a new world.

데페이즈망을 응용한 헤어디자인 연구

In modern times, people have become consumed by and subordinate to capital and power. Under these circumstances, they have expressed a strong desire for unique and extraordinary experiences, keeping a distance from selfish and superficial lifestyles and influences of high tech-oriented capitalism. An emotional space that ensures one’s own experience is surrealist depaysement. Depaysement is a combination of unconventional concepts, defying the reason-centric system of modernism. It offers a differentiated and unexpected emotional space, using the expression technique, which makes it feel strange. The following three designs are created by overcoming stereotypes on hairstyles using depaysement, the leading expression technique of surrealism: i) meta-nostalgia, which expressed a combination of contradictory images, ii) red-memory (expression of illusion by overlapping images), iii) trans-discovery (expression of shape distortion and deformation). In addition, the new possibilities of depaysement’s were experimented with by producing creative and imaginative hairstyles. This study attempted to expand the territory of hair design by introducing diverse methods for creative hair design.

라팔 올빈스키의 데페이즈망 기법을 활용한 아트메이크업 작품제작

The purpose of this study is to present following the main issues; This study will analyze Rafal Olbinski’s pieces which utilize depaysement of Surrealism so that create new characters and story. Thus, the contents of study consist of 4 main steps. The study will define Surrealism and describe each characteristic of Surrealism technique. Secondly, this study will concentrate and carry out comparative analysis for artists who utilize depaysement. This is due to this study will narrow down depaysement by dividing into 8 main specified techniques. As third step, this study will collect pieces of Rafal Olbinski based on these 8 main specified techniques. Lastly, I will create new piece through re-creation process by combining collected image and author’s imagination. As you can see in conclusion paragraph, PieceⅠ is utilized ‘Modification’ technique, Ⅱ is utilized ‘Hybridization’ technique, Ⅲ is utilized ‘Paradox’ technique, while piece Ⅳ are based on ‘Conceptual Bipolarity’ technique. To sum up with, author hopes this study will be used by students who would like to study Make-up and character design as educational materials. At the same time, Author also hopes it will be used as materials for new idea generation in relative industry. Finally, author hopes that make-up is deserved as independent work of art and further study for it will become activity in near future.

현대 실내공간에 나타나는 데페이즈망의 기법에 관한 연구

In modern society human needs which to try new experience are growing up by breaking from the unified daily life. The artists and designers who think this kind of realization of mordern people ideal needs is possible only through overcome the reality are getting interested in surrealism. So surrealism has an effect on various categories in design, also modern indoor design is reflecting to make a new space. By using the unfamiliar theme which pursue to new one, this study is showing the unfamiliar centimental stimulus with irrational and contradictory features by using various ways. Therefore in this study, we are going to talk about the "depaysrment" which is one of the surrealism ways. So through the Rene magritte"s artworks who is representative artist of surrealism, we are going to analyze depaysement"s quality and expression quality of depaysement which is appeared in indoor space.

실감형 미디어아트에 나타난 초현실주의 표현기법에 관한 연구

본 연구는 실감형 미디어아트와 초현실주의 표현기법이 접목될 가능성을 분석하고 제안한다. 이를 위해 첫째, 초현실주의 표현기법의 유형과 특징을 이해한다. 특히 알렉산드리안과 수지개블릭의 데페이즈망 연구를 중심으로 분석한다. 둘째, 디스트릭트 작품사례를 수집 및 분석하여, 실감형 미디어아트에서 나타난 데페이즈망 표현 특성을 정리한다. 셋째, 초현실주의 표현기법이 실감형 미디어아트의 예술성 향상과 디자인 교육에 어떻게 활용될 수 있는지를 제언한다. 본 연구는 디스트릭트의 6개 작품으로 범위를 한정하여 선행연구와 사례분석의 방법으로 수행되었다. 연구 결과, 6개의 디스트릭트 실감형 미디어아트 작품에서 '미지의 차원 열어 보이기'와 '생명 불어넣기'라는 데페이즈망 특징이 주로 활용되었다. 또한, 다양한 데페이즈망 표현 요소들은 시각적 충격을 통해 작품의 핵심 의미를 강조하며, 이로 인해 데페이즈망의 특징이 실감형 미디어 아트의 효과를 높인다는 것을 확인하였다. 최종적으로 초현실주의 표현기법 중 하나인 데페이즈망 표현특성이 향후 미디어아트의 제작 및 디자인 교육의 발전에 기여할 수 있는 이론적 바탕을 제안한다. This study analyzes and proposes the possibility of combining realistic media art and surrealistic expressive techniques. To do so, we first understand the types and characteristics of surrealistic expressive techniques. In particular, we focus on Alexandrian and Suzy Gablik's work on depaysment. Second, by collecting and analyzing examples of d’strict's works, we summarize the characteristics of depaysment network representation in realistic media art. Third, we propose how surrealistic expression techniques can be used to improve the artistry of realistic media art and design education. This study is limited to six works in the d’strict, and is conducted through the methods of literature review and case analysis. The results of the study showed that the characteristics of the depaysment network such as 'opening up the unknown dimension' and 'bringing life' were mainly utilized in the six realistic media artworks of the d’strict. In addition, various depaysment elements emphasize the core meaning of the artwork through visual impact, which confirms that depaysment features enhance the effectiveness of realistic media art. Finally, this study proposes a theoretical basis for how the characteristics of depaysment, one of the surrealistic expression techniques, can contribute to the development of media art production and design education in the future.
