Fast Interlock System for Machine Protection in PLS-II

We overview the system design of the Pohang Light Source-II (PLS-II), and demonstrate that synchrotron radiation is the cause of a recent incident that damaged the vacuum components. To preclude further incidents, we designed a system that shuts off the beam if such damage is imminent. We used an ANSYS simulation to estimate the appropriate time allowed for this shut-off then. A Fast Interlock System is implemented to accomplish beam shut-off within this time. In bench test, this system shut down the beam within the acceptable time. The installation and the operation of the Fast Interlock System in PLS-II is planned.
First Observation of Ferroelectricity in ∼1 nm Ultrathin Semiconducting BaTiO<sub>3</sub> Films

<P>The requirements of multifunctionality in thin-film systems have led to the discovery of unique physical properties and degrees of freedom, which exist only in film forms. With progress in growth techniques, one can decrease the film thickness to the scale of a few nanometers (∼nm), where its unique physical properties are still pronounced. Among advanced ultrathin film systems, ferroelectrics have generated tremendous interest. As a prototype ferroelectric, the electrical properties of BaTiO<SUB>3</SUB> (BTO) films have been extensively studied, and it has been theoretically predicted that ferroelectricity sustains down to ∼nm thick films. However, efforts toward determining the minimum thickness for ferroelectric films have been hindered by practical issues surrounding large leakage currents. In this study, we used ∼nm thick BTO films, exhibiting <I>semiconducting</I> characteristics, grown on a LaAlO<SUB>3</SUB>/SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB> (LAO/STO) heterostructure. In particular, we utilized two-dimensional electron gas at the LAO/STO heterointerface as the bottom electrode in these capacitor junctions. We demonstrate that the BTO film exhibits ferroelectricity at room temperature, even when it is only ∼2 unit-cells thick, and the total thickness of the capacitor junction can be reduced to less than ∼4 nm. Observation of ferroelectricity in ultrathin <I>semiconducting</I> films and the resulting shrunken capacitor thickness will expand the applicability of ferroelectrics in the next generation of functional devices.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

분산 컴퓨터 시스템의 성능을 향상 시키는 방법중 한가지는 호스트 컴퓨터간의 부하를 균등히 하는 것이다. 부하 분산을 크게 동적 부하 분산과 정적 부하 분산으로 나뉜다. 정적 부하 분산 실험 결과는 분산 컴퓨터 시스템을 설계할 때 자원의 최적 배치, 설계된 시스템의 운영 상황및 성능 예측에 사용할 수 있다. 본 연구는 모든 토폴로지에 대해 정적 부하 분산 실험을 수행할 수 있는 통합된 정적 부하 분산 시스템 구현을 목표로 하며 버스형과 스타형에 대한 알고리즘을 구현한다. 부가적으로 기본적인 큐잉 모델을 실험할 수 있는 기능도 추가한다.

This research deals with biomechanic analysis of steering motion of drivers and application to the configuration design of steering wheels. Upper body motion of a driver is obtained by motion capture of steering motion in a mockup driving seat with a steering system capable of applying external torque due to various driving environment. Combined dynamic model that includes driver's upper body muskuloskeletal system and the steering system is setup. Through inverse dynamic analysis by providing motion data obtained from motion capture and external steering torque, muscle forces in the arms are calculated. EMG and muscle forces are compared to validate the computed results, which showed good correlation. Parameter study of muscle force due to different configurations of steering wheel and driver's posture is performed in order to establish theoretical basis for biomechanic based steering wheel design.

This paper describes an ontology-based intelligent CAD system for injection mold design, which has been developed based on a commercial CAD system called Unigraphics and an ontological framework for representing the implicit design knowledge as well as the explicit based on the extended function behavior-structure (FBS) engineering design model that includes the constraint. The system also provides various convenient solid modeling capabilities for mold design and the design process modeling capability that facilitates mold redesign process.

특허는 일반적으로 적용대상 제품을 지니며, 따라서 특허가 적용대상으로 삼고 있는 제품들을 인지하는 것은 다양한 제품에 대한 발전분석 및 기업간 경쟁분석과 같은 제품관점의 특허지능 시스템 개발을 위한 기반이 될 것이다. 세계 최초의 제품 기반의 특허지능 시스템인 한국과학기술정보연구원의 기술기회발굴 시스템의 일환으로, 본 연구는 특허-제품 대상관계 인지 모형을 제시한다. 본 연구는 특허문서 내에 존재하는 제품명들의 출현정보를 기반으로 제품의 IPC(International Patent Classification) 분포 벡터와 특허의 IPC 분포 벡터를 추출한 후, 제품과 특허의 IPC 분포 벡터 간의 유사도 및 판별규칙을 활용하는 특허-제품 대상관계 인지모형을 제시하고 표본특허들을 활용하여 제시된 모형들의 판별성능을 분석한다. 성능분석 결과, 제품명의 단순출현정보에 기반한 기존 특허-제품 대상관계 인지모형에 비해, 제시된 절차를 통해 개발된 네 가지 모형들의 성능이 획기적으로 높음을 파악하였다. 본 연구는 특허의 대상제품을 인지하는 모형을 최초로 제시했다는 의의를 지니며, 향후 제품수준의 특허지능 시스템에 관한 연구의 기반이 될 것이다. A patent has its intended target products, and thus, identifying target products of patents could become a basis for product-level patent intelligence systems that analyze firm’s competititive intelligence and developmental stages for multiple products. As part of developing technology opportunity discovery system of Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, this study proposes models for patent-product connection recognition. Based on the occurrences of product names in patent text, this study identifies product-IPC distribution vectors and patent-IPC distribution vectors. Then, we define patent-product connection recognition models, using similarities between pairs of patent and product IPC distributions and applying some recognition rules. As a result of performance tests, our proposed models showed a dramatic improvement in recognizing patents’ target products, compared to an existing recognition model. We expect that our approach, as the initial work to computationally recognize patents’ target products, will be a cornerstone for other later product-level patent intelligence systems and studies.
