        〈권익중전〉의 서사 혼종과 대중화 전략

        This paper attempted to examine classical literature as popular literature of this period by examining the narrative structure of “Right and Right Jungjeon,” which was enjoyed until the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 19th century is already a period of cultural expansion with social and economic growth. Various cultural aspects coexisted through internal commercial development and the influx of new culture from outside. Among them, classical novels also made various changes in response to the changing society of the time. “The Right and Right Jungjeon” is a work that has changed in a way that variates and mixes various narrative elements. The narrative of “The War of Rights” is largely composed of a love story centered on the rights of the first half and a hero story centered on the right of the second half of Gwonseon-dong. However, the two narratives are not presented in parallel, forming variations in the existing schematic narrative development, influencing each other’s narratives and combining them. The elements of the first half of the affection story make the second half of the hero story probable, and the hero narrative of Gwonseon-dong leads to the realization of the first half of the affection story and forms a complete narrative. In the process, mythological factors such as love narratives, real songs other than hero narratives, regenerative motifs, and birth through the combination of the two worlds or being granted gods create narrative probability. At this time, the combined narrative elements also show a pattern of variation and hybridization without following the purpose or structure of the existing narrative. Variations and hybridization of narrative elements occur by offsetting the points at which narratives may collide. In the process, “Right and Right Jungjeon” leads to the combination of various narratives centered on the family community. A narrative connection of “individual-family-state” is established by connecting families and families between affection stories dealing with individual emotions of men and women and hero stories defending the national governance system. In addition, Gwonseon-dong and Oknangmok, an external antagonist, appear as internal beings for the solidarity of the family community, connecting various mixed narratives into a process of a large event. The narrative of family formation is completed as a compromise between the love story centered on individual emotions and the hero story centered on the protection of the community. Around the family community, narrative elements are transformed and mixed, and narratives with a single completeness are created, not stories arranged in parallel. In the process, the variations and hybridization of the narrative can be seen as reflecting the demand of the public at the time. Variations and hybridization of narratives are one of the strategies to survive as popular literature between the rapidly changing cultural trend of the times and the cultural trend to maintain the existing governance system firmly. Through the popularization strategy, classical novels, including “The War of Rights,” were able to continue their vitality by enjoying them to the time. It is necessary to reconsider popular literature that has changed in modernization and achieved popularization and secularization without devaluing classical novels from the 19th to 20th centuries into popular novels and secular novels. 이 논문은 19세기 말, 20세기 초까지 향유되었던 〈권익중전〉의 서사 구조를 살펴보고 이를 통해 이 시기의 대중문학으로서의 고전문학에 대해 고찰하고자 하였다. 19세기는 이미 사회, 경제적 성장에 따라 문화적으로도 팽창된 시기이다. 내부의 상업적 발전과 외부의 새로운 문화 유입을 통해 다양한 문화 양상이 공존하였다. 그 가운데 고전소설 역시 변화하던 당대 사회에 대응하며, 다양한 변화를 이루었다. 〈권익중전〉은 여러 서사 요소를 변주하고 혼종하는 방식으로 변화를 보인 작품이다. 〈권익중전〉의 서사는 크게 전반부 권익중 중심의 애정담과 후반부 권선동 중심의 영웅담으로 구성된다. 하지만 두 서사가 병렬적으로 제시되지 않고, 기존의 도식화된 서사 전개에서 변주를 이루며 서로의 서사에 영향을 끼치며 결합한다. 전반부 애정담의 요소들이 후반부 영웅담이 개연성 있게 진행되도록 만들고, 권선동의 영웅서사가 전반부 애정담의 실현으로 이어지며 하나의 완전한 서사를 이룬다. 그 과정에서 애정서사와 영웅서사 외의 진가쟁주, 재생 모티프, 두 세계의 결합을 통한 탄생이나 신물을 부여받는 등의 신화적 요소 등이 얽히면서 서사적 개연성을 만든다. 이때 결합된 서사 요소들 역시 기존의 서사가 지닌 목적이나 구조를 따르지 않고 변주되어 혼종되는 양상을 보인다. 서사 요소의 변주와 혼종은 서사끼리의 충돌될 수 있는 지점을 상쇄시키면서 이뤄진다. 그 과정에서 〈권익중전〉은 가족 공동체를 중심으로 여러 서사의 결합을 이끌어낸다. 남녀 개인의 감정을 다루는 애정담과 국가 지배 체제를 수호하는 영웅담 사이에 가문ㆍ가족을 연결시켜 ‘개인-가족-국가’의 서사 연결을 맺는다. 또한 가족 공동체의 결속을 위한 내부적 존재로 권선동과 외부적 적대자인 옥낭목을 등장시켜 혼종된 여러 서사를 하나의 큰 사건의 과정으로 연결시킨다. 개인의 감정이 중심인 애정담과 공동체의 수호가 중심인 영웅담 사이의 타협점으로서 가족 맺기 서사를 완성한다. 가족 공동체를 중심으로 서사 요소가 변주되고 혼종되며 병렬적으로 나열된 이야기가 아닌 하나의 완결성을 지닌 서사가 만들어진다. 그 과정에서 이뤄진 서사의 변주와 혼종은 결국 당대 대중들의 수요를 반영한 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 서사의 변주와 혼종은 시대의 빠르게 변화하려는 문화 흐름과 기존 지배체제를 견고하게 유지하려는 문화 흐름 사이에서 대중문학으로서 살아남기 위한 전략 중 하나이다. 대중화 전략을 통해 〈권익중전〉을 비롯한 고전소설은 당대까지도 향유되며 생명력을 이어갈 수 있었다. 19-20세기 고전소설을 통속소설, 세태소설로 평가절하하지 않고, 근대화 속 변화하며 통속화ㆍ세속화를 이룬 대중문학이라는 재고가 필요하다.

