        Iron diffusion-doped magnesium-aluminum layered double oxides as a multifunctional adsorbent for removal of F-, Sb(III) and methyl orange contaminants from water

        Due to the complexity of the contaminations in wastewater, a universal adsorbent that takes many sorts of pollutant is desired. A multi-functioning magnetic Fe3O4-cored magnesium-aluminum layered double oxide (Fe3O4@LDO) composite was prepared and employed as an adsorbent for removing F-, Sb(III) and MO from water, respectively, which are three typical contaminants with different molecule sizes as water contamination. The effect of pH contact time and initial concentrations of pollutants on the removal rates of each contaminant were investigated. Fe3O4@LDO composite showed excellent adsorption performance for all of the three molecules F-, Sb(III) and MO, and their maximum adsorption capacities are as high as 258, 391, and 506mg/g, respectively. The adsorption process of F-, Sb(III) and MO on Fe3O4@LDO fitted well to Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption mechanisms of F-, Sb(III) and MO on Fe3O4@LDO were investigated. We discovered that iron ions diffused from Fe3O4 nanospheres contributed to the good performance of the absorbent.

        Meta-analysis of the effect of melatonin application on abiotic stress tolerance in plants

        Melatonin is a hormone-like substance that promotes plant growth and development and alleviates stress levels. Although the physiological roles of melatonin and the underlying mechanisms have been qualitatively reviewed in plants, we do not fully understand when and how to apply melatonin to maximize its benefits. Here, we performed a meta-analysis to quantitatively evaluate the effect of melatonin on abiotic stress tolerance in plants and to determine the number of parameters modulated by melatonin. Melatonin significantly alleviated the growth inhibition induced by drought stress compared with other abiotic stresses, including salt, cold, heat, nitrogen deficit, and heavy metal toxicity, mainly owing to higher photosynthesis efficiency and antioxidant enzyme activity. Furthermore, melatonin modulated plant growth in a concentration-dependent manner and was more effective when applied to plants under moderate drought stress at an early stage via root irrigation. In addition, the impact of melatonin was greater in monocots than in dicots. Moreover, endogenous melatonin levels could be significantly increased via transgenic strategies. Among melatonin biosynthesis-related gene members, ASMT has tended to have the most influence on melatonin content in plants. In light of the rapidly developing genome editing technology, quantitatively increasing endogenous melatonin level in plant would be quite useful for moderating climatic conditions and combating desertification. Taken together, our results provide guidelines for melatonin application in crops plants for improving productivity under ongoing climate change.

        Improved Function Augmented Sliding Mode Control of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Preassigned Settling Time

        This paper investigates the robust tracking control of second-order uncertain nonlinear systems by adopting the function augmented sliding mode control approach. An improved version of this approach is proposed such that the exact information of the initial tracking error is not required when generating the desired trajectory of the tracking error. This evidently enlarges the application scope of the function augmented sliding mode control approach. Performance functions are introduced to form the performance envelopes for the sliding mode variables. A robust sliding mode controller is constructed such that the sliding mode variables are confined within their performance envelopes. This further guarantees that the tracking error converges to the given neighbourhood of zero within the preassigned settling time provided that proper control parameters are selected. An application example on the rendezvous control of spacecraft is also employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.

      • Moving Target Detection and Tracking in Complex Background

        The influence of environment changing, e.g. background beam change, trees waggle, and rain or snow day brings More difficult for moving target detecting. A background dynamic generation algorithm is presented in the paper, and the background dynamic generation algorithm is used to dynamically construct background image, the impact of the environment change is reduced in a certain extent for the moving target detection. Secondly, the background difference method is used to detect the moving target, when the moving target exists, the direction and the coordinate of the moving target is determined according to the result of continuous 2 frame images subtract the background. Finally, an algorithm for calculating the rotation angle of the pan/tilt/zoom is presented, the horizontal rotation angle and the vertical rotation angle of the pan/tilt/zoom is calculated according to the pan/tilt/zoom rotation angle algorithm, and the moving target detection and automatic tracking function is realized.

        Paip1 Indicated Poor Prognosis in Cervical Cancer and Promoted Cervical Carcinogenesis

        Purpose This study was aimed to investigate the role of poly(A)-binding protein-interacting protein 1 (Paip1) in cervical carcinogenesis. Materials and Methods The expression of Paip1 in normal cervical epithelial tissues and cervical cancer (CC) tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. In vivo and in vitro assays were performed to validate effect of Paip1 on CC progression. Results Paip1 was found to be up-regulated in CC, which was linked with shorter survival. Knockdown of Paip1 inhibited cell growth, induced apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in CC cells, whereas its overexpression reversed these effects. The in vivo tumor model confirmed the pro-tumor role of Paip1 in CC growth. Conclusion Altogether, the investigation demonstrated the clinical significance of Paip1 expression, which prompted that the up-regulated of Paip1 can presumably be a potential prognostic and progression marker for CC.

