        Plate heat exchanger consists of thin, rectangular, pressed sheet metal plates that are sandwiched between full peripheral gaskets and clamped together in a frame. The frame has a fixed end-cover plate, fitted with the connecting ports, which is bolted together with a movable cover plate to hold the embossed plates in between; the top and bottom carrying bars allow proper alignment of the plate stacks. When compared with the well-established shell and tube heat exchangers, the plate heat exchanger shows a lot of advantages like high NTU values, compactness, low cost, multi duties and reduced fouling etc. Plate heat exchangers are often used to transfer heating or cooling water which is produced in the energy production( district heating or district cooling) facilities to residential areas and industrial parks. The district cooling systems of Middle East are the biggest market of plate heat exchanger, but the technical specifications for cooling system are different from the domestic one. To achieve its specifications, the new plate heat exchanger was developed, and its thermal performance results are introduced in this paper.

      • 치근단 낭종에서 염증세포와 콜레스테롤 결정의 분포양상

        Apical periodontal cysts correlate to dental caries, and derived from the epithelial rests of apical granuloma. The lesions are histologically characterized by infiltrates of monocytes/macrophages, lymphocytes, plasma cells and mast cells. In addition, cholesterol crystals and foam cells are found. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between chronic inflammatory cells, cholesterol crystals and foam cells. The results obtained were as follows : 1. In all apical periodontal cysts, mild to severe number of inflammatory cells could be observed, while foam cells and cholesterol crystals were found in varying number. 2. The cholesterol crystals were not always associated with foam cells. 3. The cholesterol crystals appeared as long narow spaces with pointed tips and cluster formation. 4. The foam cells and choesterol crystals surrounded by lymphocytes, plasma cells, and erythrocytes, hemosiderin pigments and giant cells were observed. 5. Vast number of the cholesterol crystals and foam cells congregated in connective tissue, less frequently crystal mass eroded the epithelial lining and empties the crystal into the cystic cavity. From above the results, it was found that cholesterol crystals and foam cells are characteristic findings and correlated to inflammatory reaction in apical periodontal cyst. It suggested that inflammation closely related to cholesterol crystals and foam cells.

      • 악성림프종 환자에서 복합화학요법으로 유발된 백혈구 감소증에 대한 인형 재조합 과립구 집락형성-촉진인자(rhG-CSF: Neutrogin)의 효과

        Clinical effects of rhG-CSF were investigated in 17 patients receiving chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Patients were given G-CSF 2㎍/㎏/day after 2nd cycle chemotherapy for least 14 consecutive days, and clinical and laboratory results were compared to results of the first cycle. Treatment with G-CSF resulted in increase of mean WBC count(952.9±152.2㎜³vs 1882.4±350.4/㎜³) and neutrophil count(212.9±53.0/㎜³vs 841.5±238.0/㎜³), reduced the duration of leukocytopenic days(12.4±1.3 days vs 5.5±1.0 days, WBC count less than 4000/㎜³) and neutropenic days(4.5±0.9 days vs 2.3±0.7 days, neutrophil count less than 500/㎜³), and reduced the duration of neutropenic fever(5.8±1.1 days vs 0.9±0.5 days). The side effects of G-CSF were not so significant. These results demonstrated that G-CSF is safe and useful for the treatment of neutropenia induced by anticancer chemotherapy of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and reducing the incidence of febrile periods and duration of antibiotic administration.

        응급진료시 여성환자의 소변검체 채취방법

        Background: Urinalysis is a useful laboratory test in the diagnosis of various diseases. In sampling for the urinalysis, there is much concern about contamination that can lead to misdiagnosis in the mid-stream urine sampling method. We conducted this study to determine, in terms of concordance of results and contamination in culture, whether there was any superiority in nod-stream sampling methods with or without disinfection measures compared to the catheterization method. Materials and Methods: We used three kinds of urine sampling methods sequentially, mid-stream non-clean catch, mid-stream clean catch, and catheterization, for ambulatory, non-pregnant, non-men-struating female patients who visited NHIC Ilsan Hospital emergency department during a one-week period in September 2001. Each sample was electrophotometrically analyzed for leukocyte esterase, nitrite, and blood by using a reagent strip and was cultured immediately or after overnight refrigeration. Results: Of the 41 patients, 9 had culture-proven urinary tract infections. The concordance rates(kappa) for nitrite, blood, and leukocyte esterase were 0.875, 0.403, and 0.406 between non-clean catch and catheterized samples and 0.875, 0.481, and 0.560 between clean catch and catheterized samples, respectively. The contamination rate of the non-clean catch, the clean catch, and the catheterized samples were statistically different: 51.2%, 29.3% and 0%, respectively. Conclusion: We found that cleaning with disinfectant was effective for reducing the contamination rate, even though the best urine sampling method for zero contamination was catheterization. We recommend considering cost, patients' comfort, an acceptable threshold for contamination, and the necessity for a culture before choosing a urine sampling method for women who visit the emergency department.

