Oil supplementation improved growth and diet digestibility in goats and sheep fed fattening diet

        Su Chui Len Candyrine,Mohammad Faseleh Jahromi,Mahdi Ebrahimi,Wei Li Chen,Siamak Rezaei,Yong Meng Goh,Norhani Abdullah,Juan Boo Liang 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.4

Objective: This study evaluated the growth, digestibility and rumen fermentation between goats and sheep fed a fattening diet fortified with linseed oil. Methods: Twelve 3 to 4 months old male goats and sheep were randomly allocated into two dietary treatment groups in a 2 (species)×2 (oil levels) factorial experiment. The treatments were: i) goats fed basal diet, ii) goats fed oil-supplemented diet, iii) sheep fed basal diet, and iv) sheep fed oil-supplemented diet. Each treatment group consisted of six animals. Animals in the basal diet group were fed with 30% alfalfa hay and 70% concentrates at a rate equivalent to 4% of their body weight. For the oil treatment group, linseed oil was added at 4% level (w:w) to the concentrate portion of the basal diet. Growth performance of the animals was determined fortnightly. Digestibility study was conducted during the final week of the feeding trial before the animals were slaughtered to obtain rumen fluid for rumen fermentation characteristics study. Results: Sheep had higher (p<0.01) average daily weight gain (ADG) and better feed conversion ratio (FCR) than goats. Oil supplementation did not affect rumen fermentation in both species and improved ADG by about 29% and FCR by about 18% in both goats and sheep. The above enhancement is consistent with the higher dry matter and energy digestibility (p<0.05), as well as organic matter and neutral detergent fiber digestibility (p<0.01) in animals fed oil- supplemented diet. Sheep had higher total volatile fatty acid production and acetic acid proportion compared to goat. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested that sheep performed better than goats when fed a fattening diet and oil supplementation at the inclusion rate of 4% provides a viable option to significantly enhance growth performance and FCR in fattening sheep and goats.

집파리유충 hemolymph 중신형의 anti-fungal peptides의 분리정제

        Jian-Wei Wu,Li-juan Gu,Xiao-Qing Su,성창근 한국생명과학회 2006 생명과학회지 Vol.16 No.3

To isolate and purify anti-fungal active substances from immunized housefly (Musca domestica), low dose of Candida albicans was injected into the larvae of the housefly to induce the appearance of potent anti-fungal active substances in the hemolymph. This purification work was performed by the routine isolation and purification processes of protein, namely, solid phase extraction (SPE), SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, HPLC purification. Three 4~16 kDa peptides which exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albican and other fungi were isolated from induced hemolymph. Consequently, further anti-fungal activity study showed that these three peptides were different either in molecular weight or in anti-fungal activity. All isolated substances were proved to be active and resistant to high-temperature. It was deduced that these peptides isolated from induced housefly were novel members of the insect defensin family and they were inducible.

      • HER2-enriched Tumors Have the Highest Risk of Local Recurrence in Chinese Patients Treated with Breast Conservation Therapy

        Jia, Wei-Juan,Jia, Hai-Xia,Feng, Hui-Yi,Yang, Ya-Ping,Chen, Kai,Su, Feng-Xi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.1

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recurrence pattern and characteristics of patients based on the 2013 St. Gallen surrogate molecular subtypes after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in Chinese women. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 709 consecutive breast cancer patients undergoing BCS from 1999-2010 at our institution. Five different surrogate subtypes were created using combined expression of the estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2. Locoregional relapse-free survival (LRRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were calculated. Results: The 5-year LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates were 90.5%, 88.2%, and 81.5%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that young age, node-positive disease, and HER2 enrichment were independent prognostic factors in LRRFS patients. There was also an independent prognostic role of lymph node-positive disease in DMFS and DFS patients. Patients with luminal A tumors had the most favorable prognosis, with LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates of 93.2%, 91.5%, and 87.4% at 5 years, respectively. Conversely, HER-2-enriched tumors exhibited the highest rate of locoregional recurrence (20.6%). Conclusion: Surrogate subtypes present with significant differences in RFS, DMFS, and LRRFS. Luminal A tumors have the best prognosis, whereas HER2-enriched tumors have the poorest.

      • Imidazolium Iodide-Doped PEDOT Nanofibers as Conductive Catalysts for Highly Efficient Solid-State Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells Employing Polymer Electrolyte

        Kim, Tea-Yon,Wei, Wei,Lee, Tae Kyung,Kim, Byung Su,Park, Seul Chan,Lee, Sungjin,Suh, Eui Hyun,Jang, Jaeyoung,Bisquert, Juan,Kang, Yong Soo American Chemical Society 2018 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.10 No.3