        살아있는 인간의 정신은 지각적 경험에 의미를 부여한다: 우리가 보고 듣는 것이 무엇을 뜻하는지 어떠한 의미를 만들어준다는 것이다. 아무리 추상적인(비구체적인) 소리도 작품의 구조를 나타내고 어떤 분위기를 조성할 수 있다. 즉, 음악이 서술적 줄거리를 쓰는데 소리를 이용할 수 있다는 뜻이다. 설득력있는 음악적 서술스토리는 음악작품의 효과에 근간이 된다. 이 글은 서술의 기능, 청각적 인과관계, 비순차적 서술, 반서술적 전략, 서술적 문맥, 유머/역설/도발, 서술적 휴식, 서술 구조 듣기를 포괄하여 음향적 서술의 중요한 개념들을 탐구한다. The active human mind imbues perceptual experiences with meaning: what we see and hear signifies or represents something. Even abstract sounds can articulate structural functions and evoke moods. This means that they can be used to design a narrative structure. A compelling sonic narrative is the backbone of an effective piece of music. This paper examines the important concepts of sonic narrative, including narrative function, sonic causality, nonlinear narrative, antinarrative strategies, narrative context, humor/irony/provocation, narrative repose, and hearing narrative structure.

      • 내러티브 관련 연구논문에 대한 주제어 분석:KCI 등재 논문을 중심으로

        본 연구에서는 KCI 등재 논문 중 내러티브 관련 논문 521편을 대상으로 연구 동향을 분석하였다. 사전 주제어 정련 과정을 통해서 474개의 주제어에 대한 기초 자료 분석을 하고 주제어간 비교 분석과 네트워크 분석을 실시하였다. 기초 통계 분석을 통하여 연도별, 학회지별 내러티브 관련 연구 동향과 주제어 동향을 확인하였다. 시각화한 네트워크 분석을 통하여 주제어간 연결 강도와 연결중앙성이 높은 주제어를 제시하였다. 또한 주제어간 군집성 확인을 통하여 주제어 간의 관계를 확인하였다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the research trend by research papers related to ‘narrative’. To attain this purpose, I analyze ‘Narrative’ papers and the keyword of these papers by basic analysis, comparison analysis and network analysis. 521 ‘Narrative’ papers that was registered in KCI and 474 keywords that were refined by the cleansing process were analyzed. In the basic analysis, analyzing the ‘Narrative’ papers are done per year, journal and researcher. And review of ‘Narrative’ papers in education field are done. As a result of basic analysis, it was noticed that not only ‘Narrative’ papers but also ‘Narrative’ papers in education field are steadily increasing every year. The percentage of the ‘Narrative’ papers in education field is 46.44%. The journal that has the most ‘Narrative’ papers is ‘The Korean Society for the Study of Anthropology of Education’ and The researcher who has the most ‘Narrative’ papers is ‘Kang Hyeon-suk’. In the comparison analysis, the analysis handles the 474 keywords of ‘Narrative’ papers. As a result of the comparison analysis, the top 3 keywords are ‘narrative’, ‘narrative inquiry’ and ‘teacher’. If analyzed by year, there are ‘narrative’, ‘narrative inquiry’, ‘teacher’ and ‘experience’ as major keywords. It has the semblance of the result of the whole keyword analysis. But if analyzed by journal, each major journal has various keywords, depending on the perspective of each journal. In the network analysis, 474 keywords and 