      • ASEA-SKF 래들용 고알루미나 내화재의 용손성향

        ASEA-SKF 래들에 사용된 고알루미나 내화물의 광물 및 화학적 변화를 화학분석, 현미결관찰, X-선회절분석으로 조사하였다. 미사용 벽돌의 주요 광물상은 α-Al₂O₃, mullite, tridymite이었다. 가동면에서 SiO₂결정상이 소실되었으며 mullite와 α-Al₂O₃가 다소 감소하였고 2FeO·SiO₂와 hercynite, FeO, Cr₂O₃상이 생성되었다. 침식율은 강종에 따라 다소간 차이가 있었으며 용강 SF-45와 60분간 반응시켰을때 SK36벽돌의 침식율은 75.9%인 반면에 SK38벽돌의 침식율은 20.47%이었다. 대부분의 용손벽돌에서 가동면으로부터 내부로 감에 따라 열적 및 화학적 스폴링으로 인하여 미세균열이 존재하였다. Mineral and chemical changes of alumina refractories used in ASEA-SKF ladle were examined by chemical analysis, microscopy and X-ray diffraction method. Main minerals in unused high alumina runner bricks were α-Al₂O₃, mullite and tridymite. In working face of high alumina runner bricks, SiO₂phase was not observed, mullite and α-Al₂O₃phases more or less decreased. On the other hand, 2FeO·SiO₂, hercynite, FeO and Cr₂O₃phases were formed. Th corrosion of high alumina runner bricks showed different behavior by using various types of iron melts. Expecially, corrosivites of SK36 bricks and SK38 bricks, which immersed in SF-45 Iron melts for 60min, were 75.9% and 20.47%, respectively. Microcracks in high alumina runner bricks increased from the working face to the inside due to thermal and chemical spalling.

      • 비인두 암종에서 Epstein-Barr virus 감염과 p53 유전자 변이의 관계

        Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a common neoplasm of the head and neck, and commonly found in Southeast Asia. Epstein ­ Barr virus(EBV) is found within the malignant cells in most cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The p53 gene has been implicated as a tumor suppressing gene in many types of human cancers, but the frequency of mutations varies in different cancers. To find out the correlation between EBV infection and p53 mutation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, we evaluated the presence of EBV using EBER ­ 1 in situ hybridization and a mutation of p53, using PCR ­ SSCP analysis and DAN sequencing method. We examined nasopharyngeal specimens from 33 patients, histologicaly consisting of 27 cases of nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma (WHO ­ Ⅱ) and 6 cases of undifferentiated carcinoma (WHO ­ Ⅲ) according to the World Health Organization claasification. EBER1 were detected in 14 of 33 (42.4%) cases. Positive hybridization signals were restricted to the nuclei of tumor cells. Of 14 cases 14 cases, 11 out of 27 (40.7%) cases of WHO ­ Ⅱ, and 3 out 6 (50%) cases of WHO ­ Ⅲ were positive. 33 biopsy specimens were analyzed by PCR ­ SSCP for p53 gene mutations. Our study concentrated on exons 5 through 9 of the p53 gene. However, we did not detect any mobility shifts n exon 5/6, 7 and 8/9 of the p5 gene in comparison to the banding patterns of the normal control. The reliability of the SSCP analysis was confirmed by sequencing five randomly chosen specimens for the exon 5 ­ 9 region. Among five cases, 4 out 5 cases were EBER1 positive and histologially WHO ­ Ⅱ, and 1 out of 5 cases were EBER1 negative and WHO ­ Ⅲ. We detected point mutation in 3 cases were EBER ­ 1 positive and WHO ­ Ⅱ. No alteration of the exon 7 and 8/9 of the p53 sequence was observed. Alteration occurred in 2 out of 3 cases; GCC was replaced by GTC at codon 131, resulting in a change in amino acid sequence from alanine to valine. In one 3 cases, TCC was replaced by TTC at codon 149, resulting in a change from arginine to arginine. Based on the above results, this study shows correlation between the presence of EBV and mutations of the p53 gene, suggesting contributions to malignant transformation in nasopharynx. We need to futher investigate this situation to understand the stepwise progression of nasopharyngeal carcinogenesis.

        응집제 Ceramic-Zeolite type과 황토를 이용한 Microcystis aeruginosa 제거에 관한 연구

        For the proposal of Microcystis aeruginosa control technique by coagulants, removal effects of coagulants were carried out using isolated strain and collected water bloom of M. aeruginosa on Downstream of the Nakdong River. Both of purified and field-collected M. aeruginosa were entirely sedimented by the addition of the coagulant Ceramic-Zeolite type Co 100 (1.5 mg/l) within 24 hr, but Yellow loess (10 mg/l) was less effective for the removal of M. aeruginosa within 24hr. Thus it was concluded that Ceramic-Zeolite type Co 100 was the most effective coagulant.

        To investigate the effect of Shudihuang(熟地黃) aqua-acupuncture at the meridian points BL 23 on the renal function in normal and two kidney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Urine volume, free water clearance rate were significant increased after Shudihuang aqua-acupuncture in normal rats. 2. Urinary excretion on potassium and chloride, glomerular filtration rate were significant decreased after Shudihuang aqua-acupuncture in normal rats. 3. Urine volume, ruinary excretion of electrolytes were significant decreased after Shudihuang aqua-acupuncture in two kindney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats. 4. Free water clearance, glomerular filtration rate were significant increased after Shudihuang aqua-acupuncture in two kidney one clip Goldblatt hypertensive rats.
