To expand the applicability of the RFID, UHF tags for metal plate use were studying. The low-profile, small, normal-mode helical antenna (NMHA) that can be used on metallic plates was developed. The antenna size was very small such as 0.05 wavelengths. Excellent read range was ensured. However, the impedance matching tap structure was not sufficiently small. This paper developed a simple impedance matching structure by replacing the feed point to the end of the NMHA. First of all, the impedance transform characteristics of the feed point shift were shown. Next, some impedance matching structures for IC chips were clarified. It was shown that 0.7㏈d antenna gain was achieved by the 0.05 wavelength size antenna. Moreover, through the measurement results of read ranges, comparable read ranges to the commercial metal proximity type tags could be achieved by the developed NMHA.

The main purpose of this study is to suggest directions of operating exercise programs for elderly at local senior welfare centers as well as the methods to improve their qualities by analyzing the programs themselves and their participants. We analyzed subjects (n=108) who had taken parts in 17 exercise programs out of 68 social education programs for approximately four months. Participating in these programs at the center resulted in somewhat positive outcomes in the elderly, but these programs did not provide sufficient levels of intensity nor plentiful types of exercises to overcome negative effects of aging. Based on this result with the information provided, we drew a conclusion that it is recommended to have resistance and aerobic exercises in equal portions when establishing these exercise programs. In addition, we recommend that systematic consultations and managements of exercise programs be provided to individuals based on their results from the preliminary examinations performed with scientific methods. Moreover, given limitations in spaces, it is needed for instructors to have assistants or to use visual aids to enhance efficiency of their classes, while providing frequent feedbacks on the level of intensity that is appropriate for each individual and additional information regarding their proper dietary plans.

This study was conducted to compare the plant growth and fruit quality of blueberries grown in different soil textures of Korea, in order to utilize the results for stable production and soil improvement. Rabbiteye blueberry cultivars ‘Tifblue’ and ‘Baldwin’ were planted and grown for three years from 2013 in wagner pot(1 2000 a-1) in a greenhouse of Namhae Sub-station, Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science. The plants were grown in four soil textures, sand, sandy loam, loam and silt loam, and nutrient uptake and growth characteristics of plants were investigated. Leaf nitrogen and phosphorus contents of two cultivars grown in different soil textures ranged between 8.6 to 10.5 g kg-1, which was lower than appropriate level for rabbiteye blueberry. However, the contents of potassium, calcium and magnesium in leaves were appropriate levels as 2.29~3.62 g kg-1, 4.46~5.46 g kg-1 and 1.45~2.12 g kg-1, respectively. Nitrogen and phosphate contents in leaves were higher in the two cultivars grown in silt loam soil. There was no significant difference in plant volume and root dry weight among four soil textures in two cultivars. However, dry weight of leaves and branches were highest in loam soil. Fruit production was highest in loam and silt loam soil in two cultivars, showing negative correlation with the amount of sand in soil. However, sugar and acidity showed no correlation with sand content in soil. These results show the limit to the blueberry growth in soil that has no nutrient holding capacity; however, most of Korean soils that have good nutrient holding capacity can produce competitive fruits if the drainage is improved.

Authors and experienced fifteen cases of the pineal tumors during about 5 years from October, 1977 to September, 1982, which were diagnosed with brain C-T scanning. The details of clinical evaluation and follow up of 15 cases of the pineal tumors are presented. The following results were obtained. 1) The age group below age of 20 years in predominant and include 11 cases (73%) of 15 cases, and male is predominantly much than female. 2) On the neurological examination at admission, the RICP signs were showed in 15 cases, Parinaud's syndrome showed in 6 cases, cranial nerve palsy in 8 cases and DI symptom in 5 cases of all 15 cases. 3) In the follow up study, brain CT was more effective than any other conventional neuroradiologic technique. 4) 8 cases of all 15 cases have had normal life in follow up period with minium of 6 months and maximum of 6 months and maximum of 5 years, and one case with mild neurological deficit has been spent life for about 12 months. 5) Of 6 cases died within 2 years, 3 cases had insufficient treatment and 3 cases had sufficient treatment, of whom one had tumor recurrence at primary site and dissemination to spinal epidural space and other two cases were suspected to have clinical dissemination to spinal cord. 6) On the basis of high survival rate in 9 cases of 12 cases who were treated completely, we thought that good survival rate in the patient with pinealoma will be resulted from a series of planned treatment, including early diagnosis, correction of hydrocepalus, surgical intervention and irradiation.

Subdural empyema is a neurosurgical the mortality of which continues to be as high as 40% in mordern reported series. It is also a curable lesion, and the outcome of treatment has been demonstrated to be directly related to the promptness of diagnosis and appropriate surgical drainage. Recently, we have operated upon two cases of intracranial subdural empyema secondary to acute facial furuncle and postoperative craniectomy. Reviewing these two cases and other literatures, we are going to describe about cases, symptoms and signs, and methods of diagnosis and treatment of subdural empyema.

BACKGROUND: Rabbiteye blueberry(Vaccinium ashei) is one of the most widely grown blueberry types in the world, together with Northern and Southern highbush blueberry(Vaccinium corymbosum). Rabbiteye blueberry have higher soil adaptability and fruit productivity but less cold tolerance to low temperature than highbush blueberry. The objective of this study is to investigate freezing tolerance of floral buds and establish a cultivation zone for rabbiteye blueberry cultivars. METHODS AND RESULTS: Bearing branches which have similar thickness and same number of floral buds were collected in the early January at the blueberry germplasm preservation plot located in Namhae Sub-station, National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science in Gyeongsangnamdo. Cold response of bearing branches were investigated by electrolyte leakage and freezing tolerance of floral buds were determined by ovary browning ratio of 50%(LT50). Cultivation zone was established based on mean annualextreme minimum temperature for 30 years, from1981 to2010. The electrolyte leakage of bearing branches in rabbiteye blueberry increased as temperature decreased and was lowest in ‘Brightwell’ but highest in ‘Bluegem’ when they were kept in -5°C. Besides, the electrolyte leakage increased in ‘Brightblue’, ‘Brightwell’, ‘Climax’, ‘Delite’, ‘Gardenblue’, ‘Southland’ and ‘Woodard’ in -20°C. Freezing tolerance(LT50) was lowest in ‘Bluegem’ and ‘Homebell’(-13.3°C), and highest in ‘Tifblue’(-25°C) among different rabbiteye blueberry cultivars. LT50 of ‘Southland’ was from-15.0 to-16.7°C, that of ‘Delite’, ‘Brightwell’,’ Austin’ and ‘Climax’ was -18.3°C, and that of ‘Bluebelle’, ‘Woodard’ and ‘Powderblue’ was -20°C. CONCLUSION: This study indicate that The hardiness zones of rabbiteye blueberry were classified into Six cultivation zones and cultivation zones of most cultivars were the south of Jeollanam-do and Gyeongdangnam-do, except for ‘Tifblue.’
