Full-Body Animation of Human Locomotion in Reduced Gravity Using Physics-Based Control

<P>The proposed physics-based approach can generate stable and robust full-body animation of various gaits under different gravitational conditions. As input, this method takes motion-captured human motions in the Earth’s gravity and builds an inverted-pendulum on cart (IPC) control model, which is analyzed using the motion-captured data. The authors use a pre-estimation model based on the Froude number to predict the desired velocity and stride frequency of a character model in hypogravity and then generate full-body animation using a pendulum trajectory generator, motion planner, and tracking.</P>

<P><B>Background:</B></P><P>Hwangryunhaedoktang (HR) has been traditionally used in oriental medicine as a drug for the treatment of melena, hemoptysis, and apoplexy.</P><P><B>Objective:</B></P><P>We investigated whether HR and lactobacilli-fermented HRs have an inhibitory effect on the production of proinflammatory mediators in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods:</B></P><P>The investigation was focused on whether HR and fermented HRs could inhibit the production of prostaglandin (PG)E<SUB>2,</SUB> nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>We found that HR weakly inhibited various inflammatory mediators induced by LPS. However, fermentation with lactobacilli significantly increased the inhibitory effect of HR on most of the inflammatory mediator expression. Furthermore, fermented HRs exerted a stronger inhibitory effect on MAPKs phosphorylation than that by non-fermented HR.</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>These results suggest that lactobacilli-fermented HRs contains elevated potent anti-inflammatory activity that is mediated by inhibiting MAPKs pathway in macrophages.</P>
Infrared LED-Based Arcade Gun System for Wide Screen

The arcade gun has been a popular game controller in the video game market from the 1970s. The arcade gun, which is used partially in game centers and domestic games, recently is utilized as the interface for the interactive system and tangible media. On the other hand, the existing arcade gun has limits on hardware so it is unsuitable for wide screens. In addition, being platform-dependent, it is inapplicable to various types of content as a single module. This study suggests a correction algorithm that establishes an arcade gun system based on an infrared camera to solve those drawbacks and apply to possibly numerous surroundings.

<P><B>Background:</B></P><P><I>Artemisiae annuae</I> herba (AAH) has been traditionally used as a drug for the treatment of malaria, heat stroke, bacterial infection, and fever in East-Asia. Although AAH has been used for the treatment of inflammation-related symptoms, the underlying mechanism of antiinflammatory activity of AAH is still unknown.</P><P><B>Objective:</B></P><P>We investigated whether AAH have an inhibitory effect on the production of pro-inflammatory mediators in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells.</P><P><B>Materials and Methods:</B></P><P>The investigation was forced on the inhibitory effect of AAH on the production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, nitric oxide (NO), and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) in macrophages. Furthermore, we examined the effect of AAH on the activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) pathways.</P><P><B>Results:</B></P><P>We found that AAH suppresses NO production and TNF-α, IL-6, and iNOS gene expression. Moreover, AAH inhibited the nuclear translocation of p65 and IκBα degradation in NF-κB pathway and decreased the extracellular signal-regulated kinase, p38, c-Jun NH<SUB>2</SUB>-terminal kinase phosphorylation in MAPK signaling pathway.</P><P><B>Conclusions:</B></P><P>Consequently, these results indicate that AAH contains antiinflammatory activity and this effect is derived from the repression on the activation of NF-κB and MAPKs pathways. We first demonstrated that antiinflammatory effect of AAH and its underlying mechanism in macrophage cells.</P>

Real-Time Geometric Correction System for Digital Information onto Deformable Surface

This paper proposes a real-time geometric correction system based on a projector to project digital information onto deformable surface. Markers use to trace lots of corresponding points would spoil the projected image when the projector projects a digital image onto the surface because they leave marks on the surface. In addition, it is difficult to build a real-time geometric correction system since bottlenecks occur through the process of the geometric correction for projecting images. In this paper, we use invisible infrared markers and a vertex shader of GPU using Cg ToolKit of NVIDIA in order to eliminate disadvantage and bottlenecks in the process of markers recognition so that it is possible to project natural correction images in real-time. As a result, this system overlays an interactive virtual texture onto the real paper by using the geometric transformation. Therefore, it is possible to develop variation of AR(Augmented Reality) based on digital contents systems.