The electrical conductivity and catalytic activity of nanofibrous poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)s (PEDOT NFs) was improved by redoping with dimethyl imidazolium iodide (DMII) as a charge transfer facilitator. Addition of the new DMII dopant into the PEDOT NFs reduced the concentration of dodecyl sulfate anions (DS-) predoped during the polymerization process and concomitantly enhanced the doping concentration of I- by ion exchange. Redoping with DMII increased the mobility of the PEDOT NFs by up to 18-fold and improved the conductivity due to the enhanced linearization, suppressed aggregation, and improved crystallinity of the PEDOT chains. The catalytic activity was also improved, primarily due to the increase in the compatibility and the effective surface area upon replacement of sticky DS- with the more basic and smaller I- of DMII on the surface of the PEDOT NFs. The charge-transfer resistance across the interface between the poly(ethylene oxide)-based solid polymer electrolyte and PEDOT NF counter electrode (CE) was thus reduced to a large extent, giving an energy conversion efficiency (ECE) of 8.52% for solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs), which is even better than that achieved with Pt CE (8.25%). This is the highest ECE reported for solid-state DSCs with conductive polymer CEs under 1 sun conditions.

Tiny Basic Nickel Carbonate Arrays/Reduced Graphene Oxide Composite for High-Efficiency Supercapacitor Application

        Zhengmin Yu,Xiaoli Su,Denghu Wei,Shu-Juan Yao,Huiyan Ma,Hui Zhao,Xipeng Pu,Wenzhi Li,Jie Wang 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2019 NANO Vol.14 No.4

3D structure composite made of tiny basic nickel carbonate arrays on the surface of reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (G-NiCH) are prepared by the hydrothermal method. The specific surface area of the G-NiCH composites is twice that of single basic nickel carbonate, which is due to the tiny basic nickel carbonate arrays structure wherein each individual nanoneedle is about 20 nm in length and 2 nm in width. The G-NiCH electrodes display high-efficiency electrochemical performance with good specific capacitance (1230 F g -1) and excellent stability (100% capacitance retention after 2000 cycles). This is attributed to the synergistic effect that reduced graphene oxide offer fast electron transmission path and basic nickel carbonate act as high effective active material.

Remarkable impact of amino acids on ginsenoside transformation from fresh ginseng to red ginseng

        Zhi Liu,Xin Wen,Chong-Zhi Wang,Wei Li,Wei-Hua Huang,Juan Xia,Chang-Chun Ruan,Chun-Su Yuan 고려인삼학회 2020 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.44 No.3

Background: Amino acids are one of the major constituents in Panax ginseng, including neutral aminoacid, acidic amino acid, and basic amino acid. However, whether these amino acids play a role in ginsenosideconversion during the steaming process has not yet been elucidated. Methods: In the present study, to elucidate the role of amino acids in ginsenoside transformation fromfresh ginseng to red ginseng, an amino acids impregnation pretreatment was applied during thesteaming process at 120 C. Acidic glutamic acid and basic arginine were used for the acid impregnationtreatment during the root steaming. The ginsenosides contents, pH, browning intensity, and free aminoacids contents in untreated and amino acidetreated P. ginseng samples were determined. Results: After 2 h of steaming, the concentration of less polar ginsenosides in glutamic acidetreatedP. ginseng was significantly higher than that in untreated P. ginseng during the steaming process. However, the less polar ginsenosides in arginine-treated P. ginseng increased slightly. Meanwhile, free aminoacids contents in fresh P. ginseng, glutamic acid-treated P. ginseng, and arginine-treated P. ginsengsignificantly decreased during steaming from 0 to 2h. The pH also decreased in P. ginseng samples at hightemperatures. The pH decrease in red ginseng was closely related to the decrease in basic amino acidslevels during the steaming process. Conclusion: Amino acids can remarkably affect the acidity of P. ginseng sample by altering the pH value. Theywere the main influential factors for the ginsenoside transformation. These results are useful in elucidatingwhy andhowsteaming induces the structural change of ginsenoside in P. ginseng and also provides an effectiveand green approach to regulate the ginsenoside conversion using amino acids during the steaming process.

Aiming at the most enhancing the catalytic performance of simple and cheap cobalt(II) 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (Co TPyP), guided by the nowadays-advanced various technologies, Co TPyP wasanchored onto nanoporous bar with thiol-functionalized silica (npb-SiO2-SH). The resulting npb-SiO2-SCoTPyP catalyst was characterized using various techniques, determining its structure. The total surfacearea ratios (TSAR) of the immobilized cobalt porphyrin to the npb-SiO2-SH, and the catalytic cyclohexaneoxidation reaction conditions were at the same time optimized via Response Surface Methodology(RSM). Compared with those obtained from traditional optimizing method (TOM), on average, RSM couldenhance as high as more than 60% catalyst turnover frequency (TOF) and yields of cyclohexanone andcyclohexanol (KA oil). The anchored 0.05 mg Co TPyP could catalyze the oxidation of 200 mL ofcyclohexane, under not using any solvents and additives, offering 2.5106 1/h of TOF, and 19% of yields. The npb-SiO2-S (20%-0.0438)-Co TPyP catalyst showed better reusability, excellent catalytic
