        Impacts of the side ratio of isolated buildings on airflows and pollutant dispersion under different temperature stratifications: Numerical investigations

        Based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) method, the standard k-ε turbulence model was used to simulate the effects of the side ratio (SR: building depth/building width, SR = 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0, respectively) of isolated buildings on the flow field and pollutant of ethylene dispersion under unstable temperature stratification and neutral conditions. The results showed that under unstable temperature stratification, the updraft on the leeward side of the building caused the high temperature gas to flow upward and the temperature gradient to drop. Compared with the neutral condition, the length of the recirculation zone was shorter, and with the decrease in SR, the vortex in the recirculation zone became larger and more stable. Because the pollution source was located on the leeward side of the building, the pollutant gas was concentrated in the area between the pollution source and the leeward side of the building. The near-ground concentration of pollutants under unstable temperature stratification was lower than that under neutral conditions, and with the decrease in SR, the near-ground axis concentration decreased while the width of the pollutant plumes increased.

        중국 유학생의 스마트폰 중독과 대학생활적응의 관계

        이 연구는 중국 유학생의 스마트폰 사용량과 중독 수준을 측정하고, 스마트폰 중독이 대학생활적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중국인 유학생의 스마트폰 중독이 남․녀별, 나이별, 한국 내 체류기간별에 따라 다른 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 스마트폰 중독이 대학생활적응에 부적인 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 스마트폰 중독 수준이 높아질수록 대학생활적응이 낮아진다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 스마트폰 중독은 중국인 유학생의 대학생활적응을 위협한다는 것을 시사하고 있다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the usage of smart phone by Chinese students in Korea, examine their smart phone addiction, and see how overuse of smart phone was connected to their college life adjustment . For the empirical verification of this study, data were collected by instruments of smart phone addiction, and college life adjustment by the survey of 373 students (male: 125, female: 248) in C college and D college located in Gwangju City and Jeollanam-do Province. Collected data were analyzed by the SPSS 20.0 program for Windows, and statistical analysis was conducted such as frequency analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson s correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The research findings were as follows; Firstly, female students showed a higher level of smart phone addiction than male students. According to age, the highest smart phone addiction rate appeared in the students that are older than 26. The age range of 18-20 had the lowest rate in smart phone addiction. If we classified the students by the time of living in Korea, we could find that those who are around 2-3 years showed most addiction of smart phone. And the group who are living 1-2 years showed lowest smart phone addition. Meanwhile, the smart phone addiction rate was not related to the degree level of students they are studying. Secondly, the correlation between smart phone addiction and college life adjustment showed negative relationship. Thirdly, smart phone addiction affect college life adjustment negatively. In conclusion, the smart phone addiction level show differences by gender, age, and living time in Korea. Furthermore, we can also conclude that the higher level smart phone addiction rate, the lower adaptability of university life. These results shows us that smart phone addiction threaten college life of Chinese students in Korea.

        An improved kernel principal component analysis based on sparse representation for face recognition

        Representation based classification, kernel method and sparse representation have received much attention in the field of face recognition. In this paper, we proposed an improved kernel principal component analysis method based on sparse representation to improve the accuracy and robustness for face recognition. First, the distances between the test sample and all training samples in kernel space are estimated based on collaborative representation. Second, S training samples with the smallest distances are selected, and Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) is used to extract the features that are exploited for classification. The proposed method implements the sparse representation under ℓ<sub>2</sub> regularization and performs feature extraction twice to improve the robustness. Also, we investigate the relationship between the accuracy and the sparseness coefficient, the relationship between the accuracy and the dimensionality respectively. The comparative experiments are conducted on the ORL, the GT and the UMIST face database. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more effective and robust than several state-of-the-art methods including Sparse Representation based Classification (SRC), Collaborative Representation based Classification (CRC), KCRC and Two Phase Test samples Sparse Representation (TPTSR).

        Correlation Between Bone Marrow Blasts Counts With Flow Cytometry and Morphological Analysis in Myelodysplastic Syndromes

        Dear Editor, Determination of the percentage of blasts in the bone marrow (BM) is one of the critical factors in diagnosing MDS. Flow cytometry (FCM) of BM cells has been introduced as an important co-criterion for diagnosing MDS [1-3]. However, FCM has not been well accepted because of the lack of consensus of the criteria to define a phenotypic myeloblast and the appropriate denominator for calculation. Moreover, BM samples contain variable amounts of peripheral blood mixed with immature cells, thereby complicating interpretation. The present study was designed to choose reagent combinations to identify blasts by FCM in MDS patients, to determine which cell mass as the denominator in the process of counting the percentages of blasts, and to reveal whether the aspirates with high proportions of mature neutrophils should be normalized based on the proportion of dim CD16 maturing myeloid cells.

        Investigation on Galloping of D-Shape Iced 6-Bundle Conductors in Transmission Tower Line

        The first comprehensive test base of electrical test transmission line in China has been established. Galloping response characteristics of real test tower-line system covered with D-shape ice model under natural wind load has been recorded. According to the structural details of the test tower-line, the detailed numerical model of the three spans tower-line system has been set up by nonlinear finite element method (FEM). Then, the digital stochastic wind field is presented. Galloping behaviors of the D-shape iced 6-bundle conductors in the test line under stochastic wind field is numerically simulated. Finally, the dynamic response of displacements, galloping traces, galloping modes, and frequencies are obtained. The numerical simulation results are consistent with the measured galloping characteristics results of the test transmission tower-line, which verifies the efficiency of the numerical model. It is demonstrated that the established FEM numerical method can be applied to investigate galloping behaviors of tower-line. Meanwhile, based on the numerical simulation results, the variation of stress and displacement of tower during galloping is also discussed.

