      • Requirement of AMPK activation for neuronal metabolic-enhancing effects of antidepressant paroxetine

        Reduced glucose metabolism has been implicated as a pathophysiology of depressive disorder. Normalization of such impaired neurometabolism has been related to the therapeutic actions of antidepressant medication. However, the molecular mechanism underlying the neurometabolic actions of antidepressants has not been fully understood. Given that AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a master switch for energy homeostasis, we aimed to determine whether selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor paroxetine enhances energy metabolism by activating AMPK in neuroblastoma cells. We found that paroxetine dose dependently increased mitochondrial biogenesis, which involves the AMPK–peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-&ggr; coactivator-1α pathway. In addition, paroxetine-induced AMPK activation increases glucose uptake and ATP production. These neurometabolic effects of paroxetine were suppressed by cotreatment with compound C (CC), an AMPK inhibitor. These findings suggest a possibility that modulation of the AMPK pathway might be a previously unrecognized mechanism underlying the neurometabolic action of antidepressants. Further study is warranted to examine the region-specific and time-specific effects of AMPK modulation by antidepressants on mood-related behaviors.

        The Effects of Exploitation and Exploration on the Firm Innovation Performance in Emerging Economies

        This study empirically analyzes the effects of exploitation and exploration on the innovation performance of emerging companies. We assumed that R&D expenditures or outsourcing production are positively associated with the level of innovation of the firm. The study conducted an analysis based on World Bank data collected from 2008 to 2009 for 1,555 companies in 11 emerging countries. As a result, firms in many emerging economies with insufficient resources and in low-tech manufacturing industries have shown that exploratory innovation activities, represented by investments in R&D expenditure, are still critical to achieving superior performance in new product production. On the other hand, exploitative activities through outsourcing did not have a significant impact on firms’ innovation performance. Through the results of this analysis, this study suggests that exploratory activities are meaningful in emerging countries to increase their innovation performance.

        A long-term subacute sclerosing panencephalitis survivor treated with intraventricular interferon-alpha for 13 years

        Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare, progressive, and fatal central nervous system disorder resulting from persistent measles virus infection. Long-term data are scarce, with a maximum follow-up period of 10 years. Interferon-alpha (IFN-α) is a protein that exerts its antiviral activity via enhancement of cellular immune response and is reported to be an effective drug for the treatment of SSPE. However, there is currently no consensus regarding the optimal duration of IFN-α therapy. Here, we present a case report of a patient with SSPE treated with long-term intraventricular IFN-α therapy, which facilitated clinical improvement and neurological stabilization without causing serious adverse effects. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the longest follow-up studies investigating a patient with SSPE receiving intraventricular INF-α treatment. Further studies are necessary to validate the benefits and safety of long-term intraventricular IFN-α treatment in patients with SSPE.