2490 connection relations between keywords are studied. By using the Gephi, 474 keywords and 2490 connection relations are visualized. The keywords that have the high degree of centrality are ‘narrative’, ‘narrative inquiry’, ‘story’, ‘narrative thinking’ and ‘teacher’. Compared to the list of keywords per a frequency of appearance and the list of keywords per degree of centrality, ‘narrative curriculum’ and ‘fictional narrative’ are new keywords that have the high degree of centrality. As a result of cluster analysis, keywords have 25 clusters that are 6 isolated clusters and 19 linked clusters.

        서사와 과학 - 서사적 패러다임에 비추어 본 진스의 '과학과 음악' -

        This paper analyzes by Walter Fisher’s narrative paradigm a scientific textbook Science and Music written for musical experts and amateurs. Even a scientific writing, which is generally characterized as informative and logical, should belong to a narrative since human nature as storyteller who recognizes the world through narrative imposes narrative rationality on every discourse. Although the superficial discourse of a scientific writing is formally logic, its clandestine discourse is narrative. The story that a scientific writing appears in the context of the history of research and the disciplinary history fits the hypothetical narrative model in which the main character pursues alternatives in order to remove wants. The content of Science and Music can be understood as an attempt to satisfy the narrative probability and the narrative fidelity in Fisher’s scheme. In order to complete a probable narrative, the author who reveals his expertise of recent scientific knowledge proves through this textbook that acoustical knowledge is helpful to musicians’ musical practices. And in order to establish the fidelity, the author delivers the contents by means of laying the foundation of them on the optimistic view that the development of scientific knowledge can improve human life. Thus the paper shows that Fisher’s narrative rationality utilizes itself as a tool for the rhetorical analysis of scientific writings. 이 논문은 음악 전문가들과 음악 애호가들을 대상으로 집필된 과학 교재인 진스의 『과학과 음악』을 피셔의 서사적 패러다임에 따라 분석한다. 정보를 전달하고 논리적인 내용 전개를 특징으로 하는 과학 저술을 서사의 일부로 파악할 수 있는 것은 세상을 이야기로 인식하는 이야기꾼으로서 인간의 본성이 모든 담론에 서사적 합리성을 부여하기 때문이다. 과학 저술의 표층적 담론이 형식 논리적일지라도 그것의 심층적 담론은 서사적이라고 할 수 있다. 연구사와 분야사의 맥락에서 과학 저술이 세상에 나오는 것은 결핍을 야기하는 환경 속에서 주인공이 결핍을 제거하기 위해 대안을 찾는다는 가설적 서사 모형에 들어맞는다. 『과학과 음악』의 내용은 피셔의 구도에 따라 서사적 개연성과 서사적 충실성을 충족시키려는 노력으로 이해될 수 있다. 서사적 개연성을 충족하기 위해 최신의 과학 지식에 정통한 저자가 음향학의 지식으로 독자인 음악가들의 음악적 실행에 실제적인 도움을 줄 수 있음을 입증한다. 또한 서사적 충실성을 충족하도록 저자는 발전하는 과학 지식으로 인간의 삶은 개선될 수 있다는 낙관적 과학관에 바탕을 둠으로써 독자에게 호소력 있는 메시지를 전달한다. 이로써 이 논문은 피셔의 서사적 합리성이 과학적 저술에 대한 수사학적 분석을 위한 도구로서 사용될 수 있음을 보여준다.