        Disturbance Observer-based Neural Network Integral Sliding Mode Control for a Constrained Flexible Joint Robotic Manipulator

        In this paper, the tracking control problem of flexible joint robotic manipulator (FJRM) system subjected to system uncertainties and time-varying external disturbances (TVED) is addressed. A new disturbance observerbased neural network integral sliding mode controller with output constraints (DNISMCOC) that comprises the merits of neural networks, disturbance observer and integral sliding mode is proposed. Considering that the radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) has a fast learning convergence speed and great approximation ability, two matrices of RBFNN are utilized to estimate the parameter matrices of the dynamic model of FJRM. In view of the estimation errors of RBFNNs and TVED in the system, a disturbance observer is introduced to estimate the lump uncertainties which consist of them. Integral sliding mode is introduced for eliminating steady errors further. For ensuring security in some high-accuracy using occasions, a barrier lyapunov functions (BLF) is adopted to achieve output constraints of FJRM. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, numerical simulations on 2-link FJRM are conducted. According to the comparisons among DNISMCOC and other state-ofthe-art controllers, the superiorities of DNISMCOC in several aspects are proved.

        Micro-structural Evolution of Granite Residual Soil under External Loading Based on X-ray Micro-computed Tomography

        As a completed decomposed product of granite rock, the granite residual soil widely distributes in South China with a special soil structure that can be easily damaged under external disturbance. Therefore, studying the evolution of soil cracks during the loading process is important for engineering practice that needs to evaluate the soil shear strength, such as slope stability analysis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the micro-structure for the intact granite residual soil under external loading base on X-ray computed tomography (CT) through global and local scanning (with resolutions of 180 μm and 26.7 μm, respectively). The micro-structural evolution of the cross-sections of soil column extracted from a granite residual soil layer under axial loading was investigated by CT scanning with a 0.5 mm slice thickness. The number of cracks (including macro-cracks and meso-cracks), area ratios and porosity corresponding to varying loading stages (initial, peak-stress and failure) were analyzed based on the cross-sectional CT images. Test results shows that the structure strength of the soil was mainly subject to macro-cracks. In addition, the increase of the porosity is mainly attributed to the generation and expansion of the cracks along sandy particle under external loading. This study can provide theoretical support and data support for understanding the micro-structural evolution of granite residual soil that is commonly encountered in civil engineering.

        Purpose: This study aims to identify the work-life balance and psychological happiness of screen golf participants and present the direction and role of screen golf as a leisure activity for the post-corona era. Study subjects were 281 screen golfers from Seoul metropolitan area. Methods: For data analysis, SPSS 24.0 program was used with frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. Results: Hypothesis are as follows. First, screen golfer’s work-life balance have affected on psychological satisfaction of happiness. Second, when screen golfer’s they control their work-life balance, the work-family, work-leisure and work-growth balance can increase self-acceptance happiness.

        Genome-wide identification of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) family members in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and their expression in response to low temperature

        Browning of fresh-cut eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) reduces its sensory and nutritional qualities and further influences consumption. Polyphenolic oxidases (PPOs) are key enzymes involved in browning, but the mechanisms that regulate the expression of PPO genes are still unclear. Here, 12 SmPPO genes were identified and phylogenetic analysis clustered these genes into four branches. Protein and cis-regulatory element analyses showed that the SmPPO gene family has a conserved gene structure and diverse functions. Gene expression analysis in different tissues showed that the expression of SmPPO2, SmPPO3, SmPPO6, SmPPO7, and SmPPO10 was higher in the flesh of the browning-sensitive inbred line ‘36’ than in the flesh of the browning-resistant line ‘Fu’. Furthermore, almost all SmPPO genes in ‘36’ were upregulated at 4 °C and 36 °C compared with those in ‘Fu’, and the expression increased earlier after harvest. In addition, SmPPO1, SmPPO6, SmPPO7, and SmPPO10 expression was significantly elevated in ‘36’ after 2 days at 36 °C. These results suggest that SmPPOs are key modulators of eggplant browning and provide candidate genes for further research on the mechanisms regulating fruit browning.

      • Comparison of Hybridization Behavior between Double and Single Strand of Targets and the Application of Asymmetric PCR Targets in cDNA Microarray

        Double stranded targets on the cDNA microarray contain representatives of both the coding and noncoding strands, which will introduce hybridization competition with probes. Here, the effect of double and single strands of targets on the signal intensity and the ratios of Cy5/Cy3 within the same slide were compared. The results show that single stranded targets can increase the hybridization efficiency without changing the Cy5/Cy3 ratio. Based on these results, a new strategy was established by generating cDNA targets with asymmetric PCR, instead of conventional PCR, to increase the sensitivity of the cDNA microarray. Furthermore, the feasibility of this approach was validated. The results indicate that the cDNA microarray system based on asymmetric PCR is more sensitive, with no decrease in the reliability and reproducibility as compared with that based on conventional symmetric PCR.
