Gastrointestinal Cancer Incidence in East Azerbaijan, Iran: Update on 5 Year Incidence and Trends
Somi, Mohammad Hossein,Golzari, Mehrad,Farhang, Sara,Naghashi, Shahnaz,Abdollahi, Leila Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.9
Background: A cancer registry program has been established in East Azerbaijan and this has emphasized the importance of cancers of gastrointestinal tract in this region. The aim of the present pathology-based cancer registry report is to renew epidemiologic aspects of gastrointestinal tract cancers and estimate recent trends. Materials and Methods: A survey team reviewed and collected all records of cancer cases from all referral and valid pathology laboratories of East Azerbaijan province during September 2007-2011. Crude rates, age-specific rates of cancer incidence and annual percent change were calculated. Results: The total newly diagnosed cancer cases (n=6,889)comprised 4,341 males (63.0%) and 2,540 females (36.9%). Gastric cancer was the most common GI tract cancer with an ASR (per $10^5$) of 23.1 for males and 7.69 for females. The ASRs for esophageal and colorectal cancers were 9.69 and 11.2 in males and 7.35 and 8.93 in females. Trend analysis showed a significant decline for esophageal cancer and increasing incidence for colorectal cancer in females. Conclusions: The prevalence of gastric cancer is high in East Azerbaijan province of Iran. This pathology based cancer registry showed an ascending trend for colorectal cancer and decreasing trend for esophageal cancer in females during 2007-2011.

We can expect various kinds of paper through the raw materials, the process of making paper(chojibeob). However, as we entered into the era of mechanization and industrialization, we used to use impure materials and clumsy manufacturing methods. Because of this, we have lost our own beauty and technique of Korean tradition. Many of the previous approaches to study paper were mainly about history of paper, process of making paper, raw materials, types of paper, and architectural characteristics of paper. On the other hand, the author demonstrated how different the result of colors(by hanjiyeomsaek) vary depending on the process of making paper(oebal process in traditional korean way vs ssangbal process in traditional japanese way). And we focused on the Characteristics of Korean traditional paper thoroughly. Based on this, we aim to establish the identity of the traditional Korean paper, contribute to the succession and development of Korean traditional culture and contribute to the arts` artistic activities.
The Farmwife and Rural Cosmopolitanism in Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior
( Somi Ahn ) 한국영미문학페미니즘학회 2018 영미문학페미니즘 Vol.26 No.3
Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior (2012) is a contemporary narrative of climate change, which presents the interplay of rurality and cosmopolitanism. The novel describes the ways in which its heroine―a marginalized farmwife―evolves into a cosmopolitan citizen inasmuch as she tries to find a practical solution for climate change upon encountering the sudden arrival of the Monarch butterflies at the mountain right behind her house, which is a by-product of global warming. Over the course of the narrative, the farmwife opens her rural and domestic space to visitors from all over the world, working closely with them. Her change unfolds in ways that territorialize cosmopolitanism within the rural community. In this article, I examine the process of her development through the theoretical lens of rural cosmopolitanism. Ultimately, I argue that the novel prompts the reader to closely look at how one’s habits of everyday life in the countryside can be assigned cosmopolitical meanings in the twenty-first-century world risk society.
Genetic Algorithm for Exam Proctor Schedule
Somying Promcharoen,Wirayut Pana,Pimolorn Tanhan 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
This research was aimed to present the methodology of genetic algorithm for exam proctor schedules used in educational institutes. The purpose of the study is to cut down time for organizing each staff’s proctoring table. Every staff has equal of proctoring during normal and extra workload. It is also able to avoid exam proctoring on weekend and on the staff engaged duration. In the experiment, the 4 parameter means in the method of genetic algorithm including the number of population, the probability of crossover, the probability of mutation and the maximum number of generations have been adjusted to suit the most appropriate mean. It was found that the staff’s proctoring table derived from method of the genetic algorithm can be applied to arrange the lecturers’ exam proctoring tables effectively. The result is the proctoring tables that have the numbers of exam proctoring on the normal and extra workload are equal. It is also able to avoid exam proctoring on weekend and on the staff engaged duration.
Inter-industry Spillover of R&D, Technological Opportunities, and Productivity Growth
Somi Seong 서울대학교 경제연구소 1995 Seoul journal of economics Vol.8 No.1
This paper attempts to examine the empirical significance of the technological opportunities and spillover effects in the relationship between industrial R&D and productivity growth. Estimation results are in favor of the general hypothesis that a given level of investment in knowledge stock will have a greater effect in industries with relatively rich technological opportunities. However, The explicit consideration of the spillover effects does not lead to a significant improvement in estimation results. Analytically, as Scherer(1982) argues, spillover effects should play an important role in explaining output elasticity. but the results of empirical tests in this paper suggest that the information in the spillover effects is embodied in its own R&D.
Synergistic effect of ulipristal acetate and vitamin D with HIFU on uterine leiomyoma
( Somi Oh ),( Ku Heon Kwon ),( Jeonghun Yeom ),( Kyunggon Kim ),( Yong-il Kwon ) 대한산부인과학회 2020 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.106 No.-
Objective: Uterine leiomyoma (UL), are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years and also called uterine fibroids. Recently, combination of ulipristal acetate (UPA) and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) have been applied on UL treatment and cholecalciferol have been also suggested as a synergistic component but no pathway of efficacy was investigated. Herein, comparative proteome approach on leiomyoma cell line model was applied to investigate related pathways for UA treatment based on HIFU. Methods: Uterine leiomyoma cell line (GM10964) was treated with 10uM of ulipristal acetate (UPA) or with 10uM of UPA and 1uM of cholecalciferol(VitD3), respectively. After 24-hour incubation, cell was treated with 200W of HIFU using JC200D with home-made mount on transducer. And quantitative proteome analysis for each cell was performed using high resolution LC-MS platform. Results: Totally 5,286 proteins are identified among groups and gene ontology analysis showed that proteins which increased in HIFU combined with UPA and VitD3 were involved in mitochondrial metabolism, inferring apoptosis for cell death. Conclusion: Comparative proteome analysis revealed that combination of UPA and VitD3 on HIFU treatment for uterine leiomyoma showed the synergistic effect in term of apoptosis caused by mitochondrial metabolism.
