<P>Five new tirucallane saponins, paramignyosides A-E (1-5), were isolated from the water fraction of the Paramignya scandens stem and leaves. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence including high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS) and one dimensional (1D)- and 2D-NMR. The effects of isolated compounds on pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated by measuring the production of interleukin (IL)-12 p40, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Paramignyoside C (3) exhibited selective and potent inhibitory effect (IC50=5.030.19??M) on the production of IL-12 p40 comparable to that of the positive control, SB203580 (IC50=5.000.16??M). Further studies are required to confirm efficacy in vivo and the mechanism of anti-inflammatory effects.</P>

High-Resolution Simulations for Vietnam - Methodology and Evaluation of Current Climate
Jack Katzfey,Kim Nguyen,John McGregor,Peter Hoffmann,Suppiah Ramasamy,Hiep Van Nguyen,Mai Van Khiem,Thang Van Nguyen,Kien Ba Truong,Thang Van Vu,Hien Thuan Nguyen,Tran Thuc,Doan Ha Phong,Bang Thanh Ng 한국기상학회 2016 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.52 No.2
To assist the government of Vietnam in its efforts to better understand the impacts of climate change and prioritise its adaptation measures, dynamically downscaled climate change projections were produced across Vietnam. Two Regional Climate Models (RCMs) were used: CSIRO’s variable-resolution Conformal-Cubic Atmospheric Model (CCAM) and the limited-area model Regional Climate Model system version 4.2 (RegCM4.2). First, global CCAM simulations were completed using bias- and variance-corrected sea surface temperatures as well as sea ice concentrations from six Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) global climate models. This approach is different from other downscaling approaches as it does not use any atmospheric fields from the GCMs. The global CCAM simulations were then further downscaled to 10 km using CCAM and to 20 km using RegCM4.2. Evaluations of temperature and precipitation for the current climate (1980-2000) were completed using station data as well as various gridded observational datasets. The RCMs were able to reproduce reasonably well most of the important characteristics of observed spatial patterns and annual cycles of temperature. Average and minimum temperatures were well simulated (biases generally less than 1oC), while maximum temperatures had biases of around 1oC. For precipitation, although the RCMs captured the annual cycle, RegCM4.2 was too dry in Oct.-Nov. (−60% bias), while CCAM was too wet in Dec.- Mar. (130% bias). Both models were too dry in summer and too wet in winter (especially in northern Vietnam). The ability of the ensemble simulations to capture current climate increases confidence in the simulations of future climate.
Factors Affecting Intention to Purchase Green Products in Vietnam
NGUYEN, Thi Kim Chi,NGUYEN, Dat Minh,TRINH, Van Thien,TRAN, Thi Phuong Diu,CAO, Tuan Phong Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.4
The study aims to assess factors affecting intention to purchase green products in Vietnam. The study employs samples from customers who have actually experienced green consumption in Vietnam. The samples were collected by convenient sampling methods. The survey obtained 206 responses with full information. The survey was conducted from October 2019 to January 2020. The measurement scale was a 5-point scale with 1- completely disagree and 5- strongly agree. This study employs factor analysis and structural equation modelling analysis. The results showed that the social and environment sustainability awareness have positive effects on altruism of customers who are interested in green consumption. Altruism also has the same direction on green purchase intention. Besides, the attitude toward buying green and health consciousness affects green purchase intention. At the same time, the altruism and attitude towards buying green products also influence positively on green purchase intention. Besides, the health consciousness positively affects attitude towards buying green products. The results show that the health consciousness has a negative impact on intention to purchase green products. The findings suggest that it is necessary to raise customers' health consciousness, customers' altruism from disseminating knowledge about environmental protection as well as society to enhance the green consumption in Vietnam.
