This study aimed to examine the distribution of gastrointestinal parasitic infections in domestic pigs in the Republic of Korea. From May 2020 to October 2021, 364 pig fecal samples were collected from 75 farms in 7 Provinces and microscopically examined. A total of 170 (46.7%) pigs were infected with at least one of the following parasites: Balantioides coli, strongyles, Ascaris suum, Trichuris suis, and coccidia. By parasite species, B. coli, strongyles, A. suum, T. suis, and coccidia oocysts or eggs were detected in 144 (39.6%), 24 (6.6%), 14 (3.8%), 4 (1.1%), and 1 (0.3%) samples, respectively. One hundred fifty-four, 15, and 1 cases showed single, double, and triple infections, respectively. Of the swine fecal samples from 75 farms, 69 specimens (92.0%) were infected with 1 or more parasites. All surveyed farms across the country exhibited a positive rate of over 30%, among which the highest positive rate was 65.0% in Chungcheongnamdo, and Jeollabuk-do was followed by 61.9%. Winter showed a statistically lower prevalence than other seasons. This study showed that gastrointestinal parasites are prevalent in pigs in Korea, although the diversity of parasites is low.

Measurement Level Experimental Test Result of GNSS/IMU Sensors in Commercial Smartphones
Lee, Subin,Ji, Gun-Hoon,Won, Jong-Hoon 항법시스템학회 2020 Journal of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Vol.9 No.3
The performance of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) chipset and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensors embedded in smartphones for location-based services (LBS) is limited due to the economic reasons for their mass production. Therefore, it is necessary to efficiently process the output data of the smartphone's embedded sensors in order to derive the optimum navigation values and, as a previous step, output performance of smartphone embedded sensors needs to be verified. This paper analyzes the navigation performance of such devices by processing the raw measurements data output from smartphones. For this, up-to-dated versions of smartphones provided by Samsung (Galaxy s10e) and Xiaomi (Mi 8) are used in the test experiment to compare their performances and characteristics. The GNSS and IMU data are extracted and saved by using an open market application software (Geo++ RINEX Logger & Mobile MATLAB), and then analyzed in post-processing manner. For GNSS chipset, data is extracted from static environments and verified the position, Carrier-to-Noise (C/N0), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) performance. For IMU sensor, the validity of navigation and various location-based-services is predicted by extracting, storing and analyzing data in static and dynamic environments.

Lee, Min Hee,Sharma, Amit,Chang, Min Jung,Lee, Jinju,Son, Subin,Sessler, Jonathan L.,Kang, Chulhun,Kim, Jong Seung The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Chemical Society reviews Vol.47 No.1

Theranostic systems are receiving ever-increasing attention due to their potential therapeutic utility, imaging enhancement capability, and promise for advancing the field of personalized medicine, particularly as it relates to the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer. In this Tutorial Review, we provide an introduction to the concepts of theranostic drug delivery effected via use of conjugates that are able to target cancer cells selectively, provide cytotoxic chemotherapeutics, and produce readily monitored imaging signals in vitro and in vivo. The underlying design concepts, requiring the synthesis of conjugates composed of imaging reporters, masked chemotherapeutic drugs, cleavable linkers, and cancer targeting ligands, are discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on highlighting the potential benefits of fluorogenic reaction-based targeted systems that are activated for both imaging and therapy by cellular entities, e.g., thiols, reactive oxygen species and enzymes, which are present at relatively elevated levels in tumour environments, physiological characteristics of cancer, e.g., hypoxia and acidic pH. Also discussed are systems activated by an external stimulus, such as light. The work summarized in this Tutorial Review will help define the role fluorogenic reaction-based, cancer-targeting theranostics may have in advancing drug discovery efforts, as well as improving our understanding of cellular uptake and drug release mechanisms.

Abstract

Development of Pt-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is one of the most important tasks for fuel cell commercialization. Various Mn compounds have been proposed as catalysts for ORR, but poor activity and stability necessitate further advances for their practical utilization. In this study, we demonstrate a lithium manganese phosphate-carbon composite (LMP-C) as a highly active and durable electrocatalyst for ORR in alkaline medium. LMP-C, synthesized by the solid-state method, exhibited significantly enhanced electrical conductivity and electrochemical properties, which led to a substantial increase in ORR performance. Comparison between LMP-C and the manganese phosphate-carbon composite, based on various physicochemical characterizations, revealed a high preference for the formation of the Mn3+ state on the surface of LMP-C that resulted in effective charge transfer during oxygen reduction. Moreover, the excellent stability of LMP-C was confirmed by carrying out 3000 cycles of the accelerated durability test, in which no drop in ORR performance was observed.

A Branch and Bound Algorithm for Globally Optimal Photometric Stereo Using Color Image Inputs
Subin Lee,Hyunjung Lee,Yongduek Seo 한국정보기술학회 2010 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.8 No.6
This paper proposes a branch-and-bound(BnB) global optimization algorithm to compute the shape and the albedo of the object surface when the measurements consist of color images. It is difficult to find the global solution for a photometric stereo problem because the error function of surface albedo and normal is highly non-linear and non-convex. The BnB algorithm is developed to enable the efficient global search over a non-convex space. We adopted the BnB algorithm to the photometric stereo problem with multi-channel input. The L2-norm errors are minimized for which three ingredients are devised: 1) an appropriate scheme of representation and sub-division of the search domain, 2) a feasibility problem given a sub-domain, and 3) a solution method to solve the problem. Experimental results of synthetic and real data are also presented to qualify our method. We evaluated the relative performance of the BnB algorithm compared to the Newton's method as local optimization.
Band-based Image and Video Inpainting
Subin Lee,Yongduek Seo 한국정보기술학회 2010 한국정보기술학회논문지 Vol.8 No.4
We propose a novel image inpainting method composed of two parts: band matching and seamless cloning. In band matching, a band enclosing the boundary of a missing region is compared to those from all other parts of the image. The inner area of the minimum difference band is then copied to the missing region. Even though this band matching results in successful inpainting, brightness discontinuity (a seam) may appear between the filled missing region and its neighborhood. We apply seamless-cloning to remove such discontinuity between the two regions. Examples show that this two step approach can provide a very fast and effective image inpainting. However, since this basic method using one patch may not deal with cases where there are abrupt changes of color or brightness along the boundary, we furthermore devise one more step: target sub-division. The band matching and seamless cloning are applied to small sub-areas. This sub-division is done also when the missing region is too large or the user wants to see more candidates to choose a better one. We propose a video inpainting based on homography: We combine sequence images using homography, select the objects to be removed, apply the proposed inpainting and separate the combined images. The inpainting operation is done on the stitched image once. Our algorithm is demonstrated with various experiments using real images.