        Efficient degradation of imidacloprid in wastewater by a novel p-n heterogeneous Ag2O/BiVO4/diatomite composite under hydrogen peroxide

        In this study, Ag2O/BiVO4/diatomite composite with p-n heterojunction structure was synthesized bysimple hydrothermal method with diatomite as carrier. It was found that under the action of hydrogenperoxide (H2O2), the imidacloprid (IMD) could be effectively degraded by the composite. Systemic evaluationswas conducted on effects of pH value, catalyst dosage, H2O2 concentration, initial IMD concentration,and anion on how effeciently this new photocatalytic composite can degrade IMD. The results showthat the p-n heterojunction formed between the two contact surfaces of Ag2O nanoparticle and BiVO4promotes the charge transfer between the interfaces, inhibits recombination of electrons and holes,and thus significantly improves the catalytic performance. The stability and reusability of Ag2O/BiVO4/diatomite composites were tested with ICP experiment and cyclic experiment. Active substancecapture experiment and ESR reveal the photocatalytic reaction mechanism and confirm that superoxideradical (O2), hydroxyl radical (OH), and h+ can promote the degradation of IMD. The degradation productsand the intermediates of IMD were identified through LC-MS, on a basis of which the possible transformationpathway was proposed. In situ synthesis of p-type Ag2O and n-type BiVO4 heterojunctioncomposites has opened a new direction for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants.

        Determining Optimum Number of Gyrations for Porous Asphalt Mixtures Using Superpave Gyratory Compactor

        The compaction characteristics of porous asphalt (PA) mixtures are significantly different from those of traditional dense-graded asphalt mixtures. Compaction efforts are critical for PA mixtures to exhibit good performance in terms of strength, functionality, and durability. The objective of this study was to determine the optimum number of gyrations for typical PA mixtures compacted using a Superpave gyratory compactor. The compaction characteristics and the influence of seven gyration levels on the indicators of air voids (AV) content, Marshall Stability (MS), multi-directional permeability, stone-on-stone contact, and durability of PA mixture were investigated through laboratory experiments. A multi-directional permeameter was designed to evaluate the multi-directional permeability of PA mixtures, including vertical, horizontal, and combined horizontal-vertical permeability. The AV content, multi-directional permeability decreases with the increasing gyrations. Based on the requirements of each indicator, the minimum and maximum gyrations for each indicator were determined. Balancing the performance of strength, functionality, and durability, the optimum number of gyrations for the PA mixtures was determined to be between 45 and 75 gyrations, which allows for different gyrations depending on the application of the PA mixture. Finally, the requirements of MS, horizontal permeability, and combined horizontal-vertical permeability are recommended for improving the performance of PA mixture.

        Biomimetic slippery liquid-infused porous surface on the basis of hierarchical ZIF-67@Cu dendrite: Preparation and corrosion inhibition

        In the harsh environment, the corrosion of Cu leads to the failure of pipelines, condenser, printed circuitboard and so forth. Thus, protecting Cu from corrosion is critically important from both science and engineeringbackgrounds. In this report, the hierarchical structure compositing dendritic Cu and ZIF-67 is preparedonto Cu by a two-step electrodeposition protocol. After thiol modification and oil infusion, bioinspiredsuperhydrophobic surface (SHS) and slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) is respectivelyachieved, and sophisticated techniques are used for characterizing chemical composition, morphology,topology and wettability. Scanning Kelvin probe is employed to know the surface potentialdistribution before and after the biomimetic transformation. Using different electrochemical approaches,the corrosion inhibition effect is elucidated. In 3.5 wt% NaCl corrosive medium, |Z|0.01Hz of SLIPS is as highas 1.35 108 Xcm2 at the initial immersion stage. The value is remarkably enhanced compared with SHS(6.76 104 Xcm2) and bare Cu (8.74 103 Xcm2). After soaking for 168 h, |Z|0.01Hz value of SHS andSLIPS is 3.84 104 Xcm2 and 4.93 106 Xcm2, illustrating that SLIPS has high resistance to protectCu from corrosion.

        Analysis of Clostridium Cluster I Community Diversity in Pit Mud Used in Manufacture of Chinese Luzhou-flavor Liquor

        Chinese Luzhou-flavor liquor is prepared using distillation of mixed, fermented grains, such as sorghum and rice. Fermentation occurs in cellars lined with pit mud containing microbes. The identity and community diversity of bacteria in pit mud of fermentation cellars contributes to the aromatic compounds of the liquor. In order to determine the contribution of genus Clostridium to this fermentation, the community diversity of Clostridium cluster I in pit mud of different cellar ages (1, 50, 100, and 400 years) was investigated based on denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis followed by 16S rRNA sequencing. Differences in the community structure within pit mud depended on wall and bottom layer cellar locations. A better understanding of the role of Clostridium in Luzhou-flavor liquor manufacture will be useful.