Port System in the Central Vietnam in Champa Era: A View from the Viet -Cham Relation
( Nguyen Van Kim ) 부경대학교 글로벌지역학연구소 2019 Journal of Global and Area Studies(JGA) Vol.3 No.1
In the course of her history, Champa established and maintained maritime commercial and economic relationships with Asian nations and beyond. The Cham people inherited the cultural achievements from earlier cultures and created the essential basis for the development of the Viet people when these communities arrived in and explored the Southern territory. This helped them not only to maintain their traditional culture, but also to integrate into the newly created thought and spirituality. The Viet government did not only operate the old Champa commercial ports but also explored new ports and took the chance for development. They established more relations with Asian and European trading partners; maintained the trading routines between in South - North and West - East directions and did not only carry out the traditional trade, but also reached for the Mercantilism. Those helped the Viet people to claim their role and position in the foreign relation with the area for centuries.
Numerical Study on Unified Seakeeping and Maneuvering of a Russian Trawler in Wind and Waves
Van Minh Nguyen,Thi Thanh Diep Nguyen,Hyeon Kyu Yoon,Young Hun Kim 한국해양공학회 2021 韓國海洋工學會誌 Vol.35 No.3
The maneuvering performance of a ship on the actual sea is very different from that in calm water due to wave-induced motion. Enhancement of a ship’s maneuverability in waves at the design stage is an important way to ensure that the ship navigates safely. This paper focuses on the maneuvering prediction of a Russian trawler in wind and irregular waves. First, a unified seakeeping and maneuvering analysis of a Russian trawler is proposed. The hydrodynamic forces acting on the hull in calm water were estimated using empirical formulas based on a database containing information on several fishing vessels. A simulation of the standard maneuvering of the Russian trawler was conducted in calm water, which was checked using the International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards for ship maneuvering. Second, a unified model of seakeeping and maneuvering that considers the effect of wind and waves is proposed. The wave forces were estimated by a three-dimensional (3D) panel program (ANSYS-AQWA) and used as a database when simulating the ship maneuvering in wind and irregular waves. The wind forces and moments acting on the Russian trawler are estimated using empirical formulas based on a database of wind-tunnel test results. Third, standard maneuvering of a Russian trawler was conducted in various directions under wind and irregular wave conditions. Finally, the influence of wind and wave directions on the drifting distance and drifting angle of the ship as it turns in a circle was found. North wind has a dominant influence on the turning trajectory of the trawler.
Azimuthal angle dependent dielectric function of SnS by ellipsometry
Nguyen Xuan Au,Jung Yong Woo,Kim Young Dong,Van Le Long,Nguyen Hoang Tung,Kim Tae Jung 한국물리학회 2022 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.80 No.1
Since α-SnS has optically strong anisotropic characteristics, a simple method to determine its crystal orientation is strongly needed in device engineering. In this report, by measuring dielectric function ε = ε1 + iε2 of α-SnS in the 1–5 eV spectral region with the full azimuthal angle range, we could find a simple relationship between measured dielectric function values and the orientation of the α-SnS crystal axis. Therefore, during the device manufacturing process, one can use spectroscopic ellipsometry to quickly measure the dielectric response of the α-SnS region of the device to correctly orient the SnS along the preferred direction for the best performance of the device. We also performed the azimuthal angle-dependent analysis of the critical points (CP) analysis, which shows that the positions of CP energies are basically invariant, while their amplitudes and lineshapes strongly depend on the azimuthal angle.
Analysis of the Output Ripple of the DC–DC Boost Charger for Li-Ion Batteries
Van-Sang Nguyen,Van-Long Tran,Woojin Choi,Dae-Wook Kim 전력전자학회 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.1
In the design of battery chargers, limiting the output ripple current according to the manufacturer’s recommendation is important for reliable service and extended battery life. Ripple components can cause internal heating of the battery and thus reduce the service life of the battery. Care must be exerted in the design of the switching converter for the charge application through the accurate estimation of the output current ripple value. This study proposes a method to reduce the output current ripple of the converter and presents a detailed analysis of the output current ripple of the DC?DC boost converter to provide a guideline for the design of the battery charger.