        리뷰의 지각된 가짜성에 대한 마케팅적 접근

        소비자가 작성한 온라인 리뷰의 역할이 증가하고 있다. 이와 함께 기업에서 대가를 받고 상품이나 서비스를 직접 경험하지 않고 작성한 가짜리뷰가 등장하였다. 가짜리뷰는 소비자가 제품의 품질을 실제와 다르게 평가하는데 영향을 미치고, 상대 기업의 평판을 훼손할 수 있다. 하지만 가짜리뷰를 탐지하려는 노력에도 불구하고 실제로 가짜리뷰를 찾아서 제거하는 비율은 매우 낮다. 소비자가 리뷰를 읽은 후 가짜리뷰라고 인지하는 것을 ‘리뷰의 지각된 가짜성’이라고 한다. 선행연구에서는 리뷰어의 과거 평점과 리뷰어 전문성이 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였다. 하지만 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성 연구는 아직까지 초기 단계에 있으며, 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 소비자의 행동의도에 미치는 메커니즘을 제시한 연구는 아직 진행되지 않았다. 본 연구는 소비자의 지각된 가짜성이 리뷰 유용성과 방문의도에 미치는 메커니즘을 규명하려는 연구 문제를 화두로 진행되었다. 연구를 통해 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 높을수록 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도에 부정적인 영향을 주고, 낮은 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도는 소비자의 레스토랑 방문의도를 감소시킨다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 또한, 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 레스토랑의 방문의도에 미치는 영향을 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도와 리뷰 유용성이 완전매개함을 보여주었다. 즉, 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 높을수록 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도는 낮아지고, 낮은 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도는 리뷰 유용성을 감소시키며, 이를 통해 레스토랑의 방문의도가 감소하였다. 본 연구는 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 행동의도에 미치는 메커니즘을 규명한 첫 번째 논문으로, 리뷰의 지각된 가짜성이 리뷰 콘텐츠 신뢰도, 리뷰 유용성, 방문의도로 이어지는 직렬다중매개효과를 확인하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. Consumer reviews are becoming significant in consumer’s purchasing decisions. In recent years, fake reviews have appeared that such reviews do not reflect genuine consumer experiences but are rather posted for endorsing products or services after receiving compensations. Fake reviews do not provide an actual representation of the product’s quality which can be misleading to consumers and damage competitor company’s reputations. Despite recent attempts to improve verifications, the detection rate of fake reviews is very low. From a consumer’s perspective, an impression of one’s fakeness perception toward a review is ‘perceived fakeness of reviews.’ Recent research finds the effect of the reviewer’s historical ratings and their expertise on the perceived fakeness of reviews. However, given the very limited perspective fromexisting literature, not much of investigation have been performed on the mechanismof how they would affect the consumer’s behavioral intention. The current study demonstrates the underlying mechanismof the perceived fakeness of reviews on visit intention through online reviewusefulness. The result suggests that the perceived fakeness of reviews decreases reviewcontent credibility, resulting in a negative impact on restaurant visit intention. Moreover, review content credibility and online review usefulness fully mediate the relationship between the perceived fakeness of reviews and restaurant visit intention. Thus, reviews that are perceived as fakeness would lower review content credibility and subsequently decrease online review usefulness, which leads to the negative impact on restaurant visit intention. This study is the first to approach the serial multiple mediation effect of the perceived fakeness of reviews on behavioral intention, addressing the role of reviewcontent credibility and online reviewusefulness.

        블로그 협찬 유형이 후기 영향력에 미치는 효과 : 자기통제력의 조절효과를 중심으로

        기업으로부터 대가를 받은 후 개인 블로그 등에 작성하는 후기를 협찬 추천 후기(이하 협찬 후기)라고 한다. 본 연구는 신뢰도가 일반 후기보다 낮다고 예측되는 협찬 후기의 영향력을 블로그 맥락에서 연구하고, 협찬 후기 영향력을 높일 수 있는 변수를 제안하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 기업의 입장에서 고려할 수 있는 변수로 협찬의 유형을 고찰하였다. 기업의 협찬을 받고 작성된 후기가 어떤 성향을 가진 소비자들에게 더 효과가 있는지 고려해보기 위해 자기통제력의 영향을 검증하였다. 분석 결과, 극명한 차이가 있는 간접적 금전 혜택과 직접적 금전 혜택에 따른 후기영향력의 차이는 발생하지 않았다. 반면, 자기통제력이 높은사람은 협찬 유형에 따른 후기영향력의 유의미한 차이가 없었지만, 자기통제력이 낮은 사람은 간접적 금전 혜택을 받은 후기(직접적 금전 혜택을 받은 후기보다)에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 기존 연구에서의 구전, 또는 온라인 소비자 후기와 관련된 변수들이 아니라 블로그만이 가지고 있는 고유의 특징들에 초점을 맞춰 협찬 후기와 관련하여 재미있고, 의미 있는 결과를 도출했다는 점에서 학문적, 실무적 의의가 있다. Sponsored recommendation posts(sponsored posts), a form of consumer reviews on a platform such as a personal blog, are written by individuals who receive any compensation from sponsoring company. The purpose of this study is to verify the impact of sponsored posts that are less likely to be perceived as trustworthy compared to the regular consumers’ posts and explore how to enhance the review adoption in the context of a blog. Accordingly, the current study focuses on the sponsorship type from a company perspective. To investigate how the influence level of a reviewer affects the review adoption, we examine the role of self-control on the sponsored blog reviews. The finding reveals that the sponsorship type does not affect consumers’ decision-making. However, the indirect-monetary benefits significantly increase the review adoption compared to the direct-monetary benefits for low self-control group, but not for high self-control group who are not influenced by sponsorship type. The current study focuses on the sponsored posts, specifically in the context of the blog, which is differentiated from other forms of online reviews, and the findings are valuable to both academia and practitioners.