        퍼스(Peirce) 기호학적 접근으로 본 서사적 커뮤니케이션 -홍상수 감독의 『생활의 발견』을 중심으로-

        This paper examines how narrative can function as medium of communication. Recent approaches have become more concerned with cognition and context than with narrative structure itself. Particularly insofar as the concept of communication involves context, as well as a shared situation and opinion between communicators, the issue of what is communicated comes to be a focus. Based on the concept of communication, the paper examines narrative as medium of communication by looking at the symbolic form of the narrative text to be transmitted. This requires interpreting activity incorporated with semiotic enterprise. At this point, the Peircean semiotic is a methodology to discover how symbolic text of narrative can be used for communication. Within the Peircean semiotic framework, not only the concept of communication but also the concept of narrative is redefined, in which the definition of narrative is extended to the representation of reality for constructing knowledge. This study focuses on narrative discourse in art by analyzing a film. The study suggests four conditions of narrative to become a communication medium: first, fictionality as narrative`s sense based on firstness; second, temporal-spatial structure as narrative`s meaning based on secondness; third, symbolic representation as narrative`s significance based on thirdness and fourth, combination of these three to produce a final opinion through dialogic process. This study will contribute to the advancement of communication studies.

        중국조선족의 영웅 서사적 특징과 역사적 기억

        중국조선족은 한민족 혈통에 중국 국적을 가진 경계인으로 그들의 삶에 대한 기억을 형상화한 문학도 그 범주가 불명확하다. 그러할수록 조선족 학자들은 조선족문학의 특징을 발굴하여 중국 내외에서의 인지도를 높이는 데 주력하였다. 본고 또한 이와 같은 의지의 표출로 중국조선족의 서사문학, 그 중에서도 그동안 개별 문학 연구 영역으로 다뤄지지 못하였던 조선족 영웅 서사의 특징에 주목하였다. 본고에서는 중국신시기(新時期)에 집중적으로 정리되고 창작되어 활자화된 영웅 서사 중 집단적 이념의 실현을 위해 뛰어난 능력을 발휘한 영웅의 행적을 서사화한 조선족소설과 연변 지역의 설화를 주요 텍스트로 선정하였다. 살펴본 데 의하면 조선족 영웅 서사는 중국 17년(1949-1966) 문학 시기를 비롯한 1950~60년대 북한 문학, 한국에서 전래된 실존 영웅 서사에서 표출된 영웅인물의 이상화 특징보다 중국 80년대 중·후반의 영웅 서사적 특징을 더 많이 보여주었다. 그 중 항일 설화, 지명설화에 녹아든 영웅 서사는 시대에 어울리지 않는 인물의 이상화와 획일화된 서사구조 및 상세한 묘사적 서술로 인해 고리타분한 느낌을 준다. 그리고 장편으로 된 한국 전래 설화와 역사 소설로 구성된 영웅 서사는 영웅의 범인화·전기화와 함께 조선족의 역사, 풍속, 인정세태 등에 대한 사실과 허구를 결합시켜 서사를 풍부하게 만들었으며 문체에서도 다양성을 보였다. 한편 조선족 영웅 서사를 통해 형성된 한민족의 집단적 기억과 조선족의 역사 적 기억은 조선족공동체 내에서 잘 전승되지 못하고 있는 상황이다. 역사의식을 비롯한 민족문화의 전승은 학교와 가정교육, 사회교육, 이론과 실천의 결합이 이루어져야 한다. 하지만 중국 경제가 급속히 발전하고 한국 문화가 대량 유입되면서 조선족 청소년들은 대체로 `중국화`, `한국화` 또는 `서구화`로 나아가 정체성 혼란을 겪고 있다. 이는 조선족 문화를 전승, 발전시키기 위한 조선족공동체의 과감한 추진력과 각 지역 간의 소통이 결핍했기 때문이기도 하지만 역사적 기억을 불러일으키는 서사가 부단히 재구성되고 담론화되지 못한 요인이 더 크다고 생각 한다. 조선족 특유의 서사의 재구성을 통한 그들만의 역사적 기억의 연속이 전제되어야 한민족 문학도 참된 의미를 지니게 된다. Korean-Chinese scholar are focusing their efforts on exploring the character of Korean-Chinese literature for raise awareness both within and outside China. Soon as an expression of such determination this manuscript pay attention Korean-Chinese narrative literature, especially the character of Korean-Chinese hero-narrative that had not treated in as Individual literary areas. Make a choice Among the hero-narrative that creative and organized for text type in China modern, especially Yanbian Area folktale and novels were selected by the main research text. In this text showed hero`s rare movements for the realization of a group ideological. More than in the hero-narrative introduced in China`s 17 (1966-1949) years literature, North Korean literary in 1950s and 60s, and South Korean tradition tale, the hero`s idealization character intensively showed in mid or late` 80s. The hero-narrative which are dissolved in the anti-Japanese tale, a tale of them. The hero-narrative which are dissolved in the anti-Japanese tale and name tale, any tale of them standardized and idealization just the way they don`t hang out during the narrative structure and by detailed descriptive narrative. Meanwhile, the novel consists of a Korean folk tales and history showed character of commonness and electrification, with ethnic, folk custom, and way of the world, and enrich the narrative through combine the facts and fiction. Meanwhile, the memory of the Korean and Korean-Chinese historical memory were composed by Korean-Chinese hero-narrative. But they can`t played well within the Korean-Chinese community. The historical awareness, including the transmission of national cultures, need schools and social education, upbringing, the combination of theory and practice. However, developing Chinese economy and growing influx of Korean culture Korean-Chinese teenagers usually grew to `becoming Korean`, `becoming Chinese`, or `becoming more westernized`. It`s because lack of decisive driving force and interaction between different area of Korean-Chinese. But bigger is narrative is not constantly reconstructed and discoursed. Korean literature to be true only based on series of historical memory made by Korean-Chinese` own reconstruct ion of the narrative.

        내러티브와 서사학, 그리고 인성교육

        This paper deals with the character education through narratives from the perspective of narratology. Although cognitive science is associated with mechanical technologies that seem unliterary, the central issues for cognitive science are in fact the issues of the narrative mind because most of our experience, our knowledge, and our thinking is organized as stories. In this sense, narratives play an essential role in one’s personality formation and mental development. There are three methods in the narrative moral education: traditional narrative moral education, formal narrative moral education, and ordinary narrative moral education. On the other hand, there are also three other narrative moral education methods: contents centered moral education, process centered moral education, and reflection centered moral education method. From the perspective of narratology, there is a concrete narrative level of text and three abstract narrative levels of story, narration, and textuality. While the traditional narrative moral education and the content-centered moral education are related to the narrative level of story, the formal narrative moral education and the process-centered moral education are associated with the narration level of the narrative. The ordinary narrative moral education and the reflection centered moral education can correlate with the level of textuality. This paper, therefore, shows how narratives play a role in character education, and how the main components of the narrative levels can used effectively for that.

        교과교육에서 내러티브의 의미와 가치

        The discussion of the meaning and the value of narrative can be approached in various ways. At a educational perspectives, we may find various possibilities of narrative in many academic genres. Therefore we would better pay attention to meaning and new value of narrative and search the nature of narrative in educational settings. The purpose of this study is to search the meaning and the value of narrative in subject matter education. Nowadays there are many concerns about the meaning and nature of narrative in discourse of human science. The narrative ways of knowing in discourse of various discipline are very effective and meaningful to search human mind and society. We may approach the various meanings of narrative: story and storytelling, mode of thought for making meaning, cognitive scheme, and forms of world making. The value of narrative in education focuses on the value of integrative narrative. In line with this perspectives, we propose various values of narrative: to remember, to parallel life, to make meaning, to learn in a meaningful context, to accommodate individual difference, to join a community etc. Also narrative contributes to make a educational imagination through the sense of self identity and mode of representation. In the line of narrative thinking, we should explore the key roles of narrative in developing a curriculum, teacher participatory narrative inquiry, and curriculum reconstruction.

        무가 <당금애기>와 민요 ‘중노래ㆍ맏딸애기’류의 교섭양상과 변이

        This study is to examine the interaction between the shamanistic song Danggeumaeggi and folk songs like ‘JoongnoraeㆍMaddalaeggi’ The inter-influence between the two genres is based on the narrative or made in the form of inserted lyrics. One of interaction based on the narrative is Joongnorae(Songs about Monk), a folk song from the narrative of the Shamanistic Song Danggeumaeggi. Absorption of the shamanistic songs into the folk songs occurs in the fun-centered contents and somewhat ludicrous scenes, rather than in the parts related to ceremonies or the sacred and complicated narrative explaining the history of a god. The balladation develops a lot in the shamanistic songs of south areas of the Han River, where is in the progress of secularization, especially in those of Jeolla-do areas. And there happen some re-alterations in folk songs based on the altered narrative, which are the mixture phenomena with songs for a married life under the parents-in-law and with legendary narrations. In addition, these narrative folk songs give birth to a variation focusing more on the love affair of the main men and women characters and having the more weakened narrative of the shamanistic songs while spreading over the other different area. Furthermore, this variation, when facing the folk songs based on no shamanistic songs or weakened ones, turns into an exception(rule-breaking form), which settles down in the realistic world of the folk songs with the mythical world dying out. Throughout the these changes, some parts of them are merged into other narrative folk songs and also used as motifs to make a song having different styles. To examine the ways of the interaction in the form of inserted lyrics, the study goes through Joongtaryeung(A Ballad with Certain Kind of Tune about Monk) andMaddalaeggi(The Eldest Daughter). These songs are not in the shamanistic songs of north areas of the Han River, which means that the interaction is made in the course of seculization of the shamanistic songs. These songs has no function both indicative and narrative of an event, preferably used to stand out the character's characteristics. It is showed that these songs are lengthened or mixed with other songs within the folk songs. Joontaryeung, one of these songs, pursues to be lengthened and gets transformed into a narrative folk song. Meanwhile, even though the songs of Maddalaeggi can speak for the desire for beauty of the women enjoying the folk songs, run among many women’s songs(sung by women), and get inserted as a part of other narrative folk songs, it is noticed that they have little influence on the development of the narrative, just used as a device to make prominent the beauty of a character in the narrative. Absorption of the shamanistic songs into the folk songs occurs in the fun-centered contents and somewhat ludicrous scenes, rather than in the parts related to ceremonies or the sacred and complicated narrative explaining the history of a god. The balladation develops a lot in the shamanistic songs of south areas of the Han River, where is in the progress of secularization, especially in those of Jeolla-do areas. And there happen some re-alterations in folk songs based on the altered narrative, which are the mixture phenomena with songs for a married life under the parents-in-law and with legendary narrations. In addition, these narrative folk songs give birth to a variation focusing more on the love affair of the main men and women characters and having the more weakened narrative of the shamanistic songs while spreading over the other different area. Furthermore, this variation, when facing the folk songs based on no shamanistic songs or weakened ones, turns into an exception(rule-breaking form), which settles down in the realistic world of the folk songs with the mythical world dying out. Throughout the these changes, some parts of them are merged into other narrative folk songs and also used as motifs to make a song having different styles. To examine the ways of the interaction in the form of inserted lyrics, the study goes through Joongtaryeung(A Ballad with Certain Kind of Tune about Monk) andMaddalaeggi(The Eldest Daughter). These songs are not in the shamanistic songs of north areas of the Han River, which means that the interaction is made in the course of seculization of the shamanistic songs. These songs has no function both indicative and narrative of an event, preferably used to stand out the character's characteristics. It is showed that these songs are lengthened or mixed with other songs within the folk songs. Joontaryeung, one of these songs, pursues to be lengthened and gets transformed into a narrative folk song. Meanwhile, even though the songs of Maddalaeggi can speak for the desire for beauty of the women enjoying the folk songs, run among many women’s songs(sung by women), and get inserted as a part of other narrative folk songs, it is noticed that they have little influence on the development of the narrative, just used as a device to make prominent the beauty of a character in the narrative.

      • <운영전>의 서사 공간 이해 교육을 위한 고찰

        This research focuses on the role of ‘space’ in the narrative and seeks to apply the way of understanding the novels with space category to a pre-modern novel < Woonyeong-Jeon(운영전) > where space is a key element of the text. Susunggung Palace in the novel is not only a key space for the major scenes of the text but also works as a key principle in the composition of narrative space, being closely related to formation of major conflicts in narrative space and psychologies of the characters. Furthermore, when the readers appreciate the novel focusing on its space, they can overcome the limitations in the way the novel has been understood in the past and discover the tragic elements of the < Woonyeong-Jeon > from new perspective. The main theme of the novel mostly discussed in the past have been characterization of Anpyungdaegun(a son of a King Sejong) and the tragic element of the novel. Past studies on the novel characterized him as a person who seeks medieval, anti-feudalistic and metaphysical ideology and did not investigate his anti-medieval behaviors. This study, however, overcomes the limitations of the past studies through Susunggung Palace. The study observes him as a person who seeks cultural desire and value of literary art and explains his open-minded and anti-feudal behaviors. Furthermore, the space approach to < Woonyeong-Jeon > discovers unique features of double-tragic elements: the failure of love between and Woonyeong and Kimjinsa(a local government official) and their death and another defeat even outside the Palace space they wanted to get out of. Recognizing the importance of space in < Woonyeong-Jeon >, this thesis designs education curriculum and methodology that contribute to two goals: understanding space in the novel by readers and students is extended to the narrative world, and furthermore, it occurs within their internal relations. In order to achieve these goals, first, the research derives the key role of space discussed in theory of narrative space and shows that space works as the key element of the relation structure affecting overall meanings of the narrative. Second, the research investigates the integrated narrative world through examining the role of the Susunggung Palace in the narrative in three aspects: forming key conflict structure, revealing personalities of characters and characteristics, and arousing tragic atmosphere. Furthermore, the research applies the standards of the readers to the work sympathetically and critically and suggests concrete education curriculum for students to understand and internalize the space and the narrative world in < Woonyeong-Jeon >. Based on the previous motivation and purpose of the study, Chapter II defines the concept of space in the narrative and categorized the functions of narrative space into formation of conflict structure and implication, emphasis on personalities of characters and characteristics, text atmosphere and esthetic arousing. This chapter is mostly based on Juri Lotman, Mieke Bal, J.P. Goldenstein, J.F. De Jong. Chapter III separated the space in < Woonyeong-Jeon > into historical real space which provided the background of the text and the space described in the text. First, the Chapter showed that the key space in the novel was based on the historical space and was, however, modified as the fictional space created by the author. Second, the closed nature of the Palace, which is the key space in the novel, worked as the key structural factor for generating diverse aspects of conflicts between Woonyeong and Kimjinsa(a public official) in romance, Anpyungdaegun and court ladies, ladies in west courts and south courts inside and outside the Palace. Third, the analysis on how the characters react to space and perceive the space they belong to shows the following results: (1) Anpyungdaegun is a ambivalent person who oppresses personal freedom by considering the Palace as a world for his literary art and seeking his esthetic achievements. (2) Woonyeong is a person who seeks instinctive value through romance achievement, challenges the closeness of the Palace and is suffering from obligation to Anpyungdaegun, (3) Kimjinsa is a person who recognizes the closeness of the Palace and follows fatalism. (4) Jaran is a person who recognizes the closeness and stability of the Palace with flexibility at the same time. (5) Yuyeong is a person who feels the sadness in the ruined Palace and shares the feelings of Woonyeong and Kimjinsa with emotional relationship with them and playing a role as a listener and transmitter of internal stories. Chapter IV investigated the effects and problems associated with the reader’s understanding the space in the novel based on the contents of understanding education on the narrative space in < Woonyeong-Jeon > discussed in the previous Chapter. The final goal of education was set up in order to correct the problems. and the following stages of education curriculum were suggested: (1) derivation and classification of narrative space of the text and finding the ways to construct the space structure, (2) development of the narrative space and understanding the role of the narrative space, (3) composing the meanings of the narrative world through the narrative space, (4) internalization of the narrative world sympathetically and critically. This study provided a comprehensive understanding of < Woonyeong-Jeon > by investigating the role of space from text-internal aspect closely, unlike the past studies focusing on socio-historic aspects. Furthermore, this study contributes substantially to practical understanding education in the sense that the narrative space in the novel is closely related to reader’s real life and oneself beyond simple analytical reading. The thesis may have some limitations depending on research viewpoints. In the process of deriving the discordance between historical space and narrative space, this thesis did not found enough historical evidences about Susunggung. Therefore, examining the historical truths about < Woonyeong-Jeon >’s narrative space in detail is needed for the next step of the thesis.